Are they really "complete"??

They all seems to be 0:58 long.. what a shame..
and I can not open "White Queen"..

Is this a general problem or it happened only to me..?

Yes, now I've finished downloading when I try to listen to them as a FLAC in Winamp or converted to WAV they are all only 1 minute long ??

You did not use a shareware that only allow you to extract the first minute of what you have? I know some demos of softwares which are this way...

Any change to make a new torrent with complete files...?

It doesn't matter - the extracts are lossy.

...an LP is useally pretty lossless...analog even! So with the right software you can make a perfect 'lossless' A/D convertion...

So my question was legit: Is it possible for BBCsessions to make a proper, lossless, torrent.
(Extract the LP to wav and than convert to flac)

Now if someone has this release on silver cd's, it's even more easy...!

Mp3s are easy to get, but the lossless versions have really been kept under wraps. I'm still missing most of them.

Many of us - yes.
I have ALL the BBC sessions in EXCELLENT quality, but in mp3, and that format is NOT very popular here.

That's not what BBC sessions wrote...he(she?) wrote that 'something went wrong with the transfer from LP'...
So my POINT is that an LP itself is lossless...and I was just asking if BBC Sessions could extract the LP in lossless flacs (if I can do that...why can't someone else...?)

If there was no alternative (i.e. the lossless recording cannot be tracked down), then absolutely. :)

If the lossless recording is available, then that's the one that should circulate. Why spread an inferior recording when a better one could be spread just as easily?

Then I guess your ears can't pick out the difference... or maybe you don't have high quality equipment to listen to them on. Either way, that's fine. Just don't pick bones with people who do hear it. There *is* a difference. We're all not making it up just to bug others.

Here's the logic behind the FLAC push:

You can convert FLAC to MP3 for personal use, and you lose sound quality. For many people, myself included, the difference in sound quality between a 320kpbs MP3 and a FLAC file is negligible enough that this is an acceptable tradeoff.

You can convert MP3 to FLAC, but you can't restore the data that was lost. Essentially, all you're doing by making an MP3 into a FLAC is making a really, really big MP3 file, complete with the lower sound quality.

If you upload FLAC files, downloaders have a choice between the lower quality and smaller file sizes or the higher quality that requires a second hard drive or *lots* of CDs.

If you upload MP3s, that decision has been taken out of the downloader's hands, and they are stuck with the inferior quality file when a better version may be available.

Follow the logic there?

It would serve all Queen fans if there is a dedicated mp3 site and a dedicated lossless site...you can't have both together at one

In the future the whole issue of flac being larger than mp3 seems silly...

Do not laugh at those who take the effort to presevere lossless recordings...it's pretty hard as it is anyways... Some of us will be thankfull later...

See What A Fool I've Been
Keep Yourself Alive
Liar
Son And Daughter

Spread Your Wings
It's Late
My Melancholy Blues
We Will Rock You  (slow~fast)

I have these ones (sessions 2 and 6) from "From The Beeb To Tokyo" bootleg. The files are lossless without any doubt and sound certainly better than the "As It Began" bootleg.

Sessions 1 and 3 have been officially released on "Queen At The Beeb" and "Queen At The BBC".

Session 5 is available in lossless form in the "As It Began" bootleg (while probably a bit processed). Even if the quality could be better, I don't think a better version of this session circulates. I also have some really crappy mp3s that have circulated for years on the hub but nothing else has appeared yet.

Session 4 is the more problematic:

- Modern Times Rock 'n' Roll is lossless on "As It Began" and I don't think a better version circulates.
- The March Of The Black Queen is the same as the album version.
- Nevermore and White Queen are unfortunately lossy on "As It Began" and I think unfortunately that these are the best versions that circulated.

So most of the BBC sessions tracks are circulating in lossless form. I'm sure we could find better recordings of sessions 4 and 5 but the other sessions have a great sound. Obviously, the most wanted tracks are lossless versions of Nevermore and White Queen (this one is so much better than the Queen II version in my opinion...).

If people want me to share the BBC sessions tracks from the "From the Beeb To Tokyo" bootleg, I'll certainly do this.

Hi,

could you please share your version of Rock'n'Roll ? I have 2 versions - 1 is excellent, but mp3. The other is lossless, but with really crappy sound.

Nevermore and White Queen - I have again mp3s which sound better than my flac files. Could you share you versions ?

Maybe we could with joined forces create a definitive version of the BBC sessions ?

I believe they were lossless. Bob sent them to me some years ago (together with the pre-LP version of the Rainbow March 1974 show on 1 CD, which was still very rare at that point). If my mind serves me well, they were sourced from tapes and not from silvers.

Ahh yes, I've got these somewhere... it's been years since I listened to them.

It's the 1974 session with Bob Harris' commentary - but not all of it.  The songs are there, but some of the commentary is edited out for some reason.  Maybe there was more than one broadcast, and the later one(s) were edited?  But I do have other copies of the songs with the missing commentary, but they're just mp3s.

Why are some collectors still sitting on the best copies of the BBC sessions?  They're not exactly the holy grail.  It's 2009 folks, and nobody likes a hoarder anymore in the information age.  Let's get the material out there for everyone to enjoy.  Plenty has been shared for you this year (namely Boston 76 and even a Sun City 84 soundboard tape), so maybe it's time for some of these Queen collectors to chip in...

Who knows who has what... for example I remember I got the NOTW sessions back in 2000 or something... in MP3 format. We didn't care about FLAC at that time. I'm sure it happened with other sessions and other collectors too.

It's true... same with me.

But every mp3 is sourced from a lossless version, and they can be easily located with enough effort.
Posted by The Real Wizarduser not visiting Queenzone.com
on 10/23/2009 10:39:00 AM
There is at least one person who has the master tape copies (you all know who), but it's pretty unrealistic to get it from him.
My contact who originally sent me the excellent mp3s 10 years ago is out of the business for many years and impossible to get in contact. So it looks like we gotta choose between excellent mp3s and poor lossless files
