was that the "definitive houston" version too? are you sure its the same one? i thought that i had downloaded all the previous versions shared on this site. this one has much better audio quality than the ones  i've heard before.

Thank you for this.  I have this same Houston concert but the recording had many cuts between songs (indicating chapter changes).  It got really annoying.  Plus it is all scratched up, but now I can get a brand new one in better quality!!!!

yeah, post a screen of the menu, does this version have still images between some songs? maybe this is a mix o the nice video version, with that exelent flac audio shared here before...

Hi, I'm not 100% sure. I will try to find both versions and compare them, I've seen this "Definitive Houston" just once when I got it.

Who are those elite collectors? Sometimes they get mentioned but you never see them!

928 certainly ain't one of them.

Until yesterday I was sure I'm an elite collector but then they told me that my last share on this side was lossy althought it was traded to me as lossless.
And "928" never contacted me, so I think I have to think about my status again.

Yes BA '81 is an upgrade to whats (commonly) out there.  All the one's I've seen have in some way been from the QTV version or a not great original 'Canal 9' recording, this is a lower gen than that.

Pete clearly said "pow-wow's PAL VHS" that means the original VHS, copy from the master (I assume) it's PAL
format, no matter the format of the original master tape.

It doesn't matter if the original tape was NTSC, the only important thing here is that pow wow's tape was in PAL, since we cannot have a direct transfer from the original master tape.

I know. In this case it doesn't matter the original master is NTSC.

No need to convert again to NTSC if pow-wow's tape it was in PAL.

The less we convert the bloody tape, the better.

Menu, chapters plus LPCM MONO AUDIO

Hi guys,

I just cam back to this thread after a while.

The video on Steve's PAL tape has visible ghosting and was recorded in the USA so we can assume it was originally NTSC.

BUT - this ghosting is also on the "master" which is in the Queen vaults, as you can see it in every documentary where Houston footage is used, which means that also they have this PAL version.

It clearly depends on what you consider a "master". Was it possible in 1977 to use PAL recording equipment in an NTSC environment ? That's an honest question, I was born in 1981 :)

If no, it's logical to assume that it was taped on a NTSC tape and converted to PAL and this PAL tape is in Queen archives now, and is used for all documentaries. So there should exist also an NTSC tape, or ? But if you check the NTSC documentaries, all are using the PAL source converted to NTSC ! So what's the truth ? I don't know :)

Maybe it was recorded as NTSC, but it looks like  ALL existing copies of this footage (both PAL and NTSC) are coming from various copies of the PAL tape(s).

Sorry for the over-reacting on first page, but I spend a lot of time to re-create original video frames of various footages (removing scan lines, ghosting etc. everywhere where possible) so I'm slightly "sensitive" :) BTW even most of these trading sites / communities strictly forbid sharing re-converted footage. Simply because unless you know what exactly are you doing you can do more damage then you can imagine.

Of course I didn't want in anyway to discourage anybody from downloading this, sorry if I did.

after checking my version -one of the best I have, I have several Houston versions- I've discovered that it has no LPCM sound unlike it's stated on the menu so... I suggest y'all to stick to this version or the best seeded in that matter ;-)

The definitive version it will be a true loseless mono taken from a low gen tape, DVD9 (that's all we have, unless someonee finds a true stereo multitrack source)

The NTSC original. We may never see it if it does exist. The quality of the show that has surfaced in the last two years is light years above the one full of lines that everyone used to have.  Most of these Houston shows are fabulous but we'll never see broadcast quality copies for some reason. The Eagles show and the Aerosmith concert are both brilliantly flawed. (Especially the poor Aerosmith show... someone should have shown the guitar players the parts before they went on!)  And those stills between songs are annoying. Just goes to show how important they are that people are so interested. It would be nice to find out what the sources are for the copies that did leak out.

Thank you for your insight.  It is surely a breath of fresh air, amongst all the "seed, I need torrent" posts from people who don't seem to understand that there is a process by which recordings make their way from the source to collectors and eventually websites like this.

Lol. Wake up soooon!!! The municipality doesn't hold neither the tape nor any contract related to the gig because, even supposing it was a written contract, which it wasn't, it's been more than 30 years and, of course, the municipality has to re-arrange and revamp the archives, and the less important files, such as these, get disposed of - I thought it was just another Brazilian peculiarity, so to speak, but when I was the second time in the U.S and wanted to make some researches and needed to get some documents, I discovered it was exactly the same way.
 
Of course, if one filled such a request to the municipality he'd be screamed out of the place by the civil servants, that's for sure. lol

The point being that me and many other people would like to see Queen release the concert, because nowadays, after the arrival of high-definition tv and surrounding sound, I just don't feel like watching the usual dvds anymore, let alone an old, bad-sounding one. Youtube is great to get an idea of something or have some laughs, but that's it. That's how I feel about watching DVDs nowadays.

Anyway, the problem is: Brian is adamant about not releasing this concert. Many people either talked to him, mailed him or approached Jim and the answer is always the same: they will not release it. The reason given being problems with the audio, especially the piano and the piano mic. 

Personally, I think it's a polite way of saying - I don't want it released, let it go, I have other ideas in mind. 

For me it's a bit pointless, really. There have been here for years versions of this concert being illegaly sold in markets or specialized stores, and those who want to sell it and are, so to speak, professional in the business, do a lot of enhancements in the material, no doubt. 

And that's one of the reasons, I think, why Brian wouldn't like to see it released now - his work is being literally stolen and sold all over the world. It's useless to put an advertisement saying: "Only for personal use". People know that this isn't a magic phrase and I always suppose that there will be people wanting to make gains with it or based on it. One can't be so naive as to think no one will take the material and bootleg it, especially nowadays with all these technologies.

I think Queenzone is great as a way of having fun, listening to different concerts of the band, but I think it should be focused not on trading or collecting, but listening, and making it harder, either by streaming or other technique, for people to keep the material to themselves.

I also want to say I'm the only one who thinks like this in QZ - hahaha - so, really, no need to take it more serious than it is - just a personal view. A personal view which is not, let's say, SHARED by anyone on QZ, so please don't shoot the messenger of his own private message. :-)

If I remember correctly, this DVD is supposed to be a Japanese pressed disc that people suspected came from the PAL that was upped at QZ which I took, extracted the audio, converted to mono wav as per Sir GH's instructions, and upped to QZ again after I doubled the volume.

The suspicions were that the DVD that I upped was converted to NTSC. That would explain the AC3 crisp audio and the quality video, which in my opinion had to have come from the PAL DVD that was upped here first.

Can everyone follow that?

PAL DVD with AC3 audio-very low audio > tgunn-extract audio to wav > delete one channel > double volume >
up to QZ > Japanese download it > convert to NTSC > sell on Ebay> LOL

I will have to check to see if I have the original seed, but I do believe Pittrek said he would do an upgrade, so, if
there is a lossless audio source out there, he could combine it with the video from this, it's the best I've seen.

Ripping a DVD is not the same as ripping to elementary streams or demuxing.

I still have the original seed, but the volume is way too low. It has to be adjusted.So what I can do is extract
the audio to WAV, reduce to MONO, upload the audio to rapidshare, have you download it and increase the volume so it doesn't distort, you then up it to rapidshare, send me the link and I can add it to the video I will
rip and then author.

Yup, now I need instructions on how to delete one channel in goldwave.

I don't remember how I did it last time. One channel has to be deleted, the video is 3.4 GB,
the two channel wav is 1.2 GB, half of it would fit nicely on a DVD5

I can try to help with the first part.

1. Download PGCEdit from e.g. http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PgcDemux
2. In "Input IFO" select the correct IFO file on the DVD
3. In "Output Folder " select a directory on a hard disc drive with enough space
4. Check all boxes except "Create a PGC VOB" and maybe without "Demux video stream" if you don't need the video
5. Click OK
6. Download BeSweet and beLight - http://www.videohelp.com/tools/BeLight and http://www.videohelp.com/tools/BeSweet
7. Run BeLight, "drag and drop", select WAV/PCM as target and click on Start!

Ok, so it sounds like you just deleted one channel and you've got a mono file left over.  Your DVD software probably won't recognize that, as the standard is 16 bit 44khz stereo.  So I'll just duplicate the channel, making a stereo file, but the content itself will remain mono... and I'll normalize the volume.

Indeed... so half the file size will make this all the more easier.  Good then!

Yours is lossless, but it has a hum in the background... listen carefully in headphones.  The one here, although it's not lossless, doesn't have the hum, so it sounds better to my ears.

Lets call it the best available version. I'm so looking forward to it. A truly great show. I really appreciate all the effort everyone is putting into making the best possible copy.

 I think that this contact between the Houston Summit and the performers who appeared there agreeing to be filmed must have been in effect well before 1977. There is a great Who show in circulation from 1976, and a KISS show from their Destroyer tour (1975?), as well as the two later KISS shows from 1977. Journey also has an official DVD release of their appearance there in 1978.
