The sound is mono, on one speaker, quite clear with good bass and small hiss on the background. Realy nice to my ears.
For me it sound like previous release, from Gypsy Eye have some EQ job (more treble, less bass) and/or come from worser tape (so more hiss). This "new tape" have more clear vocal not so distorted, mentioned more bass (wow, do You hear John job with this) and overal sound is just better. In first play maybe sound "muffled" but then it's ok.

"First tape" (tr 1-8) ended with full Son And Daughter with Roger's full ending on drums, then the tape was stoped and record again some second from audience the again stop - GE copy ended with fade out in Son And Daughter.
"Second tape" start when Freddie say "nice" - GE copy start from fade in with "thank You, nice".

Don't know what to think about GSTQ - looks like a taper stoped recorder after Jailhouse Rock but when mentioned that some other song (QSTQ) is played push the record button one more time. But as SirGH mentioned the band start to use this music from early 1975.

Sound like a upgrade but still wonder if this realy come from master. For sure lower generation tape. Any other opinions?

If this is a fake I'm deaf :/

Most likely... but I can't be 100% sure without more 1974 recordings, especially from December.  But it does seem like GSTQ was later added to the Cologne 1974 recording.  It even plays at a different speed.  But of course there's the chance that the taper pressed record once again and it taped at a different speed.  Let's see what his response is, if any...

Do you remember Glasgow '75 recording from master when taper add later some other song(s) to make more complete recording? Maybe this time the same happen and the end.. Let's wait for any response.

Today I recieved a PM from the uploader on Dime in wich he confirmed that he was indeed the taper of this show.
Also, he said that he never taped another a Queen show.

So, has he talked about God Save The Queen ? Is it definitely coming from the same concerts ?

Thanks for the transmission of the information.

I heard back from him too.  He says the whole thing is genuine.

So he must have stopped the recorder, thinking the show was over, but pressed record again once he realized something else was being played... which explains the cut at the beginning of GSTQ.

Thank goodness for places like Dime for the tapers to show up and tell the truth and put the lies of certain collectors to rest.

So should I burn this master and trash the old version? It's shorter (=faster) than the old version; is THIS the correct speed?

Most of the recording plays a bit too fast (minus GSTQ) - but it is all genuine, as the taper confirmed it.

That said, never trash an old copy.  You never know when you might need to reference it for some reason.

Hello everybody. Im new in Queenzone and just wanna say Thank for all these uploads of Queen Bootlegs!
I downloaded this and i had known that concert run a bit too fast.
So i put in the softer Audacity and i would like to know the best way to fix it. Anyone knows?

What the right pitch: (000), (- 0,50)?
What the tempo: - 2%?
Or i just should change all in the speed function (pitch/tempo at the same time)?

Thank u and sorry for my bad english..

Be sure to change both the pitch and speed.  These recordings are from old tapes, so both the speed and pitch are off when the tape runs too slow/fast.

In fact I changed the in the speed funcion (pitch / tempo) at the same time. This correct?

And I downloaded 2 versions of this show available on Queenzone. From torrent posted in 2009 and Mediafire (2007).
That version ( mediafire 2007) seems to be better, sharper, louder than the posted later. Have you noticed this difference?

Indeed.

"That version ( mediafire 2007) seems to be better, sharper, louder than the posted later."

That one is from a bootleg label, Gypsy Eye.  They did hiss reduction, EQ'd it a bit, and added this crackling sound they usually add to their recordings (this bootleg label is notorious for purposely making recordings worse quality).  My vote still goes for the uncut master from 2009.  Nothing beats the master tape from the taper himself.  To my ears it has more depth and punch.

pittrek wrote:

Honestly, not for this one.  It only plays very slightly too fast, so I don't think it really merits the work required.  Give me a recording from LA 12-22-77 and I'll fix the speed 'til the cows come home. :-)

THANKS SIR GH for the link of master tape and explanations!!

So, the version of the link (mediafire 2007), was altered by the label (Gps. Eye)?
Although it has been equalized, has defects (crackling sounds, etc.), right?
This explains why Stone Cold Crazy of this version has little noises on the first solo. It was purposeful?

Despite being a detail, I would like to adjust a little pitch / speed of this concert to finalize the CD. You know the correct settings to enter in Audacity? In numbers.

No problem.  Happy to help !

Sorry, I don't know Audacity.  For simple audio editing, I use GoldWave.

Yes, bootleg companies tend to alter the sound of recordings, but not always.  These things become really obvious when you hear the source tape, but sometimes a sound alteration can be obvious enough (like on most of Gypsy Eye's bootlegs).

I dont understand why they do it, but whatever.

Could you pass some configuration setting GoldWave for this concert, please? I'll try to fix it.

Thanks!

ediemercury wrote:

Because they'd rather keep the better-sounding version for themselves and make money off an inferior copy.

"Could you pass some configuration setting GoldWave for this concert, please? I'll try to fix it."

You can adjust it in units of semitone (in case you're not a musician, it's the distance between C and C sharp, for example).  Slowing it down half a semitone should do it.  Select effects/pitch, make it -1 semitone and fine tune it up 0.5.

Good luck !
Posted by The Real Wizard user not visiting Queenzone.com
on 6/18/2010 1:04:00 PM
Did you mean half semitone? It would be (-0.5) instead of -1?
A semitone below seemed very slow and bass.
-0.5 seemed ideal.
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
THANKS AGAIN! !!
Posted by ediemercury user not visiting Queenzone.com

I meant.. fine tune it 50.  That's a half semitone :-)
Posted by The Real Wizard user not visiting Queenzone.com
on 6/18/2010 10:37:00 PM
Confirming the configuration:
Semitone: (- 0.5)
Fine Tune: 50
Right?
Posted by ediemercury user not visiting Queenzone.com
on 6/22/2010 12:12:00 AM
I'm using an older version of GoldWave (4.26) where you can only adjust the semitone in increments of 1, and fine tune for a partial semitone.  But if your version lets you adjust the semitone with a decimal point, then -0.5 semitone is all you'll need to do.  Feel free to post a sample here once you've finished.
Posted by The Real Wizard user not visiting Queenzone.com

Anyway, these numbers automatically adjust the speed?

I will gladly post some examples here after correcting these songs.

Thank you for the tips!

Indeed, if the function is the same as my version of GoldWave, this should affect both the pitch and the speed.  You'll know for sure if the length of the recording is different once you're done.

Any luck so far?
Posted by The Real Wizard user not visiting Queenzone.com
on 6/28/2010 12:12:00 PM
So far all right, GoldWave 5:56  also affect speed.  : )
My doubt to continue, is that a friend told me that this concert pitch and speed should be adjusted separately.
According the adjustment he pass me, the time of the music dropped in 2 seconds compared to what I was doing in GoldWave.

He also told me that according to his research, for each semitone wrong alters 4% in velocity, so half semitone (-0.50) I should adjust - 2%, this in Audacity that allows you to adjust them separately.
But in GoldWave regulating at the same time is: semitone - 0.50 = speed: -2.847% almost 3%.
I'm a little confused, although I believe when this tape problem occurs, both change simultaneously (pitch / speed) as you taught me.
Despite being a detail is just what I need to know to finish the cd.
So I can post this gig here with that correct speed, if you will.

THANK YOU!
