Hello Everyone,

Time for an upgrade of a concert which was only shared here before incomplete and in MP3-format.
I have found on the "sharing the music" section from http://www.genesis-movement.org/ the following concert in FLAC:

Roger Taylor + John Deacon Live at Crowdray Park on 18-09-1993.
This is one of the last live appearances of John Deacon.

Here are the notes from the original info-file:

September 18th 1993, Midhurst, UK

The real complete Cowdray Ruins charity gig.
Track 1.5, 2.6 & 2.8 were not part of the currently
available recordings.

The sound quality is rather disappointing since it comes
from the same inferior sounding source that gave us the
complete Genesis set before.

2 CDR > WAV > FLAC

Queen (Taylor & Deacon)
1.1 A kind of Magic
1.2 I want to break Free
1.3 We will rock you
1.4 Another one bites the dust #
1.5 These are the days of our lives
1.6 Radio Ga Ga
Genesis (with Taylor on drums)
1.7 Turn it on again
1.8 Hold on my heart
1.9 I can't dance
1.10 Tonight (3x)
1.11 Invisible Touch

Pink Floyd (with Mike Rutherford on bass)
2.1 Run like hell #
2.2 Wish you were here
2.3 Comfortably numb
Eric Clapton
2.4 Stone Free
2.5 Old Love
All Star Cowdray Ruins band
2.6 Ain't that peculiar
2.7 Gimme some lovin'
2.8 Can I get a witness

# = with vocals Paul Young from M&M

Note: A very minor click can be heard on one or two
song transitions. Also one or two cuts can be heard
during track 2.7.

Say w0000000000t!!!

THANK YOU Bokkepoot!! I've been waiting for a FLAC upgrade for like forever! And the complete show to boot! o.o

This really IS the year for Queen fans, by Queen fans!

EDIT: WOW. I'm very impressed. Not only does this recording -not- feature the horrible hiss reduction from the previous bootlegs and is actually IN pitch (instead of sounding like a Film to PAL speedup conversion!), but you can definitely hear John Deacon's bass way more clearly as well as the audience's reactions more clearly!

I do wonder though, other than the newspaper clipping all-stars finale pic and the shot of JD on one of the early '94 Fan Club magazines, have there been any other pictures put out there from the Cowdray '93 show, regardless of artists' sets?

Thanks so much!  Excellent news :D

Quick question - It's probably obvious because you didn't list it but I thought I read that Roger performed with Clapton that night also?

And did John and Roger play in the All Star band finale?

Thanks!

Does anybody know any more details about this? Why did  Roger and John perform as 'Queen', was Brian not involved because of the BTTL tour, were there any interviews with Roger and/or John...?

Brian and Roger weren't getting along at the time. Apparently it was about a negative comment Brian made about The Cross. Also, Roger and John were pressuring Brian to start working on Freddie's final recordings (remember, this was before "Made In Heaven"). Roger and John had started working on them and Brian was not happy with their work and he made that clear.

Don't know what was John's motivation for playing as "Queen", though. Roger even mentioned in an interview that he and John were going on tour, with or without Brian.

I think the fight between Brian and Roger was a bit later. I remember having a bootleg from a show in Cologne in 1994, with an interview with Roger from the same year as a bonustrack and it has Roger making sarcastic comments about Brian's band and solo-material. Awesome stuff :D

Pim, I think we're talking about the same interview. Only it's from Gosport. The date is 1993-07-29. He talks about his next solo project ("Happiness") among other things.

Amazing how the situation was reversed some years later. John left the band and Brian and Roger became good friends again.

Sometimes I think John would end up leaving the Queen, even though the presentation with 5ive and pepsi commercial never happened.

The interview, was it really after Gosport? Or was it known that Gosport would be the last Cross performance ever?

That's how the file was named when I downloaded it. I haven't renamed it, so... don't shoot the messenger :D

I just think it would be strange for Roger to be talking that way about the Cross just after the gig?

The interviewer is Thomas Zeidler - we should ask him.
