For people who can’t wait before the official DVD of the Sheffield concert is released:

Artist: Queen + Paul Rogers
Place: Sheffield, Hallam
date: 09-05-2005
Format: FLAC
Quality: Very Good / Excellent
Comment from taper: “the sound is, I think, even better than Manchester, though there's a bit more crowd noise”

I have downloaded the files in the Queenmp3 hub (for more info: www.thequeenhub.tk) in wav format. After downloading the files, I have converted them to flac files with Flac frontend (on level 8).

Tracklist:
01 Eminem – Loosing yourself
02 Reaching out – Tie your mother down
03 I want to break free
04 Fat bottomed girls
05 Wishing well
06 Another one bites the dust
07 Crazy little thing called love
08 Under pressure
09 Say it’s not true
10 ‘39
11 Love of my life
12 Hammer to fall
13 Feel like making love
14 Let there be drums
15 I’m in love with my car
16 Guitar solo
17 Last horizon
18 These are the days of our lives (incomplete)

For unknown reasons the equipment stopped recording halfway through These are the days of our lives.

Something about the equipment of the taper:
For recording this great concert he has used:
- sony ecm 719 mic (£45 from amazon at the moment usually £90)
- sony MZ N710 minidisc recorder (of about £160)

The concert is recorded on lp2 mode (160 mins stereo on 80 min disc) on automatic record level setting mode

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: THANK YOU TAPER FOR TAPING THE CONCERT AND SHARING IT IN THE QUEENHUB AND FOR YOUR LOYALITY TO LET ME SHARE IT ON QUEENZONE TOO !!!!!!

All the good words about the recorded concert are for you. Absolutely not for me because I introduce it only for you.

have fun everybody with this download!!!!

Thanks!

I was really hoping someone would get this one.
Not only 'cause I wanna hear it, but because it will help fuel the discussions about any possible 'fixes' to the official DVD.

Awsome - thanks again!

Just so we're all clear, this is an mp3 that you've converted to flac?

I don't mind, I just want to know.

Thanks a lot, but I'm just curious why bother with lossless now when minidisc is just as compressed as mp3?

Hang On!
FLAC is a compressed format...

Firstly, standard minidisc compression simply removes all of the inaudible information that is usually present on CDs, ie. it doesn't waste space!

Secondly, most of Sony's new machines record in ATRAC mode, which is a much better compression engine than MP3.

Third, MP3 is ok if you select a high bitrate like 320kb/s.
CD is, I believe, 174kb/s per channel???
(if I'm wrong please tell me)

SO. Bottom line basically though is that minidisc IS better quality than MP3.

take a look at the new ACC compression format: smaller files than MP3, but BETTER sound.

It's called progress....!!

Anyway, the recording is fantastic, so quit whinging.

The bitrate on a standard cd is around 1500kbit/s, which explains why 128kbit mp3s are 1/10 the size of cds...

The older Minidiscs were approximately 140MB in size, so they had a bitrate of approximately 320kbit.
But I was under the impression that the newer HD discs were 1GB in size, which would mean almost 100 minutes of cd quality sound. :/

HELP - how can i play these Flac files? Which player do i need? I have installed Winamp lite & I have the Windows Media Player 9.0
Can't play it on them :(
Do i have to burn them with Nero?
Posted by Smartieuser not visiting Queenzone.com

Smartie, you can download a codec for Winamp:

http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/flac/flac-1.1.0-win.zip?download

or if you want to burn the tracks you must download a FLAC plugin for Nero: http://neroplugins.cd-rw.org/

If you want to compress them to wav, use Flac Frontend: http://members.home.nl/w.speek/flac.htm

Thank you bokkepoot for this concert! :-)

So info that may be useful for you:

An audio CD is digitally recorded at 44100 samples per second, each sample is given a 16 bit resolution. So when multiplying both number we get that each second of music of a (mono) track takes 705600 bits. If you multiply this by 2 (the number of channels in a stereo recording) you get 1411200 bits of information for one second of a stereo music track.
If you divide this by a typical encoding quality use d to create mp3 (128000 bits per second) you get:

1411200:128000 = 11,025

That means that each second of a stereo track in a n audio CD takes, approximately, eleven times more space in your hard disk than the corresponding mp3 (if it has been enconded @ 128kbps.) This compression is achieved at the cost of the attenuation of many of the frequencies that the human ear is not likely to hear. That´s why mp3 encoding is "lossy". Once you made that change you can´t take it back. Flac, on the contrary, is not lossy. When you uncompress a FLAC file, you get a wav file with each and every frequency of the original sound file which was compressed to make the FLAC file.

Well, hope this helps.
Bye!

Roblov.
