One of the best shows of the Magic Tour (1986), in Ex quality; this is the best version around. 100% complete.



Comment: A truly superb upgrade of the Mannheim soundboard recording. Although it has better soundquality than the 'Reigns The World' bootleg, this one has a bit more tape hiss than the previous release. Having said that, this set is still far superior to the others as it not only contains the full show, it is also without any fade in/outs which were so often present on previous releases. This is the definitive version of the show, and it cannot and will not get any better than this. Note that the previous bootleg release with the same title (on Leopard label) has worse quality than this Gypsy Eye re-release.

The lead singer of the band Marillion, Fish, joins the band to sing backing vocals on Tutti Frutti.

PLEASE SEED

This is one of the few Queen bootlegs I listented to from start to finish. My bootleg history is kind of short: Stockholm82, Brussels84, and "Let me show in". That's it.

Well, I really like this one. I haven't listened to it for years and I don't recall very well how it sounded, but I remember there were a lot of jewels in it.

Radio Ga-Ga is really performed as a more structured song. The song increases in drama as it goes on towards the end. There's a lovely peculiarity here: the first chorus is done pretty much the way they do it in other concerts. Low register in "you had your time" and about the same register for the two lines that follow. Freddie sings the first part just fine, and, although a bit tired, of course, he succeeds in adding his condition as another element of drama.

Now, I think it's the second chorus, something very cool happens. "You had your time" is taken at a slightly higher register; "you had your power" a little bit higher; and then, Roger Taylor, in a very inspired, though risky and dangerous move, goes even higher to sing: "...finest hour". You feel that the drama is increasing as the song goes on.

Well, there's been a time I don't listen to it, but I guess Roger Taylor hits a beautiful F4 where he could have delivered a normal C or a D. It seems, indeed, that Roger spoils the harmony because he's the only one you actually listen to in "[fin]est'our". But FREDDIE IS THERE TOO. Oh, come on Yara, Freddie isn't there, I'm not listening to him. Are you a crystal-ball gazer?

No! Freddie is there. Roger pulled him up. You don't listen to Freddie's timbre, not to the harmonized vocals of both, but rather Roger's timbre - but Freddie is there giving consistency and strenght to what Roger is singing. It's very subtle. They are not out of tune by hiting a higher note: they do it just fine. The twist you notice in the voice is what adds drama to the verse.

There's a lot more to say about this version of Radio Ga Ga. But, you know, I'm in a hospital, the food is damn bad and I'm supposed to rest. lol Brian stretches the final note of his solo about the middle of the song in order to allow Freddie more freedom in regard to the dynamic range. He must have thought: well, if the guy wants to get higher, since today he's on fire, I'll let him do it.

Many, MANY THANKS FOR UPLOADING THIS CONCERT. It's one of my favorites.

I know everything I say sounds stupid and nonsense. I'm aware of that. lol But these little things - well, who am I to tell Queen fans what they should appreciate - but these little creative things done on stage, where you have to think quickly and find good solutions to what's being played, are one of Queen's greatest qualities as band, in my humble opinion.

DON'T FORGET TO HEAR THAT CHILLING "THESE ARE THE DAAAAYS IT NEVER RAINS but it poooours...". Very resonant at first, almost gutural, and then his voice fades into a delicate and almost unsure cry. He goes up a little in the end of the verse to give this sense of loneliness and sadness.

It's great.

DON'T LOSE THIS ONE. LISTEN A LOT TO IT FOR ME, I'M STUCK IN HERE. I JUST GOT GET OUT, JUST GOT GET RIGHT OUTTA HERE! LOL

This definitely isn't the Gypsy Eye version. The track times are all different for starters, and it sounds noticeably worse.

That, and the title actually doesn't match, as the Gypsy Eye version's title is "Done Under Pressure In Germany."

These track times don't match the silver, which should be 56:54 and 48:37. Here's the silver, and note that the "medley" is one track:

Most of it is broadcast quality, at least. It may even be from a pre-FM, since it sounds much clearer than the first gen shared here. It sounds about as good as Wembley, with a bit of hiss. It's not complete, but the gaps are filled in with a slightly inferior version - but these bits have that crappy crackling sound that most of the old Gypsy Eye bootlegs have. Fortunately, they didn't ruin the better-sounding part.

However, the first gen shared here sounds better than the inferior part, so ideally a mix could be created using the first gen to fill in the gaps.

Your thoughts? Anyone else?

You need a program like Adobe Audition or GoldWave, and you do cross-fades in and out between sources.

That FLAC file is the same source as the one shared in this topic.

There are just so many versions of this concert on CD and LP (have a look at www.queenonstage.com), many of which I haven't heard... so I really can't tell you which is which until we have samples from each particular version, labelled properly.

Was finally the "Done Under Pressure In Germany" shared here? I do a search but I only find this one and the 1st gen of the FM broadcast.
As said Bob, it could be cool to have finally the definitive version of this great show, like done with sapporo 82 some weeks ago.
