"any chance of a bit more of an explanation of what it is please(higher gen than previously available etc)?"

From what I was told this was encoded right from the master tape and not from the usual Magic At Knebworth LP--> Electric Magic CDs. The original tape is the same, though.

Btw, if anyone wants to sell the pressed Electric Magic 2 CDs, please send me a message.

@ Freddie lives

"encoded from the master tape" - Are you talking about an audience recording on audio tape, or the fan video recording?"

I am talking about the original fan audio recording that was used for the previous bootlegs "Magic At Knebworth" LP and "Electric Magic" CDs. You will notice that the intro is longer, even the end of the last song from the intro tape (Run To You) was kept.

Is this a rip of the Wardour cds, or a rip of the cds that were sent to Wardour? That is a major difference!

I've finished downloading, and it sounds fantastic! They even filled in the gap at the beginning of the impromptu with an inferior source (the video source?). Top notch.

They're done in Japan, in limited quantity... so they're inherently hard to find.

Here in Canada, they occasionally are found at record conventions. Your best bet is to wait for a CDR copy... and they usually come, with a bit of patience. All it takes is for one person to buy it and leak it.

Back to the Knebworth show... can anyone tell me what Freddie says before CLTCL? I can't figure it out for the life of me.

*Original sound
*Perfectly synched audio from the mastertape.

The guitar solo is really outstanding. Brian is really inspired, and it was the first time (and last with Queen) that Brian used the pedal (i don´t know it´s name) with wich he played "Chinese Torture".

So, in this concert you have the birth of "Chinese Torture". Too bad the tour wasn´t extended because i see Brian getting better at his solo.

I also noticed that he didn´t ends the solo like he normally does; hitting two chords. Instead he goes right to "Now i´m Here". Maybe he was having problems with his tuning but the final result is interesting.

And finally, i think that with this Bootleg we finally "see" why Queen said they have the best people working for them. We are listen to what the crowd really listened that day and it´s really incredible how great the sound was in the audience. The balance and the power is really outstanding for 21 years ago in an open air concert like this.

Take care

By the way... I'm still very convinced that this recording, good as it sounds on the master copy, was done from very far away. Listen to the audience reaction on Live Magic (or even the bootleg DVD) from when the band walk on stage. On this recording, the fans react when they hear Brian... assumingly because they're so far away that they can barely see the band! With that in mind, it's amazing that this recording sounds so good. In '86, they surely didn't have speakers a few hundred feet from the stage to accommodate those who were further away, did they?

Hmm, alright. I'll paste what I said on my old website and combine it with some words about the new bootleg:

---------------------

The famous Knebworth Park concert performed before an estimated 125,000 fans is the final Queen concert ever, before Freddie Mercury fell ill. This concert is definitely a must-have. Roger, in particular, is clearly having a blast all the way through. Freddie even says "nice one" after Roger's drum solo at the peak of the impromptu. Freddie sounds pretty strong throughout, and there is a lot of classic banter with the audience. Brian tries out his harmonizer pedal on stage for the first time. He recently commented on his soapbox about how exciting that moment was for him.

This particular recording is a huge upgrade of the old "Electric Magic" version. This new version called "Thank You All" on the Wardour label is copy of the master tape. The treble isn't piercing as it was on the old copy, as the EQ is nearly perfect. The sound is so clear and punchy. It's amazing what difference a few tape generations can make! Wardour has also filled in the few short gaps with an inferior (presumably the video) source.

As for the audience, these fans by the recorder hardly seem like they're into the show at times, so they were almost surely far away from the enthusiastic ones at the front. On Live Magic (and even the bootleg DVD), listen to the fans react to the band walking (or in Freddie's case, running, as seen on the bootleg DVD) onto the stage; it's well before Brian plays a note. The fans on this bootleg seem only to hear Brian, rather than see him, as they cheer after he plays that first D-chord.

I think the whole audience heard Brian before they saw him assuming from the bootleg video. He walked on stage from behind through a lot of smoke and the stage light turned bright the moment he began to play.. Most likely, the audience sound on Live Magic was not the original audience noise but mixed and patched together. I don't know for a fact but I am pretty sure they did have relay towers in Knebworth (is that the correct word?) because otherwise the hand clapping to Radio GaGa would have not worked as it did. I was on a concert without such relay towers and a video screen and the delay of the sound was painful although the stadium was much, much smaller than Knebworth.

If you have ever watched a concert next to a taper you know the looks you get when you start to get excited :-)

Check this out... it's with the original audio source:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nQ8zrkT1NDs

The audience reacts before Brian plays. It's hard to tell who they see, but they see somebody! So I honestly don't think the audience was overdubbed on Live Magic. I really don't think they'd go that far.

I don't know for a fact but I am pretty sure they did have relay towers in Knebworth (is that the correct word?) because otherwise the hand clapping to Radio GaGa would have not worked as it did.

But there could have been a sound delay, and the audio on any of the documentary footage could have been moved back a bit to match the hand-clapping.

Okay, now we're getting too detailed... haha!

If you have ever watched a concert next to a taper you know the looks you get when you start to get excited :-)

I mean complete 114min excellent powerfull audience recording. Is there another except old Lp version ? I don't think so :) This people near mic are crazy and along with loud laughing and enjoing make wonderfull atmosphere - when Queen play, Freddie joking. And audio quality is realy fab I think.

No problem! Here's the Wardour source cross-fading into the inferior (third) source: http://www.mediafire.com/?6mm3mjtyngu

And here's one of the third source alone: http://www.mediafire.com/?2i3hjt0mmmm

Barbara, I have another question. Do you have the Wardour silvers, or did you receive a copy of the silvers? Right now, I have my lineage as such:

"Thank You All" (Wardour) silvers (x) > WAV > FLAC level 8

But it could be this, if you received a direct copy of the silvers:

"Thank You All" (Wardour) silvers > CDR (0) > WAV > FLAC level 8

Or this, if you have the silvers:

"Thank You All" (Wardour) silvers (0) > WAV > FLAC level 8

Please let me know!

What a quality! My God........ This recording really makes you think what a great live sound Queen approached!... Increadiable... Maybe I would seem funny but they sound like you are in the studio!!! Even now days, big famous bands cannot achieve this sound. I've been to two Paul McCartney open air concerts on Squares in 2003-04 - Moscow and St Petersburg - and the sound was just good.

Listening in headphones it sounds like having a little distortion.

---

Nice how people are talking about the sound - Crazy Little Thing, after 5:30.

Sorry... I clearly didn't read what you actually asked about! The link I posted was Brian's explanation about why this show will never be officially released.

I searched his site for it, but unfortunately I couldn't find it.
