Is there anyway of knowing if you have the original released versions of the albums on vinyl. Ive recently bought A night at the opera and a day at the races on vinyl and am wondering if they are the versions released in 1975 and 1976. They both fold out and display the lyrics.
The inner sleave of ANATO contains the live photos that are contained in the CD release and the inner sleave of ADATR is hard thick mustard cardboard with four individual photos. ANATO has electra writen on it and ADATR had EMI. Im just wondering whether for rereleases they got rid of the fold open lyrics and photos on the inner sleave and it would indicate these are original relases.

ELEKTRA was Queen's US/Canada label.

One way I know is that I have all the albums thru Innuendo with a "promotional copy" stamp on them. Some of my LPs that don't have the stamp are identical, some are missing inserts or the actual quality of the cardboard is cheaper denoting a re-issue.

EMI (in the UK produced vinyl copies well into the 90's, the only way I know of to tell the age of the early copies from the later ones, is that the first LP to come with a barcode was The Works. So if your ANATO and ADATR have barcodes, they were made on or after 1984.

Mr Prosser beat me to it - the other way (although it doesn't help for the two you mention), is that the first two albums didn't originally have the crest copyrighted.

Moving to the vinyl, although the scratchings in the runoff grooves can be tricky to decipher, second pressings are usually identified as such SOMEHOW - although the somehow can vary wildly.
