Hey Everyone,
I'm now beginning to learn the ins and outs of repairing, and the electronic components of guitars and amps. My question is pertaining to guitar-building.

Does anyone know where I can buy the paint that Brian has on the Red Special??

Where I can find a guide on painting guitars?

How to get, or build a chambered body of a Red Special?

I appreciate the help!! Peace everyone...

I plan on constructing my own guitar towards the end of the year...I'd like to build my own replica of the "old lady." I'd settle for learning how to buy, or how to properly make a chambered body. So I can at least get the same "sound" as Brian. Thanks again!!!

Peace...

There used to be an excellent website called JackFunk which was dedicated to the Red Special. Its no more but somebody managed to archive it and provided it on here a while ago. I've reuploaded it here and hope it of some use for you.

Good luck in your project and don't forget to post photos of the work in progress and finished product!

Ask Sherwin Williams.

Seriously? You have it painted by a pro with pro equipment. Paint and laminate seriously affects the tone of your wood. It's not something that should be "experimented" with.

Carvin makes some really nice guitar kits if you're wanting to learn how to make your own guitar. I would think making a Red Special would be something you would embark on later.

I'm with Microwave, but if you want to do it yourself check out the brianmayworld board. The anoraks there are very knowledgeable.

Dustin (jackfunk) had some real great info, but some of it is not as accurate. But it was the best info on the net for quite some time.

Actually, the first guitar that I'll be making will be a "Frankenstein." Basically I'm gonna hit pawn shops and mom and pop music shops and buy 3 or 4 crappy guitars...and I'm gonna take the best of each and make one. If I have to...I might spend money on pickups, switches, a nut, and or a bridge...but that's only if I have to.

I'm looking around for information on the Red Special so I can piece by piece, start amassing the parts I need...
