Being Brian a person who practice the perfectionism, and try to do his best in each song he wrote, the fact that WWRY is his "most famous song" is quite an irony for him.

We all loved WWRY in some period of our lives, that´s logical, but...........

No one knew who Brian May was.

I don't think "We Will Rock You" is the best he ever wrote - but I don't think you can argue that the song has reached a lot of people (at least, in an animal instincts kind of way) - which is more than you can say for most musicians.

I doubt Freddie thought "Bohemian Rhapsody" or "We are the Champions" were the best things HE ever wrote. But sometimes it's not the supposed quality of the song - but how it touches the masses.

I'd like to see this survey that you are referring too, where's the link? I find it preposterious that Freddie would be remembered more for what he died of than the contribution he made to music. What's the purpose of giving this info anyhow? What's the point? As far as WWRY is concerned yeah its reached alot of people but that's only because the public has had it rammed down there fuckin throats for the last 30 years at every single sporting event. It's overkill if anything else.

We Will Rock you is an awesome song! Not his best necessarily but it's easy to see why it was so huge. Just about his best guitar solo. I actually think he'd like to be remembered for his heavier numbers like Brighton Rock and tie Your Mother Down. He always did like the grungy stuff. In fact speaking o which, did the likes of Soundgarden and early Nirvana remind any one else of Queen's first album. All those slow heavy, sludgy Sabbath-like numbers like Song and Daughter.

But I digress...

P.S. I think changing your hairstyle every year is just fine (even if actually Freddie rally only had two hairstyles - plus an in between circa NOTW)

O, gosh... I'm guess I should have been more specific, I guess there's been misunderstanding - all over this thread.

I said "unscientific" for a reason. Who Freddie was did come into question several times while I was in school, and that IS what people connected him to. No, I don't like it, it's not fair - but that wasn't the point.

The point was that it's easy to be elitist and say Brian "should have" been remembered for his ballads or whatever one deems "better" - but the truth is, life just doesn't work like that. And the fact that he DID get something so popular probably has driven some people to find out what else he and Queen did.

I just don't see why, in a thread that was intended to be light, one has to come in and complain about the fact that more people know "We Will Rock You" than "'39" or whatever one considers to be more masterful.

Brian got something into the public consciousness. That is a lot more than some can say. Some people have stopped using "We Will Rock You" - so clearly, the people have a choice in the matter.

Well those "some people" sure aren't over here in the US, its still just as played out as ever

Correct. June 16th, 1989. Now we have Green Day. Oh, yay!
Boy, you hit the nail on the head there. And if you really like the way radio is handled you need to get HD radio, now. So the crappy music sounds like you're there in the studio, wondering if anybody thought this song out before getting here.

Throughout my marching band career in high school I've gone to countless football and basketball games. At just about all of them I could hear the audience screaming 'We Will Rock You' and rocking the hell out of the stadium/arena seats. It's simply become a tradition for sports to chant 'We Will Rock You' in a frenzy. I think it's absolutely terrific.

I feel it's safe to say that 'We Will Rock You' is the one Queen song that will never die. I'm sure as hell Brian May is proud of that, even if it's his simplest composition.

We Will Rock you is probably without a doubt the #1 sports song, and its amazing how no one has topped it yet. its stood the test of 30 years...thats not bad.

Hey now! I'm almost 16 and me and most of the people I know know Freddie for more than that! and most people I know who know who Queen are in a general sort of way don't even know he's dead let alone what he died from so I think thats really biased!
On the other hand I do agree that Brian is remembered for WWRY because I can turn to almost any person and if they don't know who Queen was they will know WWRY, (I can then inform them that Brian wrote it lol)
