I have tried googling, and, searching this forum, only to come up empty.
I would like to know the story behind these songs. Both are so beautiful(and, I often find tribute songs lacking), and, make me cry like a baby. Wondering who wrote them(I am assuming Roger, and, Brian, respectively, but...did John contribute?), when, precisely, they were written...whatever info is out there. Can someone point me in the right direction?

The former is a Roger solo-composition, him saying goodbye to the good friend he lost.

No One But You is mainly a Brian-effort at the same thing.

Thank you. With Queen's habit of recycling songs and whatnot, and, with some of their songs being remarkably appropriate for things they actually had little to do with, I wasn't certain if these were old songs retrieved from somewhere, or, if they were actually written about Freddie. Such truly beautiful songs, it is hard to imagine that they weren't given more attention by the music media.

The story I've heard is that Brian's impetus for writing NOBY was the death of Princess Diana, but it was received as a Freddie tribute, and Brian ultimately accepted it as one.

Perhaps, some questions are better left unanswered. Just got back from Youtube, and, am a little bummed that my suspicions were confirmed.
I WANTED Brian to have written that ABOUT Freddie. I am such a romatic fool. Here, I thought I was getting a bit jaded...

It was written about Freddie - long before Diana died. It sat unfinished for quite sometime until Roger listened to it and convinced Brian and John that they should record it as a Queen track. It was never about Diana. It just so happened that it came out around the time Diana died.

Just listening to the lyrics alone should be enough to tell you that it is about Freddie.

Brian was asked about the song during a TV interview in 1997.

------
Interviewer: But you got back together in the studio to record "No One But You", which is the one you wrote.

Brian: We did, that's right.

Interviewer: Which you wrote about two years ago.

Brian: I did. It was going to be for the solo album, but the chaps liked it a lot and thought it was kind of an important thing

Interviewer: Is it about Freddie?

Brian: Yes I really wrote it about Freddie, but as you deal with a song, of course, it expands in it's meaning, I suppose, and we've lost a lot of people too young, recently, you know with Princess Diana and very sad to hear about Michael Hutchence the other day. So it's something which is in your mind a lot.

Well, I certainly WANTED to believe that, because, you are so right about it SOUNDING as if it were about Freddie. Perhaps I had better watch the youtube thing again...

Oh, THANK you for posting this!!! Honestly, I feel much better, now. For some reason, I have become very emotionally attached to that song, and, knowing that I was WRONG in my suspicions only helps me to just go ahead and lovethedamnedsongalready!! It is a beautiful song, sung BEAUTIFULLY by Brian(don't shoot me, but, he reminds me a bit of Paul)-the romance survives!

You don't need to watch it again. It's about Fred.
