From BM.com

>>Eagle Rock Entertainment has revealed that they have delayed the upcoming high-def release of 'Queen Rock Montreal' two weeks to December 4th. Production issues was the reason given for the delay, but fans will be happy to know that this release is packed with additional content not announced previously.

In addition to the newly remastered versions of the Montreal and Live Aid concerts, the release will also include an audio commentary with Brian May and Roger Taylor. Additionally, the release will have rehearsal footage for Live Aid, a newly released band interview, media coverage of the historic event, and a "Before & After" video restoration comparison.

Assume, then that the HD release is the ONLY DVD version that is affected by the delay and that also features the additional content?

Audio commentary, yes that's something we're definitely waiting for.

Brian: "Here you have it folks. The new release of Montreal 1981. It was my idea. Oh yes, I did it. Brilliant. I even can't find a fucking word to describe my brilliance. Ho-oh, I rule. You don't."

Lovely.

Well according to all the press releases so far, the normal standard definition release has exactly the same features as the HD version, so as far as I can make out there isn't anything additional on the HD/Blu Ray versions

So... The high-def releases are being delayed beceuse they are now adding the commentary (avalable on the single disc standard dvd) and the Live Aid bits (available on the Rock Montreal+Live Aid version of the regular dvd) in the last minute.

Are the people at QP really so incompetent, extortionate, and out of touch with the real world that they were going to originally put the HD-DVD versions out with absolutely no extras, and practically force their fans to buy both the regular dvds as well as these versions?

Am I supposed to believe that Eagle is solely responsible for deciding the content of these discs? Did it really take them several months to realise that that their customers would have been really pissed of to see them being ripped off in such a fashion?

I really thought that QP couldn't lower my expectations any more, but they have done it yet again!

If you read the press release is doesn't say they are adding to it, just production issues caused the delay, which could just be the shipping container wasn't booked or the production line was stopped for maintenance or any one of a hundred different other reasons. It has no mention of 'adding new content' at all

You're right, it doesn't spesifically say what has caused the delay.

It does however go to great lengths to say that "fans will be happy to know that this release is packed with additional content not announced previously" as if that's supposed to be some sort of an explanation or a great compensation for the delay... And all the additions Brian goes to mention have already been mentioned on the regular dvd.

So what are the fans supposed to be happy about again?

Tero, re:

Absolutely - the implication from that sentence is that it is an excuse for the delay and that this material is available on **this** release. Why mention it if the extras are available as standard on this **title** regardless of it's format?

Hopefully the CD version will rove to be that much better, just as with the MK and Wembley releases.

I don't agree, I think that just because they are saying here items were previously unreleased doesn't mean it is being added now. I think it's just saying, hey sorry for the delay but it will be worth the wait...

maybe wrong but I can't see that they would have ever released this without all the intended content.

Togg,

Absolutely see where you're coming from, but the question has to be; Why issue such an ambiguous press release?

Surely just saying "Sorry - the DVD set has been delayed by a production error." would have been enough.......?

No. It says not previously announced, not "not previously released". It is saying there will be more material on it in addition to what's already been announced - Montreal, Live Aid & rehearsals, TV Special thing etc.

I guess we will never know the truth, but if I where delaying the release because of adding new content I would be making a big deal about what I was adding not leave it as ambiguous as that.

I agree with Togg. Nothing about adding anything, only to say that it's delayed, but hey, look what's worth waiting for!

What's going on at QZ lately? I've noticed this last couple of days, a lot of people saying very negative things. Very strange.

Adam.

I agree...

Why not say: ok we have a small delay but we also get something extra back for it.

And how can you slam something you haven't seen before.

Queen Productions can never do any good here, even if they release Houston 77 with unseen soundcheck and unseen interviews backstage with hidden party footage downtown Houston for example.

Try reading these two sentences back to back, just like they were written by Brian:

"fans will be happy to know that this release is packed with additional content not announced previously.

In addition to the newly remastered versions of the Montreal and Live Aid concerts, the release will also include"

Does that really NOT suggest to you that these contents listed here IS that previously unannounced contents?

What's you reaction when you read a sticker on an album that says:

Brand New Content!
Four Extra Tracks!

Does it not suggest to you that the brand new content is that four tracks mentioned one line later?

You really must be naive if you think there is going to be anything else on the hd dvd besides the items Brian listed. That's it. That's all there's going to be, and that's exactly what's on the set of 2 regular dvds as well. Prepare to be disappointed. :P

"but fans will be happy to know that this release is packed with additional content not announced previously".

This statement was issued by Eagle Rock and not Brian, I am not sure what Eagle had announced about this release to date, but it is not unreasonable to assume they had simply not announced what was included prior to this release.

I think that at the end of the day there is simply too much being read into a simple statement, I really can't see this is anything much to get excited about as I am confident it is just a delay in production and nothing more.

I'm sorry this maybe a stupid question, but does this mean that only the HI-DEF versions of rock montreal (&Live aid) are delayed ? So that we can still buy the non HI-DEF versions, the still remastered, but normal version on DVD (rock monreal & Live Aid)on the 29th octobre ? Or does this mean that all releases of this concert are delayed ?

It is only the high-def releases being delayed, yes...which I suspect to be delays in production line waiting times, especially with Blu-ray and Christmas coming up....it would make sense to have both the HD DVD and Blu-ray releases come out at the same time.
ALTHOUGH, I would rather hope it to be a production issue itself, like say, maybe adding a *lossless* audio track (assuming they're otherwise only going with the lossy DTS 96/24 tracks)....but we'll see when the time comes
