Just listened to the commentary and I have to say I was a little disapointed. When the guys did speak, they had little to say. "It was really hot under those lights" and "white lights are the best" statements don't make for exciting listening. Guess I was expecting something interesting. Some insight perhaps.
Still, can't wait for my HD copy to arrive tomorrow.

What did you expect?

Queen have performed many times. So how are you to expect them to recollect most if not everything from Montreal? I can understand your dissapointment, but gosh are we getting picky!

I have a question about the Montreal DVD and I'm sorry if it has already been asked. I have noticed that there are 2 versions of the DVD available, one that contains Live Aid and the other one is just the Montreal concert. The one that has Live Aid, is it the entire Live Aid or just the Queen performance? The packaging doesn't say and I was just wondering. Thanks guys.

Hehe. It's just Queen's performance followed by Freddie & Brian, plus a television segment with rehearsal footage and interviews. The entire Live Aid wouldn't fit on a single disc, or a double disc. There is a 4 disc set with *most* of Live Aid available, but even there, it's incomplete due to musicians not allowing their performances to be released as well as lost tapes.

From the original poster's description, I'd say there's disappointment because this new version was promoted as including audio commentary as a major feature, but that audio commentary is nothing more than idol chatter. If that's true, I think the disappointment is justified.

Probably a little picky because I am buying the disc. I think Brian and Roger are aware that people buying the disc are largly Queen fans, and want to hear something new, profound, interesting etc about Queen in general, not just Montreal.
Not a big deal, but considering what was done, I feel I wasted 90 mins of my time.

Well, Live Aid, but other than that, no. I really wasn't looking for anything further. In over 20 years of being a fan, interviews and chit-chat are things I've probably seen already.

Plus, exactly what earth-shattering material are we supposed to be getting during the commentary of a concert?

BRIAN - "Here, I step on my foot pedal and hit a power G chord. Roger completely misses '1'."

ROGER - "Yeah, I lost a stick right there. If you freeze frame, you can see it"

Microwave, you seem to be taking this rather personally. Sorry my opinion does not jive with yours, but it just my opinion. I have heard many audio commentaries that were very good, others that were not so.
Thats all.

Relax Coops. Seems you were the one that took my post personally. I do not hold you responsible in any way for the contents on the DVD and apologize for not claiming your greatness prior to stating my view!

Still, it doesn't change the fact that I think I got my money's worth and bought it for what was on the cover - Queen Rock Montreal, not Queen interviewed or Queen backstage or Queen sound checks.

It seems to me that nobody is allowed to have a negative opinion about anything without these 'defenders' telling them off. If everybody just sung the praises of everything Queen Productions releases it would get rather boring around here wouldn't it?

'Discussion' often involves differing opinions and some of us need to learn to accept those of other people without getting angry. You can point out something someone may have missed, you know, argue a good point, but there's no need to get personally offended or take the defensive. Allow people to express their opinions, good or bad.

And for the record, my opinion is that the commentary was rather boring. But in their defense (lol) it's hard to get a decent commentary anywhere these days. They've become too common.

If you want an example of a good commentary, listen to the one for the film "This is England". Best I've heard in months! Excellent film too.

Oh, and if you enjoy bad commentaries, check out ANY by Rob Reiner.

I agree with you. They sounded like they rather be elsewhere.
