Well well! Our dear friends of the police, here in Holland, want more money. So they decided to strike.... at the moment that the football match Ajax - PSV was scheduled. Result: the match couldn't be played.

Of course that was a good way for the policemen to gain attention. But for Ajax this might have negative impact.

The Dutch Football Organization has a rule that says that a match has to be rescheduled within eight weeks. But the problem is that the schedule is already full the next eight weeks. There is one available date, Wednesday 30 January. But Amsterdam doesn't allow Ajax to play top matches in midweek.

Amsterdam is trying to change their laws to make it possible the have the match played at that Wednesday. Otherwise PSV will win the math with 0-1 without playing. That doesn't sound fair to me but rules are rules.

I got to try al little more,

Are you aware that there are worse things to worry about during a police strike than a football match? :P

True.. It’s 'just' football. But this can cost Ajax the championship. I don't want to know what the reaction of the fans will be, if this match is going to be crucial. I think the police is going to have a though time then. Beside that… millions of euros are involved with this.

You know what? Fuck labor unions. Workers should be guaranteed they won't have decreases in pay or benefits, but beyond that, these whining fucktards need to *individually* find other work if they don't like it. Strikes are bullshit. They destroy families, communities, and cause Letterman reruns.

Maybe all striking motherfuckers should be replaced with Chinese folks who manufacture everything on the fucking planet anyway.

And I know the Chinese comedy writers would write some funny shit. Just having the Rs and Ls mixed up would result in non-stop guffaws.

Jeffrey, I have to agree that sometimes I find strikes stupid. When the employer isn't disrespecting the agreement they have with the workers, the workers should just shut the feck up and do what they're paid for. If they're unhappy, they should look for another job.

But I'm 100% pro-strike when the agreement is being disrespected - for example, if the employer promises a 5% raise every year, but he doesn't actually do it. I dunno if that's the case being discussed here.

I tend to be against strikes by essential services, though.

In America, essential services may "strike" but they don't stop answering their calls. Now maybe a lot of you aren't aware of what Collective Bargaining is, but it is essential in all business.

It does not give an employer the ability to screw his employees, as you are implying. It allows the EMPLOYEES to elect someone to negotiate their employment. I think that's a pretty cool thing for employees, don't you?

If a company is losing money but promised a 5% raise every year, that's just stupid. I think the primary objective is to stay in business. That would circumvent that.

Look at the US Police and Fire departments. These people are not making a lot of money and only make as much as the city budget approves. They aren't milking the system. City government does that and we voters decide where the money should go.

You see, those officials are offered "gifts" from special interest groups so that those officials will endorse their interests. Huge marketing campaigns follow, and then come election time, depending on how much you read or saw on TV, you and the city decide where to spend the money. Not the employers or essential services.

Meh. I was just in a bad mood this morning. I've had so much cybersex lately I guess I was feeling guilty, and bad about myself so I spewed some thoughts without really thinking. I don't know anything.

Plus I've been a little annoyed that the writer's strike here came just as I finally got digital TV. Thank God Judge Judy doesn't require writers, that's all I can say.

Good luck with your lawless society there in the land of the Dutch though.
