They are closing it, apparantly, because they dont think digitial radio is viable any more. They are also closing a station called The Jazz. However, if you look at Gcap media's other digital stations they include a kids station and a hip-hop/rnb station. The kids station has significantly less area coverage and a tiny fraction of listeners planet rock has while the hip-hop/rnb station lies somewhere inbetween the two.
Surely it would make more sense to close the smaller stations and keep planet rock open? It is one of two radio stations in the uk that only play rock music and planet rock is the better of the two. With great djs such ad Nicky Horne and rob Birnie and even rock greats doing shows such as Gary Moore, Ian Anderson, Tony Iommi, Alice Cooper, Fish, Rick Wakeman and a whole cavalcade of others who have been on shows as guests (most relevantly being Brian who was a guest on Tony Iommi's show)help provide not just a voice between tracks but knowledge, care and love for the tracks they play.
The listeners are constantly growing as well, so why close a station that keeps getting more successful?
I hope that the dedicated listeners here will all help bring the station and its plight to everyones atention zso all queenzoners will listen (online if you dont have a dab digital radio) and help so the corporate fatcats that we are not like the general public and will not stand by idly while our favourite station gets closed.
Please check out this great station to hear not only Queen but also other great bands such as Led Zeppelin, Rush, Thin Lizzy, The Who, Jethro Tull, AC/DC, Deep Purple., Van Halen and allthose other great classic and up and coming rock bands. www.planetrock.com www.planetrock.co.uk
