Hey, thought I'd share my WWRY play review (Toronto)

Finally saw WWRY yesterday. I had mixed feelings about going. On one hand I love hearing Queen music played live, on the other hand, I'm not a fan of these types of shows where they take old songs and shoe-horn them in with a stupid plot. So here's my comments....

The music was great. The band did a great job on such a diverse range of songs.

The singing was hit and miss. I saw the understudy for the male lead character (gallileo) and he was most excellent. The female lead (scaramouch) was terrible though (and she wasn't the understudy). OK, not terrible, but not leading lady material. She was often off key and "floated" around notes until she hit it. Who wants to live forever was the worst, cause the low parts were clearly out of her range.

The "Killer Queen" was a highlight of the show and probably the only character that I could see Freddie really appreciating.

The other singers were generally very good.

The songs were hit and miss as well. I hated the robotic dancing numbers (Radio Gaga and something else). Hammer to Fall was embarrasing (done as a fight between the two leads) and most others were just boring. Highlights for me were 7 seas of rhye and Killer Queen. I liked the Ogre Battle instrumental bit and the dead rock star tribute (No one but you) as well.

The story was utter crap but some of the lines had me giggling.

Overall it's not a bad show, but I don't care if I ever see it again and wouldn't really recommend it to anyone.

Yeah.. I don't mean to sound so negative, I did enjoy myself, but there were too many groan and cringe moments to really recommend it.

I guess if you can get cheap tickets (like I did) I'd say go for it, but at full price ($90 per ticket) I can think of a better 2 hours of entertainment.

I know that Radio Gaga was robotic because it's the future, but it made me wonder whether or not they even wanted me to enjoy it.

I mean, they set it up as a soulless pop song generated by computers with re-done lyrics about loving the corporation and done in a robotic way... which works with the story of a soulless future where music is terrible... but as performance, who wants to watch that?

Hmmm... That's very very interesting, thank you so much for your review!
Ekhm.... Who created the plot??? Whose ideas was those? I hope not Brian's and Roger's!!! I feel so sorry and uncomfortable telling that, but i truly hope!!:S
I haven't seen it, but even imagining what it looks like sets a smile on meXD

So the lady character was called "Scaramouche" and the man char.-"Galileo"?? This i just don't like, because don't see the sense of calling characters like this:( Just because Freddie RANDOMLY(in my op.) mentioned those words in the song..;( Ohh

Cool that they did "Killer QUeen", esp because Freddie ment to tell about the certain "character" in this song..

Despite everything, i would love to see it, then i'd know for sure whether it's as bad as it seems. Very possible that it's not.

Barbie, the reason for those names are due to the lead male's (Galileo) dreams. He hears the lyrics and music of olden, better times(!) in his head. His name is one of those fragments that he has heard, so he uses it as part of his rebel status. He throws down his corporate provided name for this one.

When Scara comes on the scene, we don't know her name and Galileo eventually names her Scaramouche, again, because he has heard this name in his dreams.

It may seem kind of random, but it has some thought behind it. That's why the underground gang all have names from musicians of the past. Because they choose these names in defiance of the corporate Globalsoft.

The London show I saw back in 2003 was really excellent. And I was expecting the worst. I'm not sure what the other country shows are like, though.

Adam.

It's nothing but disposable crap. The play was saved only for the excellent music. Otherwise it wouldn't had last more than a week.

It's argument is one of the most imbecilic spews ever come out from any human's mind.
