The rumor is that GH will not share because of my mp3 sharing ... I never realized I had such power over GH. Actually, we all know that it will be his choice to share or not - and I have absolutely no control over what he chooses.

As for the few hoarders that exist, they are just looking for an excuse to hoard and feel superior. I do not recall the topic, but one hoarder posted on this board for the sole purpose of attempting to humiliate GH.

This hoarder bragged that GH would never get to listen to the concert, treated him like a child, and claimed the GH was a second rate trader. This hoarder also ridiculed GH for accidentally trading an mp3 sourced recording many, many years ago, and indicated that he was unworthy of that recording because of that one mistake.

Also, a few collectors allegedly refuse to share something new, because someone might sell it on E-bay, or because an mp3 might be shared. They are also looking for an excuse not to share.

At least 3 respected level-headed collectors on QZ (YV, Mr.Scully, and Serry) have stated that the harrassment of mp3 collectors on QZ is wrong and unproductive.

GH has been rumored to be planning on creating a new, tightly controlled flac sharing site. I hereby encourage him to do so. Hopefully, good riddance to him, and hopefully the most militant flackers will follow him and leave mp3 sharers on QZ in peace.

It is time that the militant flackers stop acting like they own QZ, and remember that Richard Orchard owns QZ and explicitly allows mp3 sharing on QZ.

Finally, I would like to thank the militant flackers for INSPIRING me to share two mp3 concerts, when I had otherwise had been a sleeping dog. What inspired me? ... Two pages of venom snd self-righteousness spewed at a newbee who had the gall to share something in mp3.

Well, some hoarders do react this way, justas you react yours. We can't change them !
But some don't.

Your post seems to be more directed against Bob (alias SirGH) than against Flac. Your love affairs are not of an interest for us, but I think you should deal with Bob directly and not here publicly this way.

mp3 sharing allowed, fine. We won't change the rules. But we just try to inform people of the huge difference of quality between lossy and lossless.

You're right, enough venom has been said about that new share recently. But in the end the discussion became polite again, if I remember well, and I think the sharer knows now what we tried to say him. The difference is that we already told you all that, so this is not your first share. I hope that the other sharer (sorry but I don't remember his name) will try Flac and understand what was said about it, and have his own experience to share. I present him my apologies, on behalf of everyone here if needed, it was his first share if I remember well. Or one of his very first ones. But I think he knows that we weren't against him personnally, probably more if he reads your last posts and our answers to you. He will know that it was not the first people shared recordings in losst format when they were already shared on lossless format.

I have nothing against you until now, provided the discussion keeps being quiet. But I jump on the occasion to try and explain why we react this way in front of mp3, and try to explain why lossless format is a much better thing. Nothing more. So please don't feel offended by these posts. It's just all about information.

Regards,

Olivier,
France.

Hi,

it´s always the same direction this discussion goes. Always the same words to read and always the same arguments.
There are people who understand and people who don´t.
On many sites the announce sections are devided in a lossless and an mp3 part. I know that was also discussed here on Queenzone. I think that would be one way to finish those discussions or make them more seldom. By the way I´m a visitor of other trading sites like for "The Police" or "guitars101" and there you can still find a lot of mp3 sharing. That means you can try to stop the sharing of lossy recording on this side but after all there´re so many other places left where people can share lossy formats of lossless show which were shared here. Of course you have to start somewhere and I´m on the Flac-side to do so. But I don´t think that brings us much more new recordings then in the past. I agree with the argument, that there will always be other arguments for not trading rare shows, because they could be shared lossy somewhere else or "I don´t want to see this on Ebay!" or a least just to hold a bonus for a trade of another rar show that is offered by another trader.
I wrote SirGH for help in searching for master-tapes and similar things and he gave me good advices. I tried to stay in contact with people whoe have recordings but mostly when I asked the final question (and I think I asked polite) there was nothing but silence after that.

Gym Bitch: It´s absolutely inacceptable to write bad things about members of this side in public. That is childish and for me it looks not very intelligent. And I would be very satisfied not to find postings without "announcements" in this forum.

Thank you
W.

May I ask WHO are you talking about ?

OK, this is something personal. I have created a couple of remasters and multi-source compilations. Some of them were shared here or on The Traders Den, others will be NEVER shared here. Simply because I spend usually many weeks (or months, in some cases - e.g. the BBC sessions - many YEARS) to get the best possible versions of each recording, after it spending hours or days with remastering them and compiling them to get a complete and best sounding version of the concert. It's natural that I want to have something like a "control" about how will it be distributed, and nobody except the Queen members have the moral right to alter this distribution form / method. I was shocked when I found on queencollector.com that Trancer SELLS recordings, which have the description familiar to the recordings I shared online a couple of weeks before. A pure co-incidence, of course.
I don't know what would I do somebody shared here e.g. my complete compilation of Hammersmith Odeon as 128kbps mp3s, but if I would meet the person in real life, (s)he would probably need to spend some time in a hospital.

And that's ONLY an oppinion who creates remasters and compilations. Now try to imagine how can feel somebody who has some really precious recordings in his archive. Do you really think that these people don't care about the quality of their "babies" ?

As a democrat I believe that everybody has the right to say his/her personal oppinion and ask others to respect it (unless the local law says something different).

Yes, that's why I TRY to be always polite when doing a flac request. Olivier always IS polite. People like SirGH are sometimes polite, sometimes not. People like 928 are never polite.
But now be honest - how do YOU guys treat US ? - motherFlackers, FLAC Nazis ....

Sharing MP3 is a contradiction in terms. It's like giving people shit. You can't expect us to applaud for that.

I will never understand why people choose a worse recording.

In the past I downloaded the MP3 shows that were shared here. then I found out they were pure crap! I found out because there were people telling me this. then i listened and indeed: YOU CAN HEAR THE DIFFERENCE!!!!

This is playing with the future of Queen recordings. That some people are too stupid to understand is not my fault. And there are many great recordings that will not get shared, only traders will hear these.

You probably mean sir GH by GH.
I respect him very much and so should everyone. He has shared many shows and he shares his reviews, his pictures,.... The best recordings page on his site deserves all our respect!!! It's impressive as is his entire site.

I think the "big" think refered by Bob had something to do with a recording more than with a new forum or something like that.
You know, Bob is probably a very busy person, as he can be found quite often here, and also runs a website. Without the fact that he probably has a normal life aside, a job and so on.
Anyway, a new forum, why not, but what would become Queenzone ? Why not upgrading the quality standards here ? Huge question, that's not the problem here.
Yes, the problem was with the sharer of a Brian May gig, which I repeat was somewhat attacked by the queenzoners for sharing soething incomplete, with a wrong date, in Mp3 and with high problems of quality (due to the digital conversion to mp3, I don't really know technically how to explain that, maybe someone could do that better than me). So not only because it was mp3, but also for other obvious reasons.
I think that the sharer was finally answered politely what was wrong with his first share, and it became constructive in the end. If this user is here and recognizes himself, feel free to join the discussion, and tell us your opinion about that. Everyody can try, and when he's wrong he learns from this.
Yes, the problem is that he was attacked because he wasn't the first one to do so, to share soething that could be shared in a much better shape. You know what I mean, you are one of those who irritated us in the past by sharing back some mp3 taken from shows already shared in Flac format if I remember well (and if I can remember well you were very happy with this too). That sort of behaviour irritated some of us, so on the first occasion that sort of things happens again, then everything goes up and some of us explodes a little rapidly. So it was not after him personnally. I'm sure you get what I mean. And I'm sure now the sharer of the Brian May gig gets it too.

But this discussion is getting boring for everyone. Let's have a break now.
If someone wants to have information or share information with Flac or mp3, please do this in another forum, before the Announce section is getting full of non-Announce stuff.

Regards,

Olivier,
France.
