Damn brilliant song, and he was right too. He even went so far as to say that once womens liberation had been around for a while, the next group of people to try and increase their rights would be kids -
and don't you know it, they've all got bloody mobile phones now. I'm 22 and I still don't use one.

BTW, Tom Snyder's historic Lennon interview on 'The Tomorrow Show' just came out officially on DVD yesterday, along with a 1979 Paul & Linda interview and a 1981 Ringo interview.. The DVD is called "John, Paul, Tom and Ringo" and has cool cover art ripped off from Yellow Submarine :)

I grabbed it for $17.99 at Borders.

I know that this song as a double meaning to it, but I still don't think that its any excuse to use a racial slur. I don't think that John Lennon was trying to stir racist controversy when he wrote this song, but he was trying to stir up SOME type of controversy. But still, no excuse to use that word.

Bzzzt wrong. It's every excuse to use the word. If blacks approved of it at the time, then it's good enough for me.
But then again I bothered to read about the subject yonks ago when I was a Beatles nut. It's very easy to just go 'oh look, he said Nigger. He must be trying to be edgy',
so you could be forgiven for thinking that.
