a little ditty about 'terrible songs from great albums' in the entertainment section:

What do you think is the worst song from an otherwise great album?

"The Long And Winding Road" from the Beatles' "Let It Be"

"My World" from Guns N' Roses' "Use Your Illusion II"

"Endless, Nameless" from Nirvana's "Nevermind"

"Mother" from the Police's "Synchronicity"

"EXP" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Axis: Bold As Love"

"Perfection," from Run-DMC's "Raising Hell"

"Songbird," from Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors"

"D'yer Maker" from Led Zeppelin's "Houses Of The Holy"

"Jimmy Jazz" from the Clash's "London Calling"

"The Girl Is Mine" from Michael Jackson's "Thriller"

"Welfare Mothers" from Neil Young's "Rust Never Sleeps"

"Love Ain't For Keeping," from The Who's "Who's Next"

"The Gift," from the Velvet Underground's "White Light/White Heat"

"Let Me Put My Love Into You," from AC/DC's "Back in Black"

"Waiting for the Worms," from Pink Floyd's "The Wall"

"When It Started" from the Strokes' "Is This It"

"Unforgiven," from Metallica's black album

"Candle in the Wind," form Elton John's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"

"'39" from Queen's "Night at the Opera"

"Pollywannacraka: from Pubic Enemy's "Fear of a Black Planet"

"Start Me Up" from the Rolling Stones' "Tatoo You"

"Lovesong" from The Cure's "Disintegration"

Wow, I like all those songs. "Songbird" is especially lovely. And "'39" is literally my favorite song. Period. If they were going to pick on something from ANATO, why not "Sweet Lady", the one track that genuinely isn't that good?

To paraphrase Roger Taylor, the telephone and shitty entertainment writers like this have devalued the written word.

'39? Welfare Mothers? WHAT!? Give me a break.

Also, I really like Songbird.

Hmmm...yeah Songbird's one of my favorite songs (and I can't stand Fleetwood Mac)

'39 is one of Queen's best songs. And "Waiting For The Worms" on the Wall is such a great part of the concept, the way it builds up at the end (and visually live and in the movie with the marching hammers). "The Show Must Go On" on the other hand from The Wall is more of a throwaway track, and maybe "Seaside Rendezvous" from ANATO would have been a better choice....

Nope. "Seaside Rendezvous" is the shit. "Sweet Lady" is the weak link in ANATO. "You call me sweet like I'm some kind of cheese"? And people complain about the "C-Lebrity" lyrics.

Search your feelings ... you *know* it to be true ...

... '39 aside, I just can't understand WHY "The Long and Winding Road", which is an absolute jewel of a song ...

Ummm, this had to be maybe an April Fool's day gag? Maybe his editor told him response is not good enough?
Seriously... I like most of the songs, and the ones I "don't" I have never heard. Let's look:

"The Long And Winding Road" from the Beatles - Classic is an understatement

"My World" from Guns N' Roses - Not the best, but certainly not the worst.

"Endless, Nameless" from Nirvana - No, aside from "Teen Spirit" this album is dreadfully overrated. Horrid.

"Mother" from the Police - Unremarkable, I guess. I had to listen to it to remember it.

"EXP" by the Jimi Hendrix Experience - Never heard it
"Perfection," from Run-DMC - Ditto

"Songbird," from Fleetwood Mac- Gorgeous song!

"D'yer Maker" from Led Zeppelin- One of my fave songs. This is an amazing song!

"Jimmy Jazz" from the Clash - nconventional Clash, but good. I like it though. (And I think the Clash are another overrated band!)

"The Girl Is Mine" from Michael Jackson - Again, Paul and Black Michael? Great combo!

"Welfare Mothers" from Neil Young - "Well I hope Neil Young will remember, a southern man don't need him around anyhow." Neil Young=Overrated, preachy and boring.

"Love Ain't For Keeping," from The Who - There is no bad song on this album. Simply push play and be done.

"The Gift," from the Velvet Underground Not really sure I've heard it.

"Let Me Put My Love Into You," from AC/DC - It sounds like AC/DC! I love them, but they pretty much all sound the same!

"Waiting for the Worms," from Pink Floyd-Saying The Wall has a bad song is blasphemy.

"When It Started" from the Strokes -???

"Unforgiven," from Metallica - Bleh, OK. Certainly not an album killer, though.

"Candle in the Wind," form Elton John - See? This looks like it aims to cause "debate."

"'39" from Queen - He's got me here. ;-)

"Pollywannacraka: from Pubic Enemy- It's certainly an overrated album. But... nah, it's just crap.

"Start Me Up" from the Rolling Stones-Best song ON the album!

"Lovesong" from The Cure-Another overrated band, but, by their standards, not a bad song.

Obviously the maker of that list is a dilweed. I completely disagree with just about everything on it. But I never pay much attention to lists like that because it's really just one person's opinion, and his or her opinion is usually stupid. What does he or she know about music anyways?

Seaside Rendezvous is and has always been one of my favorite songs off ANATO. I second "Sweet Lady" being the weakest link.

And for ADATR: "White Man." I mean, seriously, that is such a WTF song. Worst Queen song ever, perhaps?

That said, '39 is simply legendary, and MSNBC is now dead to me. I mean, shit.
