Can someone from the UK explain how this service works and how they are able to pay for it if free to customers?

I've not idea how it works, but I know my parents are planning on getting this. I wish there was something like this here in the US.

its not exactly 'free'.you have to pay £130 for it as a one off payment plus you still have to pay £136 a year for a tv licence and if you want other channels you have to pay extra

I'm not entirely sure how it works. But either way, it sounds good.

Actually there is free satellite TV in the US on the 'Ku band'. And no, it doesn't require the huge dishes anymore.

I only learned of this because some Asian neighbors have these dishes, so I looked up the name. At first I assumed it was some service specifically to get foreign channels or something, because of their Asianicity.

You won't get channel 5 on it yet, they're still under contract by sky until next year.

This site is pretty good, it should tell you what you need to know:

I looked at the website but couldn't find anything about it being free. I read the mission statement and what not. Let me know if you decided to get it Zen or at least consider getting it.

Like you have time to start a new research project!!!!! ;)

Yeah, I don't when I'd have the time to even watch TV. But I can dream.
