For a few days now I had a serious doubt about writing this post but after I read this thread (http://www.queenzone.com/queenzone/forumnew/forum_topic_view.aspx?Q_FORUM_ID=1&Q_FORUM_NAME=Queen+-+Serious+Discussion&TOPIC_SUBJECT=THAT+WILL+BE+THE+LAST+TIME%2c+I+THINK+YOU+WILL+FIND.&Q=1101358&page=1) I just have to do it....

Some time ago I informed Mr. May (through QFC, offcourse) that there is an TV show on Croatian Television which use his music without crediting him for it. I get a quick response from Jacky that Brian is verry interested in that information and that HE asked me if I could record that show and send him a copy of it.

Even though I didn't watch that series (I heard music when my parents watch it), offcourse that I do it. I spend my time to go and buy a new videotape, to catch the show and record it and finaly to go to post office and send the tape. I didn't ask anything for that, but I was expecting a simple thank you e-mail from Mr. May (through QFC offcourse), but didn't get even that. And before anybody ask me, I don't care about money that I spend, even though nobody offer me to pay my expenses.

When a 2008 tour was announced I tought, well maybe I could ask Mr. May if he could take some 10 minutes of his time on a day when we would be on a same place to meet me so that I could get a photo with him, and get an autograph. So I send an e-mail to Jacky and get a quick response with a polite fuck you.....

I'm sure that my case isn't exception...

I really think that Queen should look at other bands in a way to how to behave to their fans.

Let's just take Iron Maiden for example. On this year's tour when they were somewhere in South America there was few thousands of fans outside of a hotel, and they were seriously thinking about go out and spend some time with their fans. They don't do that only because security didn't allow them /this fact is from Rod Smalwood's tour diary which he do for all their tours).

Now, I really start to wonder, did Mr. May really was informed about my information, or was I ask for sending a tape by Jacky (or somebody else from fan club), because I simply can't believe that Mr. May wouldn't find a 10 minutes for a fan which spend his time for him...

Why you can't?

And if it's not top secret what exactly was in that 'polite fuck you'?

That was meant as a sarcasam....

It's not top secret, it was, quote:

"I am afraid I cannot arrange this, I don't even know at this time if they are doing any meet and greets on this tour, and if they DO it will be offered to all fans in a competition or something, that would be only fair!!

Jacky"

Endquote.

My question is, why did you try to help Queen out by alerting them to the fact that someone was using their music on a TV show?

If you've ever read anything on Brian's Soapbox, you'll see that he is an incredibly private person and is less likely to arrange a private meeting with someone he doesn't know than he is to simply walk along the street.

Remember that, where musicians are concerned, they all have, in the back of their minds, the spectre of what happened to John Lennon lurking. Brian has been more open than most about his reasons for not appeasing everyone and all credit to him for that. My view is that, because Brian has been so well-known for his politeness over the years towards fans, fans have then gone and exploited it. For example, where autographs were treasured as personal items in the past, the advent of Ebay has turned them in to ways for people to make money out of someone famous and Brian, rightly, feels aggrieved that he spends so much of his time freely signing items only for them to appear on Ebay to make someone a few quid. Remember also that Brian is surrounded by sycophants and people that constantly tell him how wonderful he is - this is only his fault to the extent that he isn't able any longer to see through the shit that is spun to him. He's an artist and likes to have his ego feathered constantly and people that won't or don't are frozen out of the picture; for this, read fans that are ale to objectively criticise his (or the band's) work and actions.

As an example of this, I questioned Brian through the Soapbox, as to why Jailhouse Rock was inserted in the wrong place on the "Montreal" release - time and again I received responses to my chase mails to say that Brian had moved on and that the release was "no longer on his radar". A polite critical enquiry flatly ignored. But, needless to say, I certainly wasn't surprised.

Where Jacky is concerned, she's living life in a very nice comfort zone. The fan club has become redundant since Freddie died and is a complete and utter waste of space. Why on earth people continue to subscribe to a club that offers little or nothing in return is completely beyond me. All of the information in the magazines is redundant by the time they eventually arrive because of the speed of access to information through the internet. The merchandise they offer is nothing better that you will find on any market stall. The FC Convention is now a pointless exercise given that the guest speakers answer the same questions that they did in previous years and the videos that are shown are just recycled time and time again. If you want to go to a fancy dress party with other Queen fans, organise it yourself at a much cheaper cost - you can find a Queen tribute band on at a pub near you virtually any weekend of the year.

I've no idea how long you've been a Queen fan for, but my experience over 25 years is that the "organisation" is simply there to take - all te people that work for the organisation seem to have no understanding of the level to which some of their fans truly cared about the band and it's members. Don't get sucked in by the old stories of Queen being the band that children, their parents and grandparents all love. Queen is a huge cash cow that gets milked dry about twice a year, when the same old shit comes to market for those of us stupid enough to buy it all again dutifully hand over our hard-earned.

Personally, I've moved on from Queen to a great extent - there's a morbid curiosity towards the band and it's work. Where as before I'd rush out an hoover up anything that was released, I now wait and see what the general reaction is before I do anything. But then who cares? You don't and nor should you. Nor should QPL or Brian really, should they?

Well, I may write many reasons, but to be fair it was because I really don't like the person who was credited as the autor of the music. I am (or should I say WAS) huge Queen/Brian/Roger/Freddie/john fan, but I probably wouldn't care about that if that wasn't a case.

If you've ever read anything on Brian's Soapbox, you'll see that he is an incredibly private person and is less likely to arrange a private meeting with someone he doesn't know than he is to simply walk along the street.

Actually, from his soapbox I made a perception of him as a somebody who cares about his fans. that was the main reason for trying to arrange a meet and greet.

For example, where autographs were treasured as personal items in the past, the advent of Ebay has turned them in to ways for people to make money out of someone famous

I can understand that, but I can't aunderstand why would somebody go through so many organizational problems, to earn few bucks, or Euros.

In other words, my case is one of many...

That's the main point why I'm not in a FC. When I was kid, I couldn't afford it, and now when I can, I simply don't care for FC membership (allthough I am in Iron Maiden FC ;o) ).

I've no idea how long you've been a Queen fan for, but my experience over 25 years is that the "organisation" is simply there to take - all te people that work for the organisation seem to have no understanding of the level to which some of their fans truly cared about the band and it's members. I'm Queen fan for allmost 20 years, and I still wait for them to release something new, even if this is another live recording, but I understand your point. even I buy most of new releases just to fullfill my collection.

Ome thing that I certainly WON'T buy (even if they finally release it) would be box set if it would include regular albums

regarding this, we can not pretend that the musicians have always time to meet their fans.
although, it must be acknowledged that without them there would not, because they are the ones who buy his records.
on the other hand, I can say in favor of brian, which in my country, argentina, a few years ago (1998) for a program called "surprise and a half", where dreams are fulfilled to the participants, one guy was surprised by brian and this led to his camerin by where he gave several posters and records, in addition to carry on behind the scene where he was able to enjoy all that show (at that time was on tour promoting "another world")
with this, I want to show that brian, sometimes have time for their fans ....

Or you could move to some place that Brian is more likely to visit...

At least Brian's not as pretentious as Tose Proeski. Try getting an autograph from that guy.

It's always fascinating when these people come out of the woodwork. They expect the to have time with people like Brian. Maybe, just maybe, they don't have it. And in this case, I really don't see why he should even entertain the idea.

And then Brian gets blamed for not paying attention. *Sigh*

How naïve can people be...

Anyway - I agree about Brian's Soapbox. He almost doesn't respond to the interesting stuff - only to the stuff which most people don't really care about. Sure, it's great he has a hobby like stereo-photography and the whole astrology thing - but I love the man because of his music.

So when I read he appears on a new version of a track of another of my favorite musicians (Dennis Wilson) and NO-ONE has even reported this on any of the Queen sites - I mail Brian and hope we can get some information about how they got involved, what the Beach Boys meant/mean to him etc. But no...

@ Adam Baboolal & Pim Derks

Actually it doesn't matter that he doesn't have or does have time. My point was that complete QPL/QFC/Queen treat us fans simply as a milking cow. They don't give a sh** about us, all that matters is them and they wishes.

As I wrote in opening post, I wouldn't even write this thread if there wasn't ansver of GB to somebody in other thread....

Anyway, I neither want, neither need, and most off all, don't want anybody's simphaty. I just wanted to share with you my experience with somebody I admired a lot, once.... And as I could see on this forum, there are many other people who share my opinion about Queen and especially about QPL.

Try something like this, Brian is very sensitive to the way a request is put:

Dear Brian,

After watching the musical twice last night, I decided to write you this letter. The musical was extremely good and, ehm, very musical. Actually both show were great. I can't wait until you and the hugely talented Ben Elton churn out a few sequels, I would say that with about 20 Queen studio albums out we would be covered until well into the next century. Did I mention how much I liked the musical?

As for my question, I was wondering if you have any plans to produce a new musical? Perhaps with Roger and Ben Elton? If I may be so bold, I would like to suggest a few themes such as the burdens of public smoking and animal rights in the Kensington area. Should you need any form of reassurance, me and a few friends are prepared to preorder tickets about 10 - 15 years in advance. Would that help?

Please keep us posted about general developments regarding the musical. Needless to say I would also be very interested in specific musical developments regarding the musical.

a musical greeting from your fellow musical-lover,

Fireplace.

PS Did you know Freddie and I share the same favourite singer? I simply ADORE Britney Spears!!!

PPS: Why is John Deacon missing from the Queen + Freddie's Favourites line-up? Didn't he like the musical?

PPPS: What is that first line Freddie yells in Let Me Entertain You? Ah, I thought so.

PPPPS: I have made some 300 stereo photographs of the three shows I watched yesterday. Would you be interested? They came out great, mostly because the musical is so good.

Just add a tiny bit about stereo photos, Fireplace. And word 'twice' doesn't work that good, 'thrice' will get more chances on reply.
