I loved it all. My favorite was: "Nothing has been built yet on Ground Zero in New York City years after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks."

It's so poetic, sensitive and beautiful. Because other pics usually show buildings or wonders of nature - this one shows the silence, the lack of building, the silence produced by violence and intolerance, the emptiness it leaves behind.

I loved it. Very clever, by the way!

Good thread, SirGH!

The Eye of Africa, now, that's scaring, I'm not sleeping today, I tell you, that may well have been Tolkien's inspiration for Sauron's eye, I don't know if the Eye of Africa already existed by then and he knew it, but, wow, that's scaring as hell. It's impressive to see...

And, of course, the pics of those places which the access to are forbidden are thrilling - like the Imperial City, in China!

I loved the thread, I love these things, I'll spend all my break looking at these pics, I know it already.

Love Google Earth also, especially places which are restricted in real life. It's very interresting to see countrys like North Korea in detail, if you're planing a holiday there, they wouldn't let you go to the restrooms alone ;-)

Ground Zero is very difficult to watch. My Wife & I been to New York last summer and she almost cryied when we reached the area. We've been to NY a couple of times, before summer'07 we've been there August 2001, only three weeks before the attack. We visited WTC back then and you just have all those faces in your head, like the waitress in the restaurant or the guy who operates the elevator and you hope they could escape somehow...

I would like to see a version that allowed you to explore beneath the worlds oceans.

one hasnt seen 'mud' until one has done a Glastonbury weekend...

back on topic, the oceans one would be nice only because so much much of it has been unexplored.Mans obsession with outer space and the moon has meant that it knows virtually nothing of what lies beneath the surface of its own waters.
i'll get off my soapbox now,im sounding like a certain guitarist....

I don't know how you would do a Google ocean. A trained fish with a little camera on its back? The poor little guy with electrodes going into his brain telling him what your computer wants him to do. "Swim under that rock." "No ... the other one, to your right."

Poor dolphins. Maybe those high frequency sonar signals were extremely scary or painful to them. It's very sad.
