I don't expect to be in the midst of many Genesis fans here however...

The recent DVD When in Rome is a fantastic example of what can be done rather than simply shooting a concert and sticking a few talking heads on as extras

I trues hope someone for Queen or QP sees it and take notes as I am sure by now plans are afoot for a DVD of the new tour.

In a nutshell Genesis have allowed the cameras to film everything, from first rehearsal after 15 years! right through to set design and problems on the tour.

You can watch the show in order or as each song comes on flick across to the rehearsal, this is particularly interesting as they have been very bold by showing that they can't remember the songs can't sing or play them anymore, it is facinating to see a major artist going through the same pain as a garage band before a pub gig.

Anyway, whilst I doubt Queen would want to see themselve in any way other than perfect, it is still highly interesting to see a band having to learn songs and the whole process required when putting on a major tour

Probably the best band DVD I have seen to date, hopefully Queen can do something similar in the coming tour??? wouldn't it be much more interesting to see them rehearse and chose songs and also reject songs rather than simply play them and have an interview afterwards

You're not only looking at a Genesis fan, but one who was fortunate enough to win a trip to the production Rehearsal in Brussels a week before the start of the tour... I swear I couldn't see any of the problems highlighted in the documentary.

In short, I don't think there's much point in doing anything of this scope about Queen if they don't come up with something new for the tour.

No. Queen+PR is kinda Queen.
Genesis is not Queen.

And QPR has a section of its own, whereas comparisons between Queen and other bands don't.

Now, what was your point again?

I dont see why this shouldnt be in the serious discussion forum - were not talking about Genesis per se, but about how Queen would be wise to follow their example for a DVD from the upcoming tour.

As a fan of both Genesis and Queen, and having seen Genesis on that tour, and now owning the DVD, I have to agree it would be awesome to see Queen take even a few small steps in this direction.

There seems to be some issue about how much Queen put as extra's on a DVD - very much a "will this do?" approach. They have an attitude of only giving us one intersting extra per DVD on the whole, even when we know there to be more material that is relevant to that time period etc which could go on aswell, and plenty of room on the disks!

I don't actually think the band is (in this case) quite as calculating in what kind of shit will pass as a great product to their fans...

I think it's an honest case of Brian et al. not having the slightest fucking clue about what the fans like, and thinking what HE happens to find interesting that week is what others want as well.

To Brian May's mind the Live Aid performance or a commentary is as thrilling as he makes it out to be in the soapbox, but that's just not how other people view it.
It REALLY looks like they could use some outside help with their quality control and graphic design. And songwriting, if C-lebrity is anything to go by...

I think this is the reason why we never get those boxsets. Because they will contain lots of 'not so perfect' moments, why Queen never will close a deal with those guys who recorded and released every concert from the latest tours of The Who, Genesis and Peter Gabriel (because then we will also hear the flaws)
And this is also why we will never see or hear behind the scenes stuff

I admire Genesis for getting so much stuff released and I personally enjoyed their Video Show DVD, but I don't like when original mixes are lost forever to remixes. Especially re-issues that contain only remixes and not the original albums.. same thing happened with The Doors...

I hate to break this to you, but the original albums and original mixes have been lost ever since the first lp pressings ran out.

I find it a bit odd to be nostalgic for the "original" versions which weren't original to begin with.

For those that seem to think this is in the wrong section I suggest reading the post...

I am discussing whether Queen could do what Genesis have, and to do that I have had to open by explaining it...

Surely you are not so stupid as to think if it doesn't have Queen in the title it can't be about them!
