Now here's a thing...

I was wondering... and it strikes me as reasonable, giving my generally appalling 'press' (for want of a better term) on this site...

How many people that write about me here, pass comment (good, bad, or very bad, or very very very bad indeed), those that are so quick to jump on the take the piss and insult GB bandwagon, have actually met me and/or had a conversation with me?

I'm intrigued as to how many of the people that are so quick to pass judgement on my character, on a personal level, actually HAVE spoken with me? I think it's likely to be 5 or 6. The rest of you don't know anything about me personally, no more than I do you.

If you have, then say so here. When did we meet? What did we talk about? Did you find me to be FAB, or just GREAT AND WONDROUS? Or a combination of polite, respectful, funny, charming, endearing, amusing, devilishly handsome, enthralling captivating intriguing compelling?

I do remember a woman at a Dutch convention, who hovered about but then scutlled away, kind of anxious looking, who later confessed, here, to being too 'intimidated' (WTF!) to come up and speak to me (though many others were), at a Dutch convention a while back, who then later slagged me off on here for not looking like I would speak with her, based on how she perceived I was - judging by the reactions of all the others!!!!! WHAT!!! Go figure that! Talk about CAN'T WIN. You gotta laugh, ain't ya.

MOST of you have never ever met me, nor spoken with me for even five minutes, much less an hour or two - as have MANY of the great people I meet every year at various conventions.

Be honest then... have you met me?

Do you still have those fantasies? No details of those though... just the nastiness, no doubt, you predictable lovable rogues.

xxx

PS. Don't get so anally uptight that this again is occupying space on the SERIOUS area. So what! In the scheme of things it matters not.

It was a night I'll never forget.

August 3rd, 2000. Our eyes locked across the room. You were wearing a smart green suit, I in my shorts and T-shirt.

You approached me. Or maybe I approached you. It doesn't really matter, does it?

"Can I buy you a drink?" you asked, coyly.

"I already have one," I replied, showing you my Jack and coke.

"What's a guy like you doing in a place like this?"

"Drinking." You just didn't seem to get it.

"Want to get outta here?"

"Will there be alcohol wherever we go?"

"Could be."

"I need a more definite answer than that."

"Yes, there will be," you sighed.

"I dunno, I'm not much in the mood to drink anymore."

"Wha... what?!" you spluttered.

"You're funny when you're frustrated," I chuckled.

Your shoulders dropped, as did your scowl. You loosened up a bit and flashed a smile. We talked for hours into the night, you divulging all the information about the Queen archives that you knew. It didn't take much to get that out of you... just a few Sex On The Beaches.

But all that you told me has been lost in time. The only thing I remembered the next morning was you rushing out of the room, saying, "I'll call you, I swear."

I'm still waiting for my call, Mr. Brooks.

As I mentioned in another thread, I haven't met you in person (yet!), but have spoken to you over the phone a few times :-)

My answers

-When and where
The first time I had a chance to call you, well I called you from a payphone at my High School during a break (using a phone card of course)
This would have had to been in 2004 or 2005. Will see if I can pull the dates from the old e-mails from then, later on.

-What did we talk about
I won't go into detail as I'd rather keep our conversations private for the most part, of course :-)
But we did discuss some leaked demo tapes for part of the conversation (tapes being from Hot Space I think it was, and we touched on those again recently a while ago...), and I still remember your responses about those demos.

-Did I find you to be FAB, or just GREAT AND WONDROUS? etc etc
I think at first, I was surprised that you were so pleasant and indeed charming to talk to. You were totally nothing like what everyone you out to be here, nor did you ever talk down to me.

I think the only time you got mad at me was when I posted the 'BBC Version' of "March of the Black Queen" here in response to people demanding that I prove them wrong, I think.
Since then, I've learnt me lesson LOL :P

I don't think not having met you can prevent people from forming an opinion (whether it be right or wrong) on your character. I've never met William Shakespeare, Henry VIII, The Queen etc.. but that doesn't stop me, or millions of others, forming an opinion as to what sort of person they are due to the fact that lots has been written by them, and about them by others.

AS you are a published author, regular web 'blogger', and public speaker, I thin kthat it is reasonable enough information in the public domain for an opinion (even if you consider it to be ill informed) to be made of your character.

I'm not saying this is right or wrong, but even in the contect of an email, text message, letter or conversation with someone, we can all expect an opinion of us to be formed by the other party, as we will undoubtedly do to them.

Oh, we met too!
You were very easy-going, genuinely interested, generous and appreciative of the work some of us did at the Dutch convention.

Afterwards I regretted that I did not offer you a pint of something. (But at the time, I was just too distracted by the beautiful pieces of music you brough us.)

To be honest, I don't get it how you can come over as such a nutter in here :-)

Man I just had this conversation in another thread. Unfortunately, in that situation I'm on Greg Brooks' side of the fence.

In this regard, I'm starting to feel a little sorry for the guy - but not much. He's the same as me; he could always just..... S.T.O.P

Heh.

Yawn...........

Come now Greg - I didn't think you wanted to be associated with the masses here? After so much time spent banging on about how you're so mis-represented here, you then actively ask for people to prove that they have met ya in person.

Just like in the thread about the FM box set, you're after a few friends.........

Why not just completelt steer away from this place that you detest so much?

Thanks Jeroen. I remember you well. You are a gentleman.

In fact, I don't think I ever met a Dutch person that was not genuinely courteous and friendly. That's why I go back every year. It's a pleasure. No abuse, no rude people butting into conversations, no shouting, no-one aggressive or brash.

God, I wish more British people (and other nationalities near and far) were more like the peace-loving respectful Dutch.

We've got some right nasty horrible ignorant scrotes here!!!!!!

Cheers Jeroen. Let's have that pint soon.
