I want to create a Queen store in my town within the next year. Selling new Queen cds, used LPs and singles, and other Queen items. I'd also have record players for sale so people could buy the frickin vinyl singles... they sell them at Walmart and other places, but, some people don't recall seeing them there (though I've gotten two brand new record players in the past year or so!). The store will specialize in Queen, but there will be another section for other LPs and singles, as I've got thousands which I've either inherited, bought, or were given to me as they were going to be thrown out (even new ones). Sometimes on eBay I'd find a sale, like once I found the 12" Pain Is So Close To Pleasure single for sale with like seven other brand new 12" singles. The PISCTP single was brand new as well. I'm not selling that baby but I'll buy more.

I think it'd be great. I probably wouldn't make much money but it'd be doing something I enjoy. I mean, if Brian Wilson could own a vegatable/health food and product store in the 60s, then I can own a Queen store.

Best of luck Jake! I hope you´ll get a lot of success.

But it should be great to offer all kind of Queen music... and the solo stuff of all members of Queen.

Nice idea and again: Good Luck, Jake!

Forgive me Jake, if I come off a little hard...

Are you a fricking tard?

So you wanna open up a store... a music store. (Bad Move #1). Who opens up a music store anymore? I can go on-line and find what you're selling for less.

But you're going to rent a monthly retail space for this? (Bad Move #2) Most places make you sign a lease. How long do you figure you'll be sticking it to Walmart and Amazon.com, Mr. Adventure?

But then you're going to hire employees to work at your Queenstore, assuming you're not an amped up Crank Head who plans to work every hour of operation. (Bad Move #3) Who is going to want to work at this Queen Store? You will have no customers and be playing the same music every freaking day. I'm sure you'll find someone.

And then you're also going to sell USED Queen product in your store. (Bad Move #4) This should draw some fire from The Evil Brian May (above) who will have you in court before you open your doors. He'll be particularly fond of the used QPR stuff you sell... not.

Well, good luck!

Yes, there will be a website so everyone knows what's in-stock and maybe online ordering as well.

Maybe.

So you wanna open up a store... a music store. (Bad Move #1). Who opens up a music store anymore? I can go on-line and find what you're selling for less.

It depends on the location. In my area, our nearest music store is like 45 minutes away. Other than that, it's Walmark and Kmart, and they basically only carry Greatest Hits collections. New England is one of the few places in the USA that accepted Queen songs after Hot Space. Not many people here hate Queen, and a lot of people ask me, "Where can I get something other than Greatest Hits" or they tell me all they can find is the platinum collection, Classic Queen, or Stone Cold Classics.

But you're going to rent a monthly retail space for this? (Bad Move #2) Most places make you sign a lease. How long do you figure you'll be sticking it to Walmart and Amazon.com, Mr. Adventure?

If it fails, I'll just turn it into a regular music store for all artists, with a big selection of Queen though. I'm pretty good at advertising products. I'll even carry Bad Company stuff. To Hell with Treasure Moment. Once people enter the store, they'll realize I have things that at Walmart and Kmart, must order, as they only stock compilation albums by rock artists like Queen. There's still a lot of people who do their shopping at the store.

I just might work all the hours at times, but I'll have a relative or friend work in the store. Will I be playing the same music everyday? Yeah, but you know, the customers, I hope, won't be spending their WHOLE day there, so they won't hear any repeats. There's so much to Queen and the member's solo projects, that each time they come in, they'll probably hear different songs.

And then you're also going to sell USED Queen product in your store. (Bad Move #4) This should draw some fire from The Evil Brian May (above) who will have you in court before you open your doors. He'll be particularly fond of the used QPR stuff you sell... not.

It's not illegal to sell used Queen albums/cds/cassettes/dvds/etc. There's no way I'd be meeting up with Brian in court. On used albums, Brian's made his money when it was new. You've never heard of a record store with USED albums and singles? Rediculous. I've bought so much at stores like that. ***There will be new products too***, I'll go through a distributor (Walmart's CDs are from a distributor!) and order all the albums and have them on display, the singles will be used or new (depending on where I got them). I mean, I'll go on eBay myself and buy stuff there and sell it. I'm going to go out and buy a big inventory. Another thing I should mention, is I'm selling only US releases. So singles like 'Save Me' will not be available. I like to buy things in bulk, so when I buy Queen items from a collector in bulk, it saves a lot of shipping costs. Therefore, I'll be selling the items at a good deal, while making a little bit of a profit. I'm not in this for the money, I'm in this because I love Queen. And really, I think Brian May would think it's a nice idea.
Well, good luck!

Thanks. I'm pretty sure I can do a good business with Queen. There's many Queen fans in the area. I don't really know anyone who hates Queen, though I noticed the hardcore Queen fans around here are a little geeky, but I don't mind. It'd be great to discuss Queen with others.

The one in Montreux is good, its sort of half Swiss gifts and half Queen, but there is a market for it there. If youre thinking about it then Id stick to online.

One of the worst business ideas I've heard in a while, but one of the most fun ones as well. If money's not an issue, then you're right to try to live your dream.

Now, if can handle the extra expense and fuss, why not add a Queen/classic rock themed cafe to the mix? It's a safer venture and it can help attract rock fans who'd be interested in your merchandise.

I think a Queen museum is a better idea.

Then again, who is crazy enough to display their rarities in the middle of nowhere?

Like I said though, there will most likely be a section in the store for used LPs and vinyl singles, maybe even new CDs. But it'll mainly be a Queen store, as I want to carry all the old singles and have at least two of each single stocked in the store at all times. I'd like to offer collector's singles as well (hard to get ones).

I was also thinking about another non-Queen section. What I mean, is I'd like to create a section for local bands on indy labels to sell their music. In fact, I'm interested in producing and writing music for some, and maybe even create my own label for bands. There are a lot of great bands out there, who go on forever looking for a label. (Far off topic, but I'd even like to write songs for pop stars like Britney Spears, Hilary Duff, and Haley Bennett).

Currently, and for the past few years, there are no retailers that carry any music in my town. The last time there was, it was Ames Department Store, but they sold out to Kmart or something. That was like six years ago. There is a place in town that carries TONS of used cassettes, but the only Queen cassette they ever have is Made In Heaven or Greatest Hits.

That'd be fun, wouldn't it be neat to have a Queen exhibit like in the Queen+Wyclef music vid to Another One Bites The Dust?

Anyways, a nice huge Queen museum would be great, but it'd probably have to be in London or some big huge city.

Money's not an issue to me.

To make a cafe, it takes a lot of work and a lot more laws are involved.

I think it would be a cool idea for a flea market setting (weekends only). You could also make a website and publicize your flea market locations in advance.
