Two Points:
1) Cant people be patient and wait for the album to be officially released before buying it and listening to it in good quality?

2) Im pretty sure recording a track off the radio, then sharing it online is all sorts of copyright infringement, and is the sort of thing we are constantly trying to avoid here to keep this site running!
See how long you last as a member of Queenonline posting links to illegal copies of a track on the band's official website!

Some people amaze me.

Just because the tracks are being shared now doesn't mean it'll affect anyone buying the album on the first day. In fact, it's made me even more excited for the album after hearing 'Time To Shine' and 'Still Burnin'', and I even went ahead and ordered the album from the album club (despite the exorbitant price) so that I'll get it on or around September 15th, and not on October 28th.

And maybe it's just me, but if a song is recorded off the radio, it's fair game for distribution. I can understand being miffed if the album was leaked, but these songs were played on the radio, and even broadcast on the Internet. It's a gray area for sure, but I don't think it's as bad as you're making it out to be.

IMO if it hasn't been officially released then it's ok, however, after the album is released all songs from the album uploaded here should be removed.

people: this is official stuff!
even worst: this is official stuff, wich hasnt been released yet

its true, that most of the true fans, will buy the album, even after hearing the leaked tracks
but, other people, wont buy the albumn, just because they think it is useless, cause they have all of the album tracks on their pc

so, these kind of things are against the copyrights laws
you are sharing and distributing an intellectual own...and it hasnt been released!

For what its worth - after being a Queen fan since 1979 I wasn't excited about this new album at all.

Since hearing the radio broadcast tracks uploaded here I've become very excited about the new release and placed a preorder for the album.

Yes, a radio broadcast has already been let out to some extent, but that doesnt make it right to record and then share that broadcast online, especially here.

My first point was about patience - why does everyone have to hear/see new things before they have been officially let out? Isnt part of the fun of liking an established band the excitement and build up of waiting for a new release?

But the second point - its not a morality issue in the slightest - the simple fact is by sharing a track online without permission, recorded off the radio or not, you are breaching copyright of the owner, in this case Queen.
Regardless of whether YOU think this is right or wrong, it is illegal, and ultimately would result in this site being forcibly shut down if it kept happening: Id rather that didnt happen. You?

As for the now classic argument about illegal downloads somehow encouraging purchasing:

1) Its bollocks - music sales have PLUMMETED since file sharing took off.

2) OK, YOU might listen to something online and then be encouraged to buy it, but you are absolutely in the minority - most people do not. We shouldnt let all these idiots who steal music get away with it just because the ability to do so convinced you to buy Cosmos Rocks.

3) It is again about patience - so many people today have this wanting it all, and wanting it now attitude - before the internet unless you were willing to actually go out and physically buy a bootleg copy of an album before it was released you had no way to "try before you buy" in the way you describe - you just had to listen to the radio and suchlike to pick up on what was decent, or, SHOCK HORROR, buy something you'd never heard before as an experiment! Or buy a single, and if you liked that, buy the album!

Cwazy, re:

--We shouldnt let all these idiots who steal music get away with it

Equally, you could argue, that by broadcasting the track (s) on *independant* radio, Queen + PR are, effectively, giving the material away to anyone that tunes in. The people who pay the station to advertise have paid for the tracks and, therefore, offer them up to you for your pleasure.

Had it been broadcast on *public service* radio, you have, to all intents and purposes, paid for the tracks already because, whether you listened to the broadcast or not, your taxes have contributed to the purchase by the radio station.

Either way, an "official" broadcast of material is simply a promotional tool that you pay for or are "given".

--It is again about patience - so many people today have this wanting it all, and wanting it now attitude

Whilst to a great degree, I agree with you (I'm buying the album, from a shop just like old times), it's inevitable (albeit slightly sickly) that greed from demand will over-run most of s in the search to hear new material as soon as we can. After all, it's been some long wait for product from these guys and, if we're all honest, we can't wait, can we?! It may be that YOU are just more patient than others or, on the other hand, not hungry enough for it to want to bother hunting it down.........

What is the intent behind downloading a song? Is it to have something without paying for it or is it to decide on whether to make the purchase.
I have mixed feelings about this.
There is almost no chance that I'll hear any of the new CD on the radio and I refuse to purchase any CD without hearing at least some of it.
If it's good I'll buy the CD(in late OCtober when it's released in North America) not unlike the numerous CDs I've purchased after illegally downloading mp3 from the CD.

I downloaded leaked songs out of curiosity. They strongly influenced my decision to buy the new album.

Thats an interesting response Benn. If I can seperate that out:

1) when something is on public radio Id suggest that what you have in fact paid for, and what the band has given you the opportunity to get, is a one off airing of the song - you have not paid to own the track in any way, shape or form.

If what you are saying is true, I have paid for every song ever played on BBC radio, and should therefore be able to do as I wish with them. I guess I'll start sharing all Queen's singles tomorrow then!

Yes, you may choose to record from the radio for private use, but the second you share it you have used the track far beyond the intentions for letting it be played in the first place.
You are opening it up to people, probably not like you and me, who will download a poor quality radio version without a second thought, and will like and listen to the track, but will never pay for it.

2) The patience thing; you said it yourself - its greed thats driving people. But in the case of those people who download an entire album and listen before buying Id suggest its also a lack of respect for the band. They have set a release date for their work to be released to the world - thats for them to do. You are actively going against their wishes by seeking it down prior to release.
Its a bit like having someone wallpaper your entire house, then refusing to pay for the work or the paper because you decided you didnt like it AFTER you'd had a chance to try it. Why not just make a sensible judgement based on the singles and stuff officially let out? - The bit of test paper you get to take home and mull over if you will.

A song played on the radio can be perhaps distinguished slightly, in that the band have let that one out for exactly the reason some people say they illegally download - to give you a taster of the album, and allow you to decide whether to buy. But uploading that track for others to download from the net is going beyond those wishes.

I am very excited about this new album, and get even more so with each listen to officially available material and the mostly positive buzz coming from the press who have heard it, but I dont have the right to demand to hear it any earlier, and I respect the fact the guys have set a release date.
Its not a matter of hunger to hunt it down - indeed there would be little hunting involved, as I imagine its now very easy to get the whole album online - I just have some self control.

The best things are worth waiting for arent they? Because they're all the more satisfying when they arrive, surely!

1.) No.

2.) I have a 3 part answer for this:

a) Do you really think a low grade copy currently available on youtube.com as well as several seconds late in starting is going to somehow cause a law suit?

b) Do you see anyone on the internet that is going to somehow find your complaint as informative, effective or in any way potentially alternating to what they will to do?

c) After this USA October 28th stupidity I have ZERO sympathy for Queen's company and hope every American can get their hands on a copy legally or not. I will order a British copy by mail and meanwhile any link for a copy I can grab I'll hesitate 0.00000000000000000001 of a milisecond in your honor, how about that.

Im proud of you for showing such restraint in listening to illegal music.
In response to your 3 part answer:

a) No. But if QP spot someone offering copyright infringing material on this site they will request for the link to be removed. If this happens on a frequent basis the site will get shut down.
This is the same reason we do not share officially released material in the announce section. Just cos something is a future release does not change the fact it is illegal and might piss off QP.

b) No. I dont think for a second anyone who shares music or films illegally gives two shits what I think. However, I will be laughing my hairy arse off when the music, film and computer game industry fully get up to speed with targeting file sharers, which is now becoming easy for them to do, and the courts are letting them do it.
All Im trying to do is prevent any risk to this site, because, despite it being frequented by a fair few brainless idiots, I quite like it.

c) Cant you see this just makes you sound a bit like a spoilt child? Boo f***ing hoo Queen are releasing their new album later in the US than the UK - trying living on this side of the Atlantic, until recently pretty much every movie came out a week or two later in the UK than the US, and even this year this has happened with a couple of films - The X Files (About a week later) and Tropic Thunder (STILL not out here) both of which I was very much looking forward to.

So what did I do? I waited, patiently. I didnt download them illegally, cursing the makers for letting someone else see them before me - I just waited. Try it sometime; it wont actually hurt you at all.

yeah, i think also this is completely legal, because Queen and PR gave permission to radio to broadcoast songs. this thing with uploading songs is just the better way for spreading Queen songs so more people can hear them. not that everyone can listen to that radio when song comes out...this argues are pointless, i don't see any problems with it, when group gave permission. let's just imagine everyone was listening the radio when Queen songs came out. theoreticly, it's possible...
