In the run up to the release of The Cosmos Rocks, Roger taylor (I think) said one of the songs could've been on Sheer heart Attack. My guess is he was talking about Small. In fact, it sounds like a Smile song that could've been on Queen 1. Any thoughts?

It was Brian who mentioned that and he was talkin about Call Me, in reference to the same lightness of the SHA album.

Did he specifically say Call Me?

And SHA is "light"? [/img]

This is the quote :-)

CLASSIC ROCK
June 2008, Issue 119, p50-53

- Can you tell us about other songs?

May: I won’t say which, but we’re toying with including a cover song from the 1950s. There’s one called Whole House Rocking, which is fairly basic and jolly. Paul has contributed some lovely stuff that people might compare to our Sheer Heart Attack days, including a great little ditty titled Call Me. I won’t say it’s like Killer Queen but it has that same lightness. There’s also another called We Believe, which is fairly upbeat.

No one song in TCR would be part of SHA. I think Call Me is the worst song in the album.

Touche. Was thinking the same thing myself.  You know what - the so-called more "familiar" Queen tracks - the ones without Paul's influence all over them - hail back to their rougher tougher period. Still Burnin - many fans hate this - reminds me of It's Late. The drum sound and the rougher sounding guitar for example.  I still think that News Of The World is more of a likeable comparison. Brian playing bass is another example and the lack of synths and harmonies another. That's my opinion anyway.

A massive diversion from their singles based albums of the eighties. Maybe an album which Brian and Roger may have produced as a latter Smile album without Freddie. The tracks have a better live feel about them as well and should sound good on the tour.

There you have it as they say.

We all of us deeply apologise for this god forsaken shit heap of a building...but we will make it rock.

I wish Brian would put his demo of Some Things That Glitter (assuming there's a demo of him singing it ofcourse) up for download for charity or something. It's a brilliant song, but Paul doesn't do it justice IMO. Same thing as Freddie with TMLWKY - he has a better voice than Brian - but nowhere near the emotion Brian puts in a song.
