This was already announced in Queen News, and here is a link to the Fathom company that is sponsoring this in 300+ movie theaters. http://www.fathomevents.com/details.aspx?eventid=755[/url[/url>>]>]>  (Oops, sorry, the link doesn't work.  Go to the site and click on events.  Queen+PR is at the bottom of the list.)

Weekday evening movies are not well attended in the USA and especially so since the economy downturn.  Thus Fathom brings special events on the same date to theaters across the nation to boost sales.   I believe they started with operas and have added other genres.  (It is an inexpensive way to dabble in opera which I may try sometime.)

Maybe six months ago I saw We Will Rock You (Montreal).  Freddie and the gang on the big screen was great fun!  It was double-billed with a Deep Purple concert - two for the price of one.  When I heard about it, I was afraid there would be no tickets left, but there were - $10 each online.  There were only three of us in the whole audience!  Deep Purple was on first, and Queen ended about 11 pm.  It was a 16-screen theater, and on a Monday evening at 11 pm, the whole place was dark and deserted - very creepy walking out of there.  I could have bought a ticket at the door.  Weeks afterwards I started receiving SPIN magazine in the mail each month - Fathom apparently sells your name to a mailing list.

The concert was terrific even though I have watched it a zillion times on my tv at home.  With surround-sound there was a whole new listening experience.  Freddie sounded even better if you can imagine that!  I e-mailed Fathom to request Live At The Bowl and Wembley, but that did not materialize.  Who knows, maybe if a lot of Queen fans did the same, it might happen.

So, here's your chance to "see" Queen+PR in the USA.

Yes, it was a worthwhile experience.

The difference between the last concert shown in theaters and this one is that Fathom actually promotes upcoming events during regular previews in participating theaters. I would expect a better turnout for this one. The last event was not a Fathom event, because the theater that showed it here does not show Fathom events.

I still say we are the only ones that turn up in Columbia....if you can actually go, that is...;-)

Thanks for the clarification.  Hmm, I was thinking I have never seen Fathom previews in my local theater, but then my local theater didn't have the We Will Rock You concert either - I had to go out of town.  I think I will email Fathom and ask if they can add Inver Grove Heights, Minnesota, to their location list.  It is a Kerasotes movie chain, so maybe not.  It never hurts to ask.  Or if it isn't Fathom I should be emailing, do you know who I could email?  Thanks!

I emailed Fathom requesting their offerings be shown in my local theater.  Their reply:   From:"FathomEvents" Date:  Fri Oct 10 19:32:56 2008
Thanks for your inquiry.  At this time the NCM network of theatres for Fathom events does not have a location closer to you with the necessary satellite equipment and cabling to pull down a LIVE high definition feed.  We are continuing to expand this network and will keep your market in mind for future expansion.

Thank you.
