DEAR Colonial Cousins:
im curious to know how our colonial cousins are getting on with the British Phenomenom that is Little Britain:
is the humour translating to the other side of the pond? which characters are a hit and which ones completely miss the mark or does 2 blokes in drag [most of the time] go down as well in the US as a mid 80's Queen video?

ps,keep an eye out for Stephen Fry In America on a channel near you in the USA and try and guess how often this old pirates jaw hit the floor during the first 2 episodes :-P

Although not coming from the US of A, I can honestly say that I'm a big fan of Little Britain. The sketches with Andy & Lou, Majorie (Fat Fighters), Daffyd aka "The only gay in the village" and Carol Beer are classic. I think it's a very clever programme, in which absurdity and (self-)mockery are the prime factors. The latter being most present as they love to have a piss at minorities in society (f.e. homosexuals). Tongue-in-cheek at its best!

In some countries several scenes have been edited out. Gee, can't they see that British humour tops anything else? ;-)

Little Britain is a bit rubbish. I still watch it though, it tends to produce at least one laugh per episode.

As the first "colonial cousin" to reply, I can't tell you much.
I haven't had TV for 4 months now, and I'm actually toying with the idea of not getting my cable turned on at all.  I get the one local station on the TV and that's enough for me.

Besides, I have much more fun watching my DVD episodes of Black Adder than anything the US has to offer (well, except The Daily Show and Colbert Report, but I can watch those online)

I've recently started watching this as it is on after Entourage, which I love. The first time I watched Little Britain I almost peed my pants laughing. I laughed so hard and so much that I wanted to puke. I don't know the characters by their name yet since I've only seen like 3 episodes but I love the "I want bitty" one, the girl/guy with the long blonde hair that wears a lot of make up and says "oh my gawd" a lot. Last episode she caught her hair on fire with a cigarette. I also looooooove the doctor's office receptionist character, "computa says nooo." Hmmm, whoelse.....Oh the gay Tony Blair I guess it is? When he put the diamond necklace on the US President, is it supposed to be Barack?

I'm still a Little Britain newb but I love it so far.

We don't have HBO.  If we did, our Time Warner cable bill would be $500 a month. ;-P  I swear...every month those bastards add another 20 bucks to our bill...

I was kidding about $500, but it is edging closer to $200 every month, and we have no movie channels.  We do have the digital phone and internet with them, though.

glad you are enjoying it :-]
the girl that says 'oh my gawd'  and 'yeah, but no but' all the time would be Vicky Pollard which is based on a typical teenage girl here in the UK commonly refered to as a 'chav'.it would live in a council estate somewhere naff like Swindon and wear lots of jewellery straight out of the Argos catalogue and have a child as soon as it can bring its knees up to its shoulders just to get social benefits and a council house.
in the UK version, the guy thats meant to be prime minister on your version was actually the private secretary in ours and was camping it up to Anthony Head of Buffy the Vampire fame's PM.its still taking me time to adjust to the fact he's the PM in your version and yes i think thats meant to be Barry O'Bama as the US president lol
not sure on a few of the new charactors, the woman with the dog in the park leaves me a bit cold as does the astronaut but the 'bitty' bloke is great in a funny but cringing behind the cushion kinda way.its wrong,so wrong in so many ways lol
i would of liked to of seen more of Lou and Andy [wheelchair couple] in the series so far but we are only on episode 2 [3 tonight BBC1] but im impressed so far with how its going.

Damn.  I may have to spring for HBO just so I can see this show!  I'd rather not have to pay for it though; I'm trying to save as much cash as possible because I do need a car and with this economic meltdown I don't have any idea whether getting a loan is even possible anymore even if you have good credit!

Is it available online somewhere (preferably not in little cuts on YouTube)?  That would save me some cash....

I wonder if there is a way I can get them off my DVR, burn them to a DVD and mail them to you Maggie. You know how techno/electro/computo dumb I am :)

One more thing I thought was funny was when the characters were driving in the car on and revisiting where they met, etc. and the husband kept trying to say nice things to his wife about how happy he is that he met her and she just sat there the entire time and didn't say a word with this totally blank look on her face until he asked her if she wanted a cup of tea. She said yes so he starts pouring it and the last part he pours on her lap and she still doesn't budge. Then the husband says, "You've ruined my life." I crapped myself on that one. it doesn't take much to amuse me I guess :)
