I would like to blindly jump aboard this particular bandwagon and add my support to the tens of thousands of other people who, until this week, were blissfully unaware that Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross had made prank calls to the much loved guy who used to play Manuel in Fawlty Towers.
They may have apologised to the guy who played Manuel in Fawlty Towers but as far as I'm concerned, they can take their apologies and stick them right up their over-paid arseholes. Until I receive a written apology from both Brand and Ross, along with a full refund of my television license fee, I will never again watch clips of the offending remarks on Youtube. And even if I do receive an apology, I still think that Brand and Ross should be forced to dig their own graves and shot in the back of the head at close range.
The only people who have managed to walk away from this sordid affair with their dignity intact is the guy who used to play Manuel in Fawlty Towers, His grandaughter who has had to cut short her tour with 'The Satanic Sluts' in order to sell her story to the Sun newspaper and PR guru Max Clifford who is laughing his tiny cock off, all the way to the bank.

And a big thanks to the British media or concentrating on important issues for a change instead of all that boring old tosh concerning the US elections, international terrorisim and the global economic meltdown.

Now join me in song................RULE BRITTANIA. BRITTANIA RULES THE WAVES!!!!

fatty.

I'm a massive Russell fan, but I've always been a bit "Meh" about Ross.

I think the calls made to Sachs were very out of order, and, at the time of listening to the program, I felt incredibly uncomfortable listening to it. I had no idea it would turn into what it has though.

Having re-listened to the show, My opinion on it is, I think... What Russell forgets, is not everyone shares his sense of humour, and he's naive enough to think the whole world will see the funny side. And he's also guilty of getting carried away, especially when he's with someone like Jonathan Ross, who he feels the need to show off next to. He's like a school boy, showing off to the bigger kids.

It's not so much the answering phone messages that bother me, it's his motives. Even if Sachs had picked up, what would he have said? He'd expressed no prior interest in getting him on the phone, only when he'd learned he'd had sex with his Granddaughter. Let's not forget, the Granddaughter who expressively asked him not to tell her Grandfather. So, why not just leave it well alone? Oh. Because he needs to be the centre of some form of attention the whole time. I love the bloke, but he seriously needs to think more.

What it boils down to for me if that I find, ringing a 78 year old man and leaving multiple offensive messages on his phone regarding his family members, unacceptable.

This is totally Brand and Ross' fault, and I'm not standing up for them but, the show was a pre-record. How on EARTH did something like this slip through the net? How was in allowed to be aired? Surely someone should have listened to it and thought, "Hang on, that shouldn't be there." How was it allowed to be broadcast on BBC radio? I find it unbelievable. Heads should roll...

Oh well, the Granddaughter is clearly a massive whore and is loving the attention.

Lastly, I'm hugely gutted Russell has resigned, I love that radio show and have listened to it for about 2 years. I really will miss it, especially Russell's co-presenter, Matt Morgan. It's usually light hearted, and funny, it's a shame he got carried away. I'm going to be so upset without my weekly podcast. Stupid, stupid boy.

For those who haven't heard about this story....

The story...

The actual phonecalls made...

Russell's statement...

im still trying to get my head around Wossy being a 'comedian'.i said it in the random thread that he is as much as a comedian as TM is a 'musician' and i stand by that comment.
anyway,he's a very lucky fay fat lisper for not getting the boot while the wonderful Dame Lesley Dougles took the bullet for him.
Russell is Russell, thats how he works, like a modern day Kenny Everett flying close to the knuckle and im sure he will pop up on a channel near you very soon [did he mention it on Ponderland at all?] but Woss? how much would the BBC [us licence payers] have to fork out in compensation if they sacked him?

but more importantly does this mean the vultures will be hovering the next time 'young master Wogan' has Boggy Marsh on the show and the next installment of Janet and John airs?

The things that people will make a fuss over today.  Can't people look at things with a bit of perspective?
Let's say this happened 50 years ago.  I'm pretty sure they'd both be over it by now (or dead).  What's the lasting damage, here?

I suppose the damge is in verbally abusing a 78 year old man. Two knobends.

As for the media, it's hard not to laugh at the moralising of The Sun.  And of course it makes a good story for the tv and newspaper pundits to ramble on about for days, while their bosses - the ones who helped cause the current economic crisis - enjoy the distraction.

Hmm...usually Americans are the ones that are too conservative and maybe I'm missing a lot here but I listened to the calls and I thought they were funny. Sure it's not cool to tell a 78 year old man that you had sex with his grand daughter but they did didn't they!!!??? I feel bad for the guy but in this day and age, when you are in the spotlight anything goes. Nothing is spared.

Am I missing something? Is there more to this?

Not really. It's been blown totally out of proportion, by the majority of people (and newspapers) getting the wrong end of the stick.

I think what the newspapers should be concentrating on is how on earth the BBC let it air, really.

Ok and I agree it seems to be blown way out of proportion. I don't see anything wrong with letting it air but I do have one question, here in America we've got that Sirius radio, satellite thingy where you pay for it so pretty much anything goes on certain channels like for example Howard Stern. It's like cable TV with HBO, Showtime, etc. But we've also got public radio where things like this would never make it on the air. Is the BBC more like satellite radio is here or more like public radio? Do children have access to hearing Russell's show I guess is what I'm asking.

The Russell Brand Show is aired at 9-11pm on Saturday night, on the UK's biggest and most popular radio station, radio 2. Swearing isn't allowed, so Ross using the word "fucked" was pretty bad in itself. The BBC has to be careful with what they show, because the BBC is public funded. We pay a license fee for the BBC, unlike ITV for example, which is funded by advertising, and there is no advertising on the BBC. It's a very respected station with large viewing figures, which is possibly why this has caused such a stir.

for Lisser:
the show was pre-recorded about a week before airing on radio2 and is/was available via the BBC website I-player function,so technically available to anyone in the UK whether they are young or old.the problem that has arisen seems to stem from the idea that the BBC which is funded for by the British public by way of a licence fee [non negotiable if you own a tv] allowed a show to air that verbally assaulted a member of the public and a popular tv person and his grand daughter and cause offence in general.the argument being that we [the british public] pay for this and their wages by form of taxation and was not suitable material for airing.the other problem was that no one appeared to listen to the show [in the BBC] before it was aired to make sure it was suitable for transmission.it really could of been totally avoidable but for one reason or another isnt/wasnt.
the plus side to this though is that Jonathan Ross is off the tv/airwaves until the new year so BBC1 on a friday night might just be worth watching again

The more I get to know Russell Brand, the more I realize that edginess doesn't always equals funny.
He just tries too hard, and he just brings cheap laughs from what I've seen.

Jonathan Ross, I don't know much about him, but I have to give him kudos for ridiculing Jerry Seinfeld and making him look like the arrogant self centered douche bag he us.

You don't like Jerry Seinfeld?! I would ever see him as arrogant....

But you're right about Brand, couldn't have summed it up better myself. But because of his growing success in America and the likelyhood that Sky in the UK will give him a huge contract, means that this will probably have no effect on his career in the long run.

But kudos to the BBC for taking action, instead of firing some middle-management bearucrat they've taken the axe right to the top.

Oh God, don't even get me started on explaining how Jerry Seinfeld is the most arrogant comedian out there.

Let's just start by saying that the guy was never funny. As a stand-up he was horrendous, and he still is. His show was only successful because Larry David produced and wrote the majority of the episodes, once Larry David left to work on "Curb Your Enthusiasm" because he wanted to do something edgier, Jerry pulled the plug on his own show before it jumped the shark, and now makes millions from syndication.
Recently Jerry has been going on tirades on people who question his success. He threw a fit when Larry King asked if NBC wanted to pull the plug on his sitcom, and then accused the woman whose cooking was plagiarized by Jerry's wife of being a nut who Jerry went to compare to the assassins of JFK, Martin Luther King, and John Lennon.
I'm very glad that his retarded "Bee Movie" bombed, because the campaign to advertise it was certainly excessive. Jerry should just step out of the spotlight and go buy another Porsche.

I'd just like to interject here and say fuck you Jerry Seinfield.  You were never funny.  CHRIST, I did try, I really did... when most of the people you meet in life are saying 'Seinfield has funny episodes, give it a chance', you start believing that maybe there's a mystical episode you haven't seen yet that will have something funny in it.

Well, I never saw it.  I did my best in sitting through that Godawful nonsense and I was never rewarded for it.  It was about as funny as a crucifixion.
