Brazil - Finally Some Promotion

The Queen + Paul Rodgers gigs scheduled for this month in Brazil finally have some sort of promotion, even though too shy. This is a sticker for the last few days in the second most popular internet portal (portuguese only):

http://callback.terra.com.br/queen/

They offer 2 tickets and a visit to the concert's dressroom to meet the band. Contestants must write a criative phrase about the theme "Queen + Paul Rodgers. The legends of rock. Yesterday, today and always".

Appart from that, no promotion at all has been seen, other than one or two small news in sparse websites. It seems that a TV ad has been made for the Rio gig, but it is only being aired in Rio, if so.

Queen fans have a hard time nowadays in Brazil in trying to explain to regular people, and even rock fans, that Queen has not stopped working and that they have a new album and tour with a new singer and under a new name.

Queen is hugely well known in Brazil, specially among those over 25 years old, up to elder people. Queen songs play very often in social events of all natures and people love it. Freddie impersonators are seen frequently in local fairs and on national tv shows. A local release compilation, called "Queen Collection", topped the sales ranks for months last year.

If any serious promotion had been done, stadiums would certainly be filled with fans and regular people. As it turned out to be, only small to medium arenas were booked for the first visit of the band to Brazil in 23 years.

Cheers,

Ogre-

At least they are touring. Up to the promoter to sell the seats not the band - maybe your fanclub should be putting pressure on the promoter for the Brazil leg to advertise the shows not just expect people to turn up when they don't know they are coming to town,.. USA tour 06 all over again.

This information is not correct , Arnaldo sorry, because this is not the only promotion. There are about 12 days disclosed here, the site queenbrazil in electronic journals as respectful Whiplash on orkut and also in queenonline, A MEGA-PROMOTION, under the coordination and dissemination of the site Queenbrazil - Mondo - EMI, so to win fans and phrases & gifts of the band .. This promotion, other than the Terra (although both will give tickets and others), the site Queenbrazil will be 10 tickets, and has nothing to shy because it is a success for more than 1200 people participating until the moment. I tihink do  you need to engage more in queenbrazil site, after all have things that only he does!

Hi,Isis dear friend ... I agree that the concerts here in Brazil should be in big stadiums worthy of the Queen, but here there is no active fan clubs, but there are sites, especially the queenbrazil, which has within its humble capacity overcome all problems and lead the band until the fans and fans until the band, even if it is through reports of people who can travel the world and see the band or occasions such as gatherings of fans, exclusive interviews or places like Garden-lodge, Montreux, etc ...
It is little we know, lack yes, union .. serious work and other things, but about love and tremendous desire to see them and that everyone can see them, so we think the promotion because the tickets here dear, come to cost around 279 euros.

Have a nice week end... kisses for you!

Hi LT

AQ has seen some great promotions for the SA tour coming out from the Brazil Fan Club.  Let us all tell you well done we are watching with keen interest from down here how the SA leg turns out.  We love some of the concepts you guys have come up with to promote the guys from your end. Excellent stuff going on from your camp.  Keep up the great work.

If we can assist you in anyway just contact us you know we will help you out if we can.

If the ticket price is out of the average person's price range this is going to make the numbers to the show always lower than they could have been.  When Robbie Williams toured down under (and we are talking about an A grade celeb at the time of his tour) - they sold the tickets to his shows down here for $90AUD each.  He was sold out all over Australia in a matter of minutes. Extra shows had to be put on.  It is ok that Q+PR are playing in smaller arena's if they need to put on extra shows it can always be done.  Price is always going to be an issue.  If they keep the price down they will sell out no worries and possibly even have more demand for another show.  It is a tough one as I know they have to cover costs also and sending all their gear to SA is not cheap.

What sort of publicity are they getting over there?

Can you tell me are they getting media coverage from the following media houses?

- Newspapers (are there big adverts in the papers in the entertainment sections for where they are touring?  -btw can you cut them out and send me over a scan of them if there are please)

- Radio stations (are the BIG commercial radio stations advertising the tour and are they playing Queen music?? Older Queen music is fine)

- Television (a bit early for them to be appearing on tv talk back shows yet but keep an eye out for that at this point you sould be seeing adverts appearing on your big television stations broadcasts)

- Magazines (are they getting any coverage in the music magazines down your way?)

Really by this stage of the tour there should be Q+PR coverage in all of these modes of media houses. If not then promoters are not putting the $'s in to the publicity side of things that they should be but it is impossible for us to work out what is going on down there number wise for ticket sales without seeing actual number of tickets sold against how many seats they have up for sale.  I guess me question at this point is what of the SA tour is sold out at this point?

These are some of the numbers to venue capacity we have at hand but have no clue on numbers of tickets sold thus far. Are you able to find out for us?

South America

19 November
Santiago de Chile, San Carlos de Apoquindo
CHILE
Venue capacity 20000

21 November
Buenos Aires, Estadio Velez Sarsfield
ARGEBTINA
Venue capacity 60000

26 November
Sao Paulo, Via Funchal
Venue capacity ???

27 November
Sao Paulo, Via Funchal
Venue capacity ???

29 November
Rio de Janeiro, HSBC Arena (?)
Venue capacity 12000

Is EMI SA promoting the tour and new album in the main cd/record store outlets over your way?

If there are things not happening in the media houses yet for the tour email me.

regards Isis

Yes I totally agree if you are online and you are from SA you really could help show your support for SA by getting behind the queenbrazil site.

If you did not know they were out there this is their url - check it out it is there for you all in SA so it is a good time to check in with them all and let you know you are from SA and out there online:

http://www.queenbrazil.com

If you are from SA and  you have a website up out there it would be good if webmasters check in with http://www.queenbrazil.com

I think this is their contact page on their site but I can't read it fully.
http://www.queenbrazil.com/email.html

and see if they need any help or support from other SA websites even if you have a bebo, myspace, facebook page or other social network type pages up you can help support Queen Brazil and the band if they need a bit of a boost in publicity.

Thank you for your comments, Lady Taylor. I admire your work and I am aware of the promotion you did. I should have mentioned it as well, I'm sorry. I think it will hit a lot of the web-based Queen fans. Perhaps the vast majority of them.

On the other hand, my comments are on the lack of country-wide promotion that would hit all of our population, which I know is not the aim of your work, which, I repeat, is very admirable. Queen is SO big in Brazil, that all of the promotion up to now is not able to reach 10 per cent of the possible attendance. 90 per cent of the people that would consider going to such a gig will not even be aware of it.

I would like to get closer to QueenBrazil, but my professional assignments do not permit me so. I really would, I mean it, but I am totally out of time. I hope to have an easier life in the future and to get closer to you guys.

Cheers,

Ogre-

To Isis and Arnaldo ..
Isis .. Brazil is really too big, too and unreliability have fans too .. The disclosures are poor .. in jonrais in some media, electronics, but I have not seen anything on TV .. We have worked hard to promote and achieve means of dissemination and utilization of the great band that is the Queen .. In Argentina, for example, there are posters in the streets, spread out doors and publicity in the mass media .. So in Brazil, we will end up in a small space, with high prices .. and so very special fans ended up not being able to go .. It's a pity .. But not by issso will try to ...
When Arnaldo friend ... thank you for your words, at no time was a personal criticism, not least because nutro great admiration for you and have great pleasure in that you were collaborating on the site, only enrich us .. Well, the goal here was not an open discussion rumor, but we all know that Brazil needs to restructure while fans ..
  Love to all!

Yeah, I must say here the divulgation is really bad. And the prices are terrible too. Each night the place in São Paulo fits only 5000 people? About that... for a band like Queen is a real shame, they're not getting the band full potential and they could even earn much more money for sure.
I bet they would fill stadiums if they had done better job on this. Many people told me they would go on better conditions. Many people don't know this legendary band will be here, and says: Oh!! I didn't know!! I wish I could go, that would be great.

To introduce the band to the "newbies" about Queen is very hard because of the raw divulgation although the band is really well praised by here, but usually people think they're over.

In writing in english so everybody can understand...

Duran Duran, 3 days earlier, with the original line-up (including Roger Taylor - the other one), is half of the price. I wouldn't think twice. Even for a full-force Queen, this price is just outrageous.

About the promotion: yes, Queen is very popular here and should have a bit more promotion, or at least people should be reminded that they are here. But as it's Queen +... I don't think people would make any kind of association to the real thing.
