Hi everyone! And thanks for reading this!

On 21st November 2008, when Queen + Paul Rodgers played in Buenos Aires, Brian May signed a t-shirt to be auctioned by Rotary Club Junín Villa Belgrano on the internet, in order to raise funds to buy computers for a local school.
Education is the foundation for our children's success in life, and in today's world technological knowledge helps to greatly improve their chances of getting a better education and jobs in the future, which will give them a better quality of life for themselves and their families.

This is School No. 12, in Junín, Buenos Aires, Argentina, which will be favoured with the computers bought with the money raised from this auction. Over 300 under-privileged kids aged 6 to 16 attend this school.

Note: Brian has agreed to signing this t-shirt for charity, and the auction is being held with his kind permission.

Please contribute to make children's lives better!

Wouldn't it have been easier just to ask the Doctor for a hundred bucks?

Plus, if you check the bargain bin at Borders, you could have picked up several copies of Bang! for 70% off and he would have signed every last one...

Note: The guy standing behind Brian has not agreed to signing this t-shirt for charity, and the auction is being held against his wishes.

2nd Note:  The "Authorization Letter" clearly states that this auction is to be held for 30 days.  This auction is a 10 day auction. [/img]

Thanks for being so respectful, as always.

Rotary club IS an NGO, and we usually don't ask for money from other NGOs.
$400 is not the price for just an autograph. It's a symbolic price to get a $400 donation to buy computers for a school.

Please if you're not going to contribute with any good comments, try to avoid writing on this thread. This one is for a good cause. There are thousands of other threads where you can show how stupid you can be if you try hard enough.

Any intellegent person can read the auction and know that SOMETHING is not on the level here...

We understand that education is the foundation for our children's success in life, and that in today's world technological knowledge helps to greatly improve their chances of getting a better education and jobs in the future, which will give them a better quality of life for themselves and their families.

Ok.  That's to suck you in.   This is FOR THE CHILDREN.  Uh huh.

The favoured institution will be School No. 12 "Juan B. Alberdi", located in Junín (Buenos Aires province, Argentina), attended by over 300 under-privileged children aged from 6 to 16 years old.

What exactly will these under-privileged children do with these computers?  Will they have internet access?  Does that mean they could possibly come on here and be subjected to a little QZ abuse?  Are they going to study physics?  And then what?  Go out into the village and cure cancer?

The school had requested our aid approximately two years ago, since they need to create a special classroom with computers to raise the educational standard of their students. Until now, we were unable to fulfill their need

You've been unable to do anything for 2 years?  Greg, is this you?

so we decided to use the funds raised with this auction to buy computers for them.

Where are you buying these computers from?  Are you the buyer?  Are we trusting you to spend EXACTLY what you get or do you have a profit margin?

Also, two more computers will be donated: one on behalf of our club (using funds raised with previous events)

Wait a second, you said you haven't been able to do anything for 2 years, now you've been holding funds?  Couldn't you have put those funds in a foreign Money Market account and posted a gain?  You could have bought another computer?  Who's your head of Secondary Marketing anyway?

and one by two of our members who individually want to contribute to this project.

Names? Contact information so we can confirm your story?

It's pretty amazing the amount of scammers out there on the internet.  They often use ebay to make profit for something that really isn't legit.  Ebay offers special services for non-profit charities, but you've decided not to take that route.  I would also question that.

I do believe the story what I do not always believe is if the money is USED for the purpose they say.

I'm not going to add anything else on this subject.
If you need confirmation, I added a link to the rotary.org listing where our club appears and can be contacted. Unfortunately, our president doesn't speak english, so it would be useless to give you his phone number, but if you're so interested in contacting him, I'll be glad to. You'll have to learn spanish though.
And if we are holding funds now it's because we just made an event and have some remaining funds (since we are going to buy a kitchen for a school -because some children in Argentina have to eat at school because they have nothing to eat at home-) and there was some remaning money.

If you need more details, please contact our trasurer, she's the person who can tell you exactly where our money comes from and what we do with it.
And if you're still having doubts, you can check www.rotaryjuninvb.org.ar and see pictures of what we do, and actually see our faces and who we are.
By the way, we always add new pictures of the projects we've done, so there WILL be pictures of the school and the computers we bought for them.

patr1c1a, just ignore these trolls. I think they're a secretly jealous lot for somewhat obvious reasons.

I appreciate your efforts to raise money for a good cause. And it was nice that you made sure to make sure Brian knew of the cause and to ask his permission for the auction of his autograph.

I think everyone needs reminding, there ARE uses for the computer other than the Internet, you know. How many of you can actually take time to remember all the fun, educational programs we used to use back in the mid-90's, before high-speed Internet penetrating the majority of households in North America would become reality?

Personally, as much as I'd love to personally bid on the auction and help support the cause, I'm already committed to a Queen rarities lot including autographed items from Brian and Roger, which I'm buying from a fellow here from Austria, and that's taking up quite a bit of my personal spending money as the EUR is expensive converted to CDN$.

I do wish you luck however.

There are dozens of fake autographs on ebay each day - sold by professional fakers and sellers who only sell for their own profit but for some people a charity auction is apparently so much more offensive.

It's always easy to say: why don't you make money in another way, why don't you ask Brian May for money and not an autograph etc etc. It's so much easier to attack people who actually DO something than to take any action ourselves. Isn't it outrageous that many people can spend 400 $ for a signed TShirt while so many children do not get the education that would ensure them a better life and even do not have enough food? In fact, it's easier to make people buy a signed Brian May shirt than to make them send a couple of dollars with nothing in return and no public pat on the back.

Good luck with your auction.

I do not want any google ads here.

Very well said, Barb!

I find it almost unbelievable that the Rotary Club should be suspected, while lots of bad apples get away with the most obvious web scams.

Pato, ignore them, and well done!

Unfortunately, that sum is out of my reach, but I wish you good luck with the auction!

Well thank God.  Now that kids can eat AND use computers.  Unfortunately Brian May was only interested in helping with the computers.  Doesn't he know that SOME CHILDREN have to eat at school because they have nothing to eat at home?

Shame on you, Brian May!!!  SHAME!!!!

Couldn't you have autographed some boxer shorts so they could buy a bedroom?  Some kids have to sleep at school because there's nowhere to sleep at home.

In Argentina (my country too) education still a delicate issue, not every children can get a good college education, and you all should be proud of Patricia, at least someone do something about it. I'm sure that for you, bunch of morons, the only way to HELP you know is sharing torrents with other morons... there should be a law against stupids like you living in this world; maybe the next time people with a good heart like Patricia should raise money for buying a heart... or a brain for you idiots!.

Sorry for my english, and my respect to Patricia

PS: The auction current bid in less than 30 hours is US $810.00... Suck it up, you selfish assholes!

By a bidder with ZERO feedback.   Yes, "owned".

EDIT

After seeing the pictures of the school, any bets as to how long the computers will last in the school before someone steals them?  Perhaps members of local thug faves "La Capo", who apparently named the front of the building in blue.

What is your problem with a bidder with zero feedback, Microwave? Do you think they would create another account and outbid the highest bidder who had just offered one thousand dollars, only to raise up the price?
They already had a bid of $1000. Why on Earth would they bid the same amount with a fake account?
I don't think there's someone who could be such an idiot (except for you, of course).

You write as if you've never seen an internet/ebay bullshit story.  This has nothing to do with Argentina, unless the entire country of Argentina is in the habit of raising money for charity thru ebay auctions.  All you can do is throw stupid insults around, which might proove that these computers are sorely needed in your schools.

Have you ever heard of the phrase "read very carefully"?  Perhaps that isn't taught at Juan Valdez School #12 at the local village, because the auction letter clearly states a "30 day auction"... this is not and is clearly a violation of the terms of said letter.  If someone is going to blatantly ignore the written authorization, what's to say they're not doing something else not completely on the level?

And I believe someone else pointed out that "99% of ebay autographs are fake"?  Are you THAT willing to bet your reputation, and that of your beloved Argentina, on the authenticity of this auction?  Well, then I have 50 million in diamonds because I am the son of a former Monarch in a small African Country.  I'm willing to split it with you because I can't get it out of the country thru legal channels.  I just need your bank account number...

Wow, not only you're a complete idiot but you can't read either. The written authorization clearly states a 10 day auction, you moron.
Thank God there's not too many people like you in the world. Or the children of "Juan Valdez" school (again, the moron can't read) wouldn't have any chance in life.

Anyway, I see you have a fixation with female genital area, considering you read my name as "vagina". If you're so eager to have one, I know a dr who can make you a very pretty one.
