I was wondering if anyone could tell me if the vinyl version of "The Cosmos Rocks" that comes in the Best Buy Exclusive Limited Edition "fan pack" box set is 180 grams like the other four vinyls are?    I was not sure and was curious what it is.   Thanks for letting me know and have a good day!

Hmm I was curious a while ago if they were freshly remastered in a way optimized for vinyl. Guess not.

Funny you should mention old Japanese pressings. I own Canadian and Japanese pressings of "Queen II", and the Japanese one sounds far better, I think.
I *love* how Japanese-pressed vinyl records don't age as bad as the US/Euro vinyls. I have a lot of records (mainly of "Urusei Yatsura" soundtracks and singles) from Japan, and they sound a lot cleaner (not to mention more well-cared for) than non-Japanese records from the same time periods. Not to mention the packaging is often done a lot more brilliantly, if not creatively :-)

...and I absolutely, wholeheartedly agree with you Inu-L.
Nothing beats a seventies vinyl from Japan, in ALL aspects.
USA pressings are a nice second though :-)

But to be short, from what I saw and heard from the new SHA en QII heavyweights... QP fucked up again because they are being cheap bastards.

These whole packages look and breath cheapness.
Very thin sleeves, far from the best printingquality, the innersleeves are the kind of cheap paper that immediately leaves big fat fingerprints where ever you touch it and the records themselves do NOT sound like audiophile pressings should (and normally do) sound like.

BAH!

I bought these two, but will not think anymore about buyig any of the others when they come out.

BTW: I think the TCR vinyl (the EU pressing anyway, dunno if the US version differs) DOES sound great!

I listened to a couple of the vinyls in the TCR box and didn't think they sounded that great.  However, I do have a cheap record player, so maybe that was the reason. [/img]

Silly.    I am actually a weirdo because I for the most part in theory do not play a certain amount of my vinyls because I am kind of considering them collector's items.    I just have the almighty fear of that ol' needle doing a dance on my piece of plastic leaving some arty design that could just as well be the face of God but NOT on MY vinyls thank you very much.

I play all my vinyls, regardless of their value. This includes picture discs, coloured vinyl, whatnot.

Am I weird? :-P

Once you get a really good stylus, you may find it difficult listening to those scratchy CDs again.  And they're not as expensive as you think.  I do think the new records sound pretty good.  Are they half-speed masters?  No.  Does ANATO sound as good as the MSFL Master Recording or the Japanese LP?  No.  Do they sound better than the original Elektra UP LPs or the original Parlophone issues?  Oh, yes... quite a bit!  But this could have something to do with the number of times, over the years, that I've played those records.

Another thing is the artwork.  I think that's been lost in translation in todays world of digital downloads.  The album cover is a lost art that just simply can't be replicated in a 5 inch CD booklet or printed out on your computer.

I quite agree with you on the artwork aspect.
I actually had initial thoughts that the TCR artwork, from the start, was moreso prioritized for LP than for CD - hence the tiny men in the bottom-right corner :-)
