XD
I felt compelled to share this because I found it so prettiful:
http://www.englishrussia.com/?p=1808
It's a sin that whomever it belonged to should have left it to fall into such disrepair!

http://englishrussia.com/?p=636#more-636

And that's one in a city in Russia, in which groundwater managed to seep into the foundations and made all sorts of little pools and streams and such within the structure. . . I find it marvellous. :D

Does anybody else round here like to look at and/or photograph abandoned houses, buildings etc? I'd thought that I was the only one for a while and that it was just some stupid fascination I had, but then I found this:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/ruraldecay/discuss/72157594396597842/

Some of the photographs are amazing. Unfortunately in order to photograph such places myself I'd need a car with which to drive around, and I can't even drive. So I suppose I'll have to wait a few years. xD
Discuss. Or not. I know this thread sucks. <3

Perfect locations for a cinema version of Half Life 2. ;)

The ones on the first link were more interesting, to me. But the pics I most loved (well, considering pics of abandoned places) were some pics of Chernobyl as it is nowadays.

I, too, would love to travel on some places like that taking pictures, it must be quite amazing. Maybe in a few years, who knows?

Funny, I too have this fascination for abandoned buildings, and I also thought I was the only one around here. Beautiful pictures on the links, thanks! How fascinating and atmospheric it would be to wander around in those places armed with a camera.

Although, a tasteful combination of the two would provide much joy.

I love them both a good lot! :P

@Raf: I think that the Chernobyl pictures are very cool too. I've found for you an English Russia article with some good photographs:
http://www.englishrussia.com/?p=293
An awful lot of stuffed animals and dolls lying all over the ground. xD

@Knakenrudi: You are very welcome; it'd really be lovely to be able to travel the world with a camera! Someday I'll go to the Russian Far East, to cities like Khabarovsk and Vladivostok, and I hope to find all sorts of great things to photograph--abandoned and occupied.

I love to look at abandoned/haunted houses! Those pictures were amazing. I knew I wasn't alone, but I never bothered to ask if anyone else had the same fixation... xD

We had this amazing abandoned house near my school in Brazil, this brings back memories of me trying to see through the steel gates. The yard was huge and the house was tiny, but you could  still make out a heavy dust coat on the window... The place was rotting away, it was great.

It was Looshus and Mastuh's house, and they're still inside <3

These pics from Chernobyl definitely aren't the ones I had seen before! Great, thanks!! :)

I definitely should add "Visit Chernobyl and take pics" to the list of things to do before I die.

I just love abandoned things!! This site has very nice pics of Japanese ruins:

http://home.f01.itscom.net/spiral/research.html

I especially love abandoned amusement parks, but abandoned buildings are also very awesome! I also can't visit such places myself, I can't drive a car yet...But I'd just love to visit such places more often than I do now, I don't even know if there are many close to where I live. I did visit one when I was on vacation (but that was an unfinished hotel, so it wasn't as much fun as it would have been when it had actually been used by people and was finished) and I also saw some just from the outside

You can also search on www.pbase.com for 'abandoned' and you will get quite great galleries.

Here are my pics of the unfinished hotel, it's just a few:

There's a series of an abandoned chemistry lab there that is even more amazing than the Chernobyl pics.

Knodel, great pics! Well done! :)

From the japanese link you posted, I like this gallery better than the rest:
http://home.f01.itscom.net/spiral/baigun/baigun01.html

It's almost scary to see how those plants can easily take over an entire house and a lot more...

I have no idea why the quotes are so full of empty spaces, but most times I try to remove them, or try to erase some sentences so that I can quote only one sentence, it looks fucked up. :\ The white box disappears, and the quote gets mixed with my own text.

Actually, I'm not sure how radioactive it is there.
I saw a pretty cool video of the place on Youtube though, they were mucking about on this piano that was covered in crap.  It was so out of tune and creepy sounding.

It's still more radioactive than your average place, and there's a 30km no-go area, but they do do tours of the dafer parts. Sounds fun. Want to go.

I'd definitely go if I could only do a better job of saving money for traveling purposes.  This is the 2nd year I've piked out on going overseas.

I'm trying to convince a friend of mine to come with me. She doesn't sound convinced. We are, however, coming to Australia. So watch out.
