Finally, it looks like my publisher, Music Sales/Omnibus Press in London, are about to agree to a completely revised edition of my Queen Live study - Queen Live: A Concert Documentary.

NOT BEFORE TIME! True. The plan is to COMPLETELY ("Brooks loves his CAPITAL LETTERS".... yes I can hear you now)... completely overhaul the entire work. Not only will the text be edited, and obviously the errors amended (finally), but I will add new text and change more or less everything. Just the subject of Support Acts, as an example, has been improved upon ten-fold since 1995, now that all experts can swap their info.

Most importantly, I would like to add a vast amount of memorabilia to it, which was not possible back in 1995. We now have many many hundreds of wonderful Queen Live related items professionally photographed... such as posters, flyers, tour progs, tickets, t-shirts, laminates, and so much more. Certain posters are so fantastic (and rare) that I would hope to show them FULL page.

Anyway... last time I planned to update the book (which the publisher later postponed), I amassed a lot of great detail from fans. Many errors were pointed out and so I wrote much new text to replace what exists. I still have all that data, but I'm interested in receiving ANY observations about any text in the book...

1. Any errors - I should rectify.2. Any text that is not entirely clear or is misleading, that could be re-phrased.3. Any spelling or date errors.4. Any new data that would be good to include.5. Any new stats, figures, summaries - I can add to the back of the book. 6. Suggestions for text or images to include.

It is my intention to make this the definitive Queen Live reference book, with EVERYTHING known about every gig and tour - unless it's tedious or dull. I will scrutinise the various great web sites, but this does not guarantee that other errors won't creep in.

If you want to point out ANY detail, then please do so. Perhaps it is possible to put together an edition of my book that no-one on QZ, or anywhere else, can pick fault in. That would be the goal.

LAST QUESTION: Is it possible to find ALL mentions of my book to have ever featured on QZ??? Because I know that therein will probably be some useful stuff.

I don't think I have much to add, but I would like to wish you good luck with this project! I read the first version and, despite the mistakes everyone often points out, I liked it.
Maybe it'd be interesting if you could post fan reviews OR press articles about "special" concerts, such as their first Japanese tour, the Latin American concerts, their appearance at the Live Aid festival, the Wembley'86 concert etc.
Detailed info about professional video recordings could be interesting too, since this is a subject that collectors love. ;)
Ah, and one question... Will it also include Queen + Paul Rodgers concerts? Since many of us have been able to attend their concerts, I guess most of us would love to see further information about the tours. :) And since this whole thing is pretty recent and it took place on "internet days", I guess it'll be a lot less hard to gather information about these tours than it was to gather information about concerts that took place 30 years ago.
Whether you include these things I asked or not, I'll be looking forward to reading the book once it's finished!

If you plan to include Q+PR concerts in this edition, I wouldn't mind adding some interesting tidbits for the Vancouver 2006 show as I was there :-)

Good luck, Greg.
I can't unfortunately help you because I don't own the previous editions, but if you manage to correct all errors, this will be after a very long time the first Queen-related product I will buy

Good luck with the project Greg, I will certainly buy it, should make for a very interesting read..... Unfortunately, I still wont be purcahsing the Singles Collection you worked so hard on, which for some unknown reason has gone up in price and is now £55 in HMV!..... is this new price to make people who purchased it at £39.99, to believe they bought a bargain?

What should be better compared to the old version:

-more info!!!!!!!! There are so many shows with bootleg representation(and often great shows) but that have totally no info in your book. Also, when reading the book you do not get an idea whether Queen performed a wonderful show that day or just an average one. I'd like more comments about the shape of Freddie's voice, Brian's playing and the playing of the band altogether. How did the audience respond? What were the comments in the newspaper the next day(s)? Maybe it could be interesting to try to find out how they regarded Queen in various countries and to acknowledge those differences.

-making full use of the Queen archive. There must be professional recordings for each tour. Giving some more info about those shows would of course be great. For example: In your 2004 book you mention some Crazy tour shows that were recorded. Pointing out which ones were recorded like you did for the Live Killers tour would be great. And certainly professionally recorded shows with no known unofficial recording are of great interest to the die-hard Queen live shows collectors.

-adding comments from the people who were always there, being Brian and Roger (and John). Would be great to know what they remember from their touring life, anecdotes,...

-I've mentioned it before, newspaper is also nice. It gives an idea about how Queen was perceived in their day.

There are a few truly awesome sites about Queen live. Have a chat with those webmasters with great knowledge about Queen's live performances. I'm sure they will comment in this topic soon.

By adding all the memorabilia does that mean Brian's book or whatever it was is now shelved? or am I getting mixed up? didn't you guys start collecting that stuff for another project?

Why writing a book especially made for Queen fans instead of releasing a 70s concert in any format that'll only interests Queen fans? In other words: in both cases a small public is reached, but why a book.......again?

Don't take it personally. I'm just curious.

i woulda thought that blindingly obvious:
DVD release = no royalties for Greg, book = loads of writer's royalities....
and the nicest bit of icing on the cake? sites like QZ are free advertising....

so to summarise: GB releases an informative - but error-strewn book. makes money from it, then gets QZ members to "revise and correct the hundreds of errors for him. then - thinking that they are contributing to something further - many people send precious items to GB - (one or two manage to get mislaid AFTER GB has made "research use of them"...). Finally, a "revised edition of the book is getting released - with the corrections and new material (photos, posters, memorabilia etc) provided gratis by QZ members....and GB is set to make yet more money from the project...

this is a perfect example of communism - all (QZ) working for a greater good - and one (GB) getting rich off the back of the goodwill

I think you guys are being a bit harsh. Remember it's not Greg who releases the CDs and DVDs. He can't do that.
If you feel ripped off for helping him, then just don't help him neither buy the book. It's very simple.

I don't want money for that! LOL (although I do realize you're being a sarcastic smartass but nonetheless)

Oh, joy!

A hard-copy version of all the additional work Mr Scully has already done.

Can't wait to see that.

FWIW Greg, if this is going to happen, please have a good look at the Led Zeppelin concert documentary book - it's THE template for this kind of thisng and ensure that all photographs are correctly placed (chronologically) and annotated correctly.

Flippin' heck Greg. WHY BOTHER?
Those of us that really want the facts will go elsewhere (Scully etc.). Your stuff has been so discredited in the past that no serious fan would go near your stuff.
Even the sleeve notes you've done are shockingly inaccurate,
You haven't won the trust and confidence of ALL the real fans. Therefore you'll NEVER get all the info needed for a book of this depth and magnitude. For instance, Elland Road, Leeds - recorded info you will never get hold of, Back stage classic stories and pics about Queen and Straight 8 at Wembley.
Who's your publisher? I'll happily do Queen Productions a favour, secure non-release and point in the direction of the real deal.

Good luck and, as the French say, "courage"! The only help I would be able to give you would be to advise you to get in touch with knowledgeable fans, Queenzone and further, but I am sure you already are doing so.

Cheers,

So what's the status of this project, are you still working on this, Greg ?
