OK.  Lazy way out, but I've had a bit of search on the Internet and can't find much info.  Obviously the footage was originally professionally shot - any idea if this is ever going to get an official release (the entire Queen part of the 4 days).  From the sh*t but 'hats off for putting this up guys' footage on you tube it would appear that this would be a cracker to secure on DVD.  Queen in their prime.........................with a sweaty 'up-close' audience...!

Since the arrogant people of this forum won't answear your, because they believe it 's a waste of wisdom to take care of previoulsly asked questions, I'll do it with pleasure.

The Concert For The People Of Kampuchea is not scheduled to be officialy released in the near future.
It'll be like a dream come true, but it wont happen' in a few years, possibly never in DVD.

Cheers.

Maybe the arrogant people of the forum had other things to do in the short few hours between his post and yours ...   someone would've gotten to it eventually.  Cheer up!

Greg Brooks has stated that they have the video, and would like to release it, but have decided not to release it until they obtain a multitrack of the audio so they can make a proper surround mix, as they're not entirely satisfied with the stereo track they have.

Greg said he thought it was stolen. At the least it has been lost. He seems to suspect that someone out there has it.

Agreed.  The concert itself wasn't performed in 5.1, so why should the DVD be that way?  But the need for a multi-track seems like it's more of a desire to overdub than to do a surround mix.

The Who finally released Kilburn 1977 in its entirety, and the sound is mono.  It's raw, and it's real.  I can't see why Queen can't follow with one of their shows from the era, as long as the video and audio are in decent enough shape.  I guess it's all about how we define "decent"...

There's a 5.1 of Kilburn - not that I have the equipment to make use of such an arrangement.

No need to tell it to US :-)

Personally I ALWAYS listen to a stereo PCM track on a music DVD (if it has one).
I still think that a 5.1 mix is necessary to Star Wars, not to a rock concert recording

This also has to do with an individual's appreciation for music.  I myself enjoy better sound.

Fair enough.  Most of us do have an appreciation for quality on some level.  But if you had to choose between a mono DVD of  a 1970s concert or no DVD, which would you choose.. ?!

Not releasing Hammy '79 is just an incredible blunder...

And don't tell me they can't because they haven't got the multitrack. Thin Lizzy didn't have a multitrack for their Live and dangerous DVD release and they even made a surround mix! ( they first postponed the release too but when they found the search didn't lead anywhere they did what they could with the stereotapes, with great result)
