From the BBC interview :

Has anyone done justice to Freddie Mercury trying to do a Queen song?

ROGER: I think probably the great, the best performance of a Queen song was probably George Michael with Somebody To Love, yeah, which he did with us, actually, for the tribute to Freddie, and then re-released that.

So, two entire tours with Paul, and when asked to pick the best guest singer they ever had, he choses George Michael, ouch ! That's just mean :P Frankly, Paul's The Show Must Go On was rather impressive too ...

At least there will be no such arguments with the Video-Projected Freddie Tour.

That reminds me of the Made In Heaven launch party in the Zenith of Paris during which the audience was cheering a video of an audience (Freddie Mercury Tribute) cheering an audience (Milton Keynes) cheering Freddie Mercury.

Talk about mise en abyme

I agree with Roger.

It doesn't necessarily mean he didn't think highly of Paul. For all we know, he could've been his second choice or something...

At the end of the day, even if George had made better justice to Queen's songs, having toured with him would've been too 'get another Freddie', and as such more susceptible to backlash. The whole point of teaming with Paul was to get somebody very different (not gay, more bluesy, not outrageous).

John hated HS. Fred's fave singer was not PR. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

Assuming the phrasing of the question was as written then I would agree, Michael did without doubt the best Freddie impression if you like.

Paul did it his way and I think that was correct, frankly I don't think it would have been right to have someone join officailly and try to copy Freddie, why what would be the point?

Going off topic slightly not sure how I feel about them singing to a video of Fred, if they tour again? Whilst it was a nice touch in the last tour I am not sure I would like to see it throughout a gig or even more than one song. I would much prefer a live vocalist, but either way I will go, any chance to see Roger and Brian play Queen is fine with me.
