Did anyone notice how Brian May used Freddie Mercury's memorial day on November 24th to promote himself once again? I am sick of this! The point of the day was basically to recognize the fact that Freddie was a first-generation immigrant from India who became a huge international star. Rather than talk about Freddie, Brian of course has to launch into a discussion of how HE also came from the same region in England. Sorry Brian, but you are 100% white and your dad was an electrical engineer, making him upper middle class. At another point, Brian labels Freddie as having been a "misfit." The only "misfit"  on this very special day is you, Brian! Stop trying to minimize Freddie's achievements.

A particularly daft comment, among other silly and misguided comments.

This place since October of 2004 is not friendly towards people who seems not to be parishioners of St Brian's church, dude... Just calm down, get some drink and have a good time.

I feel compelled to reply as you are being so vitriolic.

Brian is hardly promoting himself more...empathizing.

Upper middle class is the class just below aristocracy, like the judiciary.  But that's a whole argument on it's own.

Basically I think you've taken it all a bit too hard - the good doctor's words are easily amenable to a different interpretation.

Freddie did that already by dying.

We have a winner.  TQ is absolutely correct on this.  And the OP is not necessarily off base.

Many will already know this, but with regard to the original commentary on class, of the two men it was Freddie who grew up with the trappings of upper middle class wealth.  His life was one of boarding school, piano lessons, and servants in his Zanzibar home.  Only when they came to Britain did the Bulsaras have a change in financial circumstance.  Brian on the other hand grew up in a household of very modest means from the beginning, and it was precisely this situation that led to him making his own guitar rather than purchasing one.

I thought his remarks were very fitting.  The day was not just about Freddie the man, but about Freddie's roots in Feltham. Not only was it perfectly appropriate that Brian noted his own history there, it would have been silly not to. In his remarks he called Freddie 'the Greatest Artist I've ever known' and 'a wonderful man'.  I really don't know what the original poster is on about.

I'm afraid I have to agree with the original poster. When Brian and Freddie's mother were on TV last week to speak about the memorial in Feltham, Brian seemed more interested in talking about himself and his own achievements, than discussing Freddie. Everytime Freddie's mother tried to get a word in, Brian spoke over her and at one point he even said "Oh give it a rest you old bag."
Later on in the interview as Freddie's mother was just about to explain that she knew exactly what the song 'Bohemian Rhapsody was all about, Brian leaned over from his chair and slapped Freddie's mother in the face. He then kicked over a table and lay on the floor screaming "ME ME ME ME ME ME ME!"

fatty.

Classic Fatty. Years on, yet still a top notch act. :)

I actually though this was for real until I got to the "old bag" bit. Then I saw the poster's name and it all made sense. I laughed out loud, and I'm in the office, hehe :).

But that only results in barring those who want IQ tests to determine if someone should be allowed to post comments.

I think Roger must be the most popular member of the band.  I seldom see any critical comments about him.

Give Brian May a break.
