Tom Petty didn't do it.

Paul McCartney didn't do it

The Rolling Stones didn't do it

Prince didn't do it

Bruce didn't even do it.

But The Who made me realize that we need to get younger at the Superbowl Halftime show.  Good show, but...

I say this as a massive admirer of The Who, young and old ...  I see your point.

However, my feeling is that the halftime show can go to a younger act when a younger act earns it!

I actually forgot Pete Townshend got old. I saw that old bastard creeping on the stage and wondered who's grandpa got lost.

Glad he didn't dislocate his arm doing the windmill. =(

Still was a fantastic show.

Oh most definitely.  In fact, I'm having a hard time thinking up a top five list.  The Who were great.  Tom Petty was great, I really enjoyed the Stones, and Prince blew me away just like everyone else.  But the years are starting to show on these acts.

The Brittany / Aerosmith was just stupid.  So please, don't go there again SB committee!!!

Lady Gaga needs to do it, that's for sure.  But please don't bring up the guys from Yes because Steve Howe just scares me now.  If I close my eyes, I'm ok.

There should be some requirements to play the superbowl:

1.  Must have more than two albums (that people know of)
2.  If you're a guy and you're wearing eyeshadow you're out.  No matter how good you are.
3.  Must have an age appropriate crowd.  No teens screaming for Pete Townsend.  Something about that is wrong.
4.  If anyone in your band cannot fully stand on their own, a replacement player must be used.
5.  If you're over 50, no pelvic thrusts (Bruce)
6.  American Idol contestants are allowed only if we have the power to vote them off during their performance
7.  Must be an American Band.  This is American Football.  Bono and McCartney and Mick are just like the rest of the brits dogging our style of play.  Let them play the soccer arenas... and deal with the paycheck desparity later.
8.  Absolutely no turntables.
9.  If you suck, the losing coaching staff gets to take it out on you after the game... so there's pressure to play well.

Nothing screams American Football like Lady Gaga. That's like Strippers dancing to gospel.

The MJ show comes in at 2nd for me. I did not enjoy any other show (so far) more than the one by Prince. Simply awesome. I'm sure Queen + Freddie Mercury would have stolen the show forever if they had played.

For next year's they should try to get Black Sabbath, considering that the organisers are hell bent on proving that the old school rocks harder than anyone else.

Did what? Embarass themselves?
Seriously, the performance wasn't bad, but it wasn't that great either.
Search for performances of The Who from the 1970s on You Tube, and what they did at the Super Bowl doesn't even come close to being as good as they used to be.

...but hey, at least it wasn't another yawn fest with Tom Petty.

I GUESS THEY DIDN'T DO IT

HOW FUCKING DARE THEY

(shrug)  Christ o mighty.  Let's have a "Where Are They Now" in a few decades time and see how many of us are doing serviceable versions of the songs we were singing in our 20's and 30's ....
