Spain is definitely not going to win because super favorites haven't won a World Cup since Brazil in Chile 1962.

One of many local watering holes get big-time interest here in suburbian DC/Balto for the roundball.

Will make sure I go to my favorite tavern for the UK-USA first round match.  Really don't care who wins, just know that the place will be packed.

Brazil, Germany or France are my best bets to win it all.

germany and france have very average teams,i dont expect them to go far in the tournament at all.i'm expecting an african team to go far though, maybe the ivory coast but i'm off the opinion that Brazil,Spain and England will be 3 of the 4 semi-finalists and then its 'take your pick' from there.

ha ha!!!

Actually, I was saying that because as an American, I know my "home team" has no shot of winning the World Cup... EVER.

And while most of the time, you're right mooghead... check out the Freedom of Speech thread and how I SOLVED the problem of public campaign donations.  Everyonce in a while there's a flash, but I blame the DMT that Treasure Moment gave me.

Joxer - Germany did not have any better than "average" teams in the FIFA cup 2002 (2nd place), FIFA cup 2006 (3rd place) and Euro 2008 (2nd place). It needs a good tournament team to get far in the World Cup. England did not win anything after the World Cup 1966 although they have the biggest league along with Spain and Italy and have great teams which won numerous international cups etc. Maybe now they have a good tournament team with their Italian coach:-)

African teams have never won anything although there is always an expectation that an outsider will reach the semi finals. You forgot Italy and Argentina who are always candidates for the cup.

Portugal could be a good dark horse to win.

Germany does better when they are under the radar.
Brazil does better when their fanbase criticizes their lack of "jogo bonito".
France does better when they are bashed by the press.

I personally think that overhyped teams hold a huge burden on them.

I'm going for Australia, however once we are eliminated, I'll switch my support over to Argentina.

England vs USA 1:1 - the first big surprise. With such a goalkeeper England needs to score more goals if they want to be successful in this world cup.

Thre vuvuzelas are a pain, they kill the atmosphere in the stadium. Even the English fans were muted by this monotonous horrible noise. Let's hope that the FiFa does something after even the players complained that they are unable to communicate.

To watch Messi is pure joy. What an outstanding player, he is in his own league.
