Have been studying alot of swedish accents in my days... *nerd alert*
Not being native to the english language I have a question regarding the boys', Queen that is, accents.
Was listening to a radio interview on youtube just now and drowsed off into just listening to the way they speak/spoke rather than listening to what they said. Anyhow, did the four lads have the same accent or not? No possibilitie for me to tell, they sound very alike at times although I hear slight differences in their intonation and rythm.

Really trivial I know... but please do tell! :D

Well, it's a hell of a lot more interesting than those Greg-related threads anyway.

And no, they didn't speak the same way. John's accent's from the Leicester area, though IMO not as strong as Tom Meighan's, for instance; the doctor has changed several times his way of speaking, sometimes being almost like a BBC presenter, sometimes using a more relaxed Estuary (but never Cockney, as opposed to Roy Baker for instance) and in the 80's especially (while he lived in LA) sort of Americanising his accent a bit.

What's interesting about Rog is that I'd have never realised he's from Norfolk and raised in Cornwall as his accent sounds nothing like the ones there. I love his accent, it's very nice.

As for Fred... well, a lot's been said and a lot's been discussed. There are many factors making him sound the way he did: he definitely sounded a bit 'foreign' in the 70's, but that was more because he was 'camp' than featuring actual Middle-Eastern pronunciation per se. He seemed to mix a very glamorous Londoner English with his Indian upbringing and some quite unique mannerisms. I think he was more 'susceptible' to picking up other accents too: while in America, he sounded more Mid-Atlantic than the others (listen to early 80's interviews, for instance).

John hated HS. Fred's fave singer was not PR. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

It's funny 'cos I love the way Brian speaks but suffer each time listening to his interviews. He has low voice and sometimes "swallows" the words. Just not possible to understand.

 I wouldn't even touch those Greg-topics with a pair of pliers! :)

Thank you for your highly informative reply, as I understand there are several accents just in the London area (unlike Sweden where the biggest city is Stockholm, only 1 million ppl and no more than one accent although some slight variations). I too was very surprised that Rog was raised in Cornwall, have a friend from Cornwall and I would never have guessed on Rog's accent,  can't hear any similarities to my friend...

The one that (to me) stand's out from the crowd most is John, his rythm is really different to Brian's for an example although Brian sounds different from time to time just as you said. I too have problems hearing due to his ways of "swallowing" words.

I think Fred has an awesome accent, it sounds very posh although I don't know if that's just his own manners... ;)
I wondered if you could hear Freddies Indian background in his accent, obviously you can though I had problems to separate his dialectal influences. Thanks!
Funny how you can hear the expressions on his face whilst listening to an audio interview.
Am I right or am I the only one that can hear his habit of putting his upper lip over his teeth?

The one thing that is global about accents is that musical inclined persons has a way of changing their dialect
to their surroundings', maybe a form of social competence but still...

On which a concert, except the clip "Play the Game", Freddie first appeared with a mustache?

According to the Queen Live website, the first show of the Game tour was on 30 June 1980 at Vancouver BC Canada.  This could be the first time Freddie appeared with a moustache.

To the author of this thread, and you're not alone by any stretch, you are not "Loosing" your beat, you are "Losing" it.  Unless your beat is too tight and you are loosening it, or "loosing" it for for short.  In that case, carry on.

I'm aware of my typo in my nickname, I discovered it the same second I created my account. Sadly I can't change my nick so I've settled with this one.
As I wrote in another topic this is a very common mistake made by us swedes, and as someone else said also common with US people. It's the fonetics in choose, moose, loose that makes us confused by the spelling in lose.
So there you have it.

Spelling glitch or no, I still think it's a great nic.  Inspired by the spirit of a great lyric in a great song.  It's one of the names I noticed right away when I joined and thought was cool. :)

Thanks alot, that really warms my little heart!
It's my favourite phrase in Somebody To Love "Got no feel, I've got no rythm, I just keep "loosing" [/img]  my beat..."
Both lyrically and musically it's so mindblowingly awesome...

You're welcome!  Your previous pic was a nice one to look at too. (I'm sure Mr. LoosingMyBeat doesn't read this)[/img]
