I was at a record fair yesterday and I came across these photos. The dealer explained to me that he found them among a box of items he bought once, but he had no more details.

Clearly this is an early show and it's a pity the quality isn't a little better. Identifying the show would be very difficult, unless someone spots themselves in the audience, but could anyone take a stab at what tour this is?

Anyway here they are for everyone to enjoy.

I think it may be the Capitol Theater, Aberdeen.

You certainly may be right.  They only played that venue on the ANATO tour (on 12-14-75), and these pictures are clearly from that tour.

Are you basing this on the appearance of the venue, or something else?

The Capitol Theatre in Aberdeen was not a theatre - it was a cinema.

It was not one of those multiplex's as we know today - it was one of those1930's Grand Picture Palaces - an art nouvea cathedral to the moving image, complete with classic cinema organ and everything.
At the time these photographs were taken it was one of the largest indoor venues in Aberdeen.

It was one large auditorium, (stalls, balcony, circle, upper balcony etc) and when bands like Queen or Quo came to town, they would raise the large silver screen to re-create a small stage. I remember at the time a Francis Rossi quote when upon seeing it, he said something along the lines of "we couldn't fit the bloody drums in there..."

I am fairly sure it is Aberdeen, and with the pink cinema seats, the small cinema stage, the closeness of the audience to the band I would pretty much bet on it.

However; I've never been to the Caird Hall in Dundee, but I believe that was a classical theater hall and not a converted cinema. So I would bet the former rather than the latter.

Thanks for all the information. It was quite an odd find for a record fair in Birmingham, but I did get some bargins!

All I'm getting from that attachment is a bunch of random gobbledygook; letters and symbols.

Damn.

For anyone who's having problems grabbing the pictures from here, I have them on my website under 12-14-75.
