just listened to Liar via spotify (http://open.spotify.com/track/1ZJGA2mfNEmPJPpJSSc1Ex) and noticed someone (sounds like Brian) saying something right at the beginning of the song. never heard this before, and... a base for discussion; has anyone else, and what does he say?

not the best of threads, but hey, I'm bored :P

If you're referring to the version recorded July 25th, 1973, for Queen's second BBC session, then yes, I've heard it too. It's a quiet voice which comes in as the opening percussion starts. I'm not sure if is appears on every copy, but it appears on mine.

I'm hesitant to say it's Brian or anyone else related to Queen, since the source of this recording is unknown. It could be any of the following:

a) a stray bit of DJ vocal from the radio broadcast

b) some radio interference picked up by the machine making the recording (we get stray radio signals from time to time in the theatre if there's an unshielded ground wire somewhere in the set-up running into the console)

c) a left over bit of unrelated vocal from one of the generaions of copies made before it reached us, which somehow got mixed over the beginning.

d) an engineer in the studio present at the original recording

e) a band member muttering

Really, it's hard to tell what he's saying, or if it's even English, so unless it appears on the original master or a cleaner copy surfaces, we may never know.

hm, you're right! I now notice that it's a bug in spotify when comparing versions... only listened to the intro in the first place. the application replaced the original (streamed) version of liar with a copy of the bbc track located on my hard drive. :P weird....
it made my question a bit redundant.
ahwell, thanks for your reply!

thread made up out of boredom are always the best

and idk, i heard it but its unclear what he (who ever he is) actualy says :/

interesting tho

probably someone sayin "where me coffee?"

lol

but still, idk :/

i had the same problem with innuendo, i didnt know who said tho "one, two, three, four" at the begining, dosent sound like brian, definatly not roger, dont sound like freddie at all, so i think that was john, idk

but anyways, off innuendo for now, i think  it were probably eaither brian or freddie, im convinced its freddie getting his voice ready, idk
