Saw the Styx performance in B'more Friday night.  Of course, there's no DDY, but Lawrence, as always, did a great job on those lead vocals.

An absolute treat to see some of the tracks performed on stage for the first time.

And......., during the show, I could not help but think of how much I wish Brian and Roger would have toured, and performed, the above listed albums in their entirety, with a very good Freddie sound-alike frontman.  I couldn't help but think of how much I would have loved the original lineup doing it as well.

Paul did fit what they wanted to do at the time, and am so grateful to have seen them on stage a couple of times, Then again...it didn't fit in the long run.  I could listen to the Styx live versions of the current lineup forever, but I can't find myself listening to more than five minutes of 'The Cosmos Rocks' or ROTC when he sings.

I'm glad you had a great time, and in no way intend to step on your evening out but holy Jesus Christ I can't stand Lawrence Gowan. Now he may be absolutely fantastic with Styx. I actually have no idea because he made my ears bleed so badly in a 1980's Canada that I will never, never forgive him.  He forced (and I do mean forced, due to CanCon laws) the most horrid bleeping pap over the electromagnetic spectrum via the radio and Much Music that I'm pretty sure that rainbows actually used to have one more colour, but it disintegrated in some kind of horror and just fell off.  Because of Lawrence Gowan's terrible, inexcusable songs.

For those who don't know this is what Larry did before Styx ...

That guy's voice sucks.

'Sucks' is to Gowan's voice as 'Blows' is to Hurricane Katrina.  'Gowan' is what he used to call himself, which wasn't at all pretentious.

If Dennis were still in the band I'd be all over this tour.

Since he's not you couldn't pay me to see them.  JY's bitterness really turns me off.
Plus the fact that the guy can't sing for sh*t and can't write a decent song.  Every
night before going to bed JY should thank Dennis, because without Dennis JY would
never have had a career in music.

Before it's too late I'd like to see Dennis and Tommy record a cd together.  I like
their vocal harmonies.

Agree about your comments about JY...when you think about it...yeah mosyt of his contributions do suck...and he's just a standard-issue guitarist imo.

Interesting, i didn't know that JY was the most bitter towards DDY...your right...JY wouldn't have millions in his bank if it wasn't for DDY.

I diss JY for treating Dennis like he did (basically kicking the guy while he's down).

I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me-Freddie Mercury

I agree 90% on the previous comments.

Short story long:  DDY was supposed to be Pontius Pilate in JCSuperstar years ago.  We were looking forward to seeing him then, but he had to cancel due to his sad light-sensitivity illness.  We know of all the ensuing bitterness that followed.

A few years later, I saw Styx two times, had to adapt to LG's different vocals, and the dropping of so many of Dennis' songs (and hear JY do LVs on 'Lorelie'.....ouch, but he carried it off pretty well).   Cyclorama.......some decent and very good tracks, but totally avoid Lawrence's.

Three years ago, a more inclusive set list (Suite Madame Blue and a complete 'Half Penny/Two Penny/AD1958 finale) made for a damn good show.  We really enjoyed it.

This time around........yes, I still had to try and force my mind into some tricks during all of the Dennis tracks, but we were also there to see and hear songs not performed for decades (or at all).  And to see Chuck Panozza play bass for 20% of the show.  And go back in time for a night.

Saw Yes this summer, minus Jon Anderson.  It worked.  Same with Styx.

Four of my all-time top 30 LPs are by the 'Chicago' boys ('Equinox' and 'Paradise Theater' are the other two).  Don't get me started on 'Cornerstone' and 'Kilroy'.

Was just trying to get some discussion as to the Queen 'twin' albums and how enjoyable (or dreadful to some) that might have been in an alternate universe.

Tommy's the real guitarist in that band.  He brings good guitar playing, songs, and vocals to the band.

I wish JY was the one who had been fired from the band.  I could definitely live without his crappy
songs and crappy voice.  And don't forget the bitterness.
