STORMTROOPERS IN STILETTOS 7” SINGLE
RELEASED FOR NEW EXHIBITION AND NATIONAL RECORD STORE DAY

Queen release their incendiary limited edition Double-A sided 7” single ‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos’ on Sunday 27th February 2010, through Island Records.
Featuring two versions of tracks recorded in the early 70’s, ‘Keep Yourself Alive (Long Lost Retake)’ (from ‘Queen’) and ‘Stone Cold Crazy (2011 Remaster)’ (from ‘Sheer Heart Attack’), the single is released to coincide with the exhibition ‘Stormtroopers in Stilettos’ which runs at Old Truman Brewery on Brick Lane in London for two weeks from Friday 25th February 2010. The single will be available as part of National Record Store Day taking place on 16th April and is limited to just 1000 numbered copies on heavyweight vinyl.
Reminding us that Queen could rock hard with the best of them, the two tracks on the single are lightning strikes of adrenalized rhythm, furious guitars and fearsome high wire vocals. Capable of breathtaking rock’n’roll, early Queen has inspired some of the best heavy rock of subsequent decades.
‘Keep Yourself Alive’ was the first single Queen ever released back in 1973 and is now poignantly released on their 40th Anniversary. This is the only Queen single that ever failed to chart in the UK mainly because Radio One rejected it claiming it took long to get going! This new version is a long-lost retake of the track recorded in 1975 for a USA single that ended up not being released at the time. The original version is taken from Queen’s debut album, Dave Grohl’s favourite album of all time.
Q recently described ‘Stone Cold Crazy’ as “thrash metal before the term was invented”, and the track has been covered by Josh Homme and Metallica amongst others. This was the one of the first tracks that Queen ever played live and the version on the single is a brand new 2011 remaster.
Both tracks can be heard at http://soundcloud.com/purplepr

It's 7" vinyl because of the Record Store Day connection.
Although a couple of years ago in 2009 Hollywood Records in the USA issued 'Queen's First EP' on CD, this new release for the UK is vinyl only.

I don't want to sound too negative, but just how credible is this announcement?

You are a semi-official spokesperson (at best), this isn't the official website, and there's no mention of this release on QOL. I know this is how Queen Productions has been operating for years now, but is it too much to ask for a professional attitude from the people involved?

This would be great if I knew where to bloody well buy one from!
They keep announcing this "Record Store Day", but no bugger ever tells you where the flaming record shops are!

I'm trying to undestand your (QP's) logic here, but I'm struggling a bit.
There's a new single, but it's only mentioned on the website of the exhibition bearing the same name, and an unofficial website of the band.

So it's really just an advertisement of the exhibition, and there's no real interest in the Record Store Day campaign?

It says on the SIS website press release that it is available as a download too - God knows how that, and having a website where you can listen to it in advance, helps record stores?!?

Awesome, shame that this will probably end up being bought in huge quantities by people who will end up selling it for extraordinary amounts on eBay. I'd love to buy a copy, but won't be in Londen :(

these record-store-day vinyls are often fake limited editions. there was an artikel about this in the record collector. "limited"items were still available weeks after rsd. it is just a trick to sell large quantities. i would recommend to ask the record dealer in your shop if he can reserve one for you in advance.
aside from that i must tell you this: FUCK CD - VINYL RULES!!!!

I listened to both tracks on PurplePR and they both sound much better than I remember them. A pity they'll be released on vinyl ONLY

See my post above Pittrek - the press release says download too! (which will unfortunately mean compression though.)

I don't see how a download, as opposed to a physical CD, helps an independent record store more?!?

Is anyone really bothered at all about this?

More material that we've already got countless times already.......

The term limited refers to the amount pressed, not how long it is available for.  If they can't sell all 1000 copies on RSD, then obviously they're still going to be available after the event.  No trick involved!

But I agree with your closing sentiment - VINYL RULES!!!

Thorsten, if you manage to get a hold of one (or TWO) extra copies, please let me know. I would very much like to have one.

When is this coming out? During the exposition in February or on Record Store Day in April?

For the Record Store 2009 CD single for Queen's First EP I ordered it online. I searched in those record stores' Website and found one that would take my credit card and mail it to me.

to thistleboy:
yes, i know what they mean with limited editions, but there is a readers letter in record collectors magazin july 2010. it is too long to cite it here completely but it is about very limited records (500 copies) of highly collectable bands, that were available weeks after RSD from the websites of the bands and on the net. "some weeks after the event, i am still able to buy various limited edition copies of RSD record releases on various websites...."and" you can´t tell me that those labels haven´t sold the highly sought after limited quantities mentioned. someone can´t be telling the truth here".
might be different with the queen release but after being a queenzoner for many years i would not give a shit on anything QP says. we´ll see what happens.

to wiley:
hey, we don´t have a recordstore day in berlin (as far as i know) and i won´t go to UK for this. i thought about going at one point but for above mentioned reasons i won´t. maybe you should ask another fellow queenzoner from UK (and get one for me aswell)
