He has to... imagine what would happen if he said 'I'm tired of hearing questions about that old fag!'.

John hated HS. Fred's fave singer was not PR. Roger didn't compose 'Innuendo.' Witness testimonies are often inaccurate. Scotland's not in England. 'Bo Rhap' hasn't got 180 voices.

"Honestly, quit talking to me about that Farsi prat.  He was a freeloader and smelled like cheese."

See?  He'd never get away with it.

He would never say that, simply because it's not true.

It's very obvious that all 3 remaining Queen-members think and speak highly of Freddie and that  there's always such a huge amount of GENUINE respect which I think is wonderful.

We only know the star and the musician but to them he was a businesspartner and friend. They achieved so much and went through so much together. I think it's very hard to imagine how those guys must feel...

Let's not forget they were just 4 young guys who wanted to make music together (and be successful). Now that band they created is a top 10 band of all time (I think that is no axaggeration). It must be very hard to be in their shoes. I think there are far too many people who are WAY too harsh towards people like Brian and Roger.

A personal thought:
I don't know what it's like to loose a band mate because i'm not a musician. Both Brian and Roger have said that freddie's death felt like losing a brother. I don't have a brother but I do have 2 sisters so I can relate to that and I can guaruantee you this: if one of my sisters would die I think my feelings would be the same as the ones expressed by Brian in that interview... There's such a strong bond... I for one would think about my sisters EVERY single day too. And - even though I know they have less beautiful sides to them (very few actually:-) - I would always speak highly of them. Unconditional love that is...

he's currently Brian's cash-cow.....he'd be a twat to insult him...Freddie's been gone almost as long as queen existed
i think Brian is probably over it....unless the constant flood of royalties hitting the bank account has reduced to a trickle...in which case....what odds on "we will rock you 2" the musical?

I'm not saying Brian doesn't genuinely miss Freddie. I can't know that, as I'm not Brian, I don't know him personally, and I can't read minds (including his). I'm saying that even if he did not think so highly of Fred, he still would speak highly of him as he 'has' to.

Some people are way too defensive about Brian and Roger.

That brings me to the question why especially you are always so negative and somehow bitter about Brian May.
You have created a very impressive website about Queen. But whenever I read your comments about Brian May I wonder what kind of problem you have with him.
Are you disappointed, that he never got in contact with you about your website?

I think John misses him more than Brian and Roger together.

So, Brian says that ''Freddie is in my thoughts every day'' or words to that effect.  I think he actually said something more like ''there isn't a day that I don't have a thought about Freddie'' actually but anyway I guess it doesn't make too much difference.

This does NOT ACTUALLY tell us ANYTHING AT ALL about how Brian feels about Freddie, as you seem to be assuming it does.

The reality is that Brian is BOUND to think about Freddie every day - he must have to do Queen related things, even if it is just cashing his gigantic royalties cheque, every day.  It doesn't automatically mean that Brian loves Freddie and weeps over photos of him every day.

Also, as others have rightly said, Brian would have to be an absolute idiot (which he is not) to say anything other than ''I love Freddie'' in interviews.  If he said that he thinks Freddie was an annoying, smelly poof who got more praise than he deserved then how would the Queen fan community (which is very much a Freddie fan community, let's not forget) react to that?

Starting a thread about this does suggest that you are really rather naive when it comes to the band.

Why shouldn't Brian have fond memories about Freddie? They worked together for 20 years and he watched him dying. Of course there must have been fights and disagreements and times when they got on each others' nerves big time but if someone dies the bad memories fade away and the good ones remain, that is the human nature. If someone dies and you go every step with him you will be at peace with that person by the time he actually dies. I do not know why people must be so harsh on Brian May - like they never lost someone themselves! Also, the band acted like real friends when Freddie became ill - they worked at his pace and allowed him to make his music until the very end. That was certainly not easy for them.

I also do not understand why people are so annoyed about the surviving Queen members making money from their catalogue. After all, they did not steal the money and they did not exploit other people to make it: they are so rich because so many people are willing to pay for their music - many people on this board included ;-) Yes, they could release something we have not yet been able to buy but we are all waiting for something worth our money. If they released something new from the archives almost nobody here would discuss money.

I do not want any google ads here.

No one is saying that Brian DOESN'T have fond memories of Freddie.

All we are pointing out is that Brian's comments about thinking of Freddie every day don't really actually mean all that much in terms of inside knowledge of Brian's feelings for Freddie.  Simply because what else is Brian going to say in an interview in their 40th anniversary year with product to push?

I haven't got any problem with Brian. I think he's a marvellous musician, a very good scientist and he's defending a great cause. Now, I don't see him (or anybody else) as a god, which is what a lot of fans and I disagree with. Saying that Roger's got a way better memory (which he does) is not the same as hating Brian. Saying that the whole 'Paul was Freddie's idol' thing was, at the very least, a huge overstatement, is not the same as hating Brian.

And since you mention my website, I'll cite some bits:

Save Me: 'A wonderful song by Brian that unfortunately sold only half a million copies.'

Leaving Home: 'A wonderful and underrated ballad written by Brian.'

Good Company: 'A masterpiece from beginning to end... Interesting form where almost all sections (intro, verse, chorus, solos) are built upon basically the same harmonic progression. Further examples of that in Brian's songs are I
Want It All and The Show Must Go On.'

'39: 'Dr May added some very interesting layers of electric guitars as  well as a second acoustic doubling the first one. Although the live renditions sound great, the magic of the studio version  is just phenomenal. Sometimes more is more.'

Teo Torriatte: 'A marvellous ballad by Brian showing the infinite love (which was and still is completely requited, fortunately) he's got for Japan, its people, its culture, its music and the idea of  a better world with peace and understanding.'

Are those the statements from a person who's resentful and bitter towards Brian? No, they're not. Just because I don't think he's perfect (nobody is), it doesn't mean I hate him. Again, some people are way too defensive about him, and pick up any small bit of harmless criticism they find in order to turn it into an accusation of animosity or bitterness.

Brian wrote some of Queen's biggest hits and about 40% of theit total catalogue.

He deserves those royalties.

Brian seems over-scheduled to me.  It may just be possible that he is having way too many thoughts lately.

Well, good on him!  He knows he's only got so many years left, so he's living as full a life as he possibly can.  And if he didn't play another note I wouldn't blame him.. he's got plenty of other things he wants to do now.
