I've always believed and continue to believe that we are not the only form of "Life" in the universe.  And I also believe that we have been visited by other life forms from somewhere else in the universe.  How many of you here believe in "aliens" or do not believe in "aliens"?  Watch the video below about UFO sightings, its very interesting.

There's a huge chance there is life out there, but I don't think they'll ever come our way because if they would have wanted to do that they would have done that long ago. And I agree with Stephen Hawking that we should avoid contact with them.

The ones that have been experimenting on me since 1972 told me humankind should avoid contact with Stephen Hawking. So I think Hawking's just running on pure spite there.

I believe they have made contact with humans for thousands of years.  I would liek to know that if they have, what they think of us.

@Greatfulfan- Can you ask them if ET got home safely??

OK, more seriously now. :) I don't have an opinion one way or the other really.   The vastness of the universe would seem to make the idea of us being alone an unlikely one, but who knows how sound that logic really is.   That same vastness and the laws of physics may mean we do indeed share the universe but are destined to forever remain unaware of each other.  Brian May believes we are alone, which I thought an interesting position for an astrophysicist.   I was intrigued when I learned that, and wondered how much of it was a spiritual opinion, and how much was scientific and how much his own psychology or belief system.  It's probably the question I'd ask him if I only had one.

The odds against there being extraterrestrial life are astronomical. It is even unlikely that extraterrestrial (microbial) life does not exist in our own solar system. Statistics alone make extraterrestrial life a practical certainty.

As to UFOs, I believe they exist, but I do not believe they are of extraterrestrial origin. Most sightings turn out to be IFOs, but those that remain unidentified can safely be assumed to be military objects. In fact, many sightings from earlier decades have been revealed to have been just that when the technology in question became declassified (e.g. the Stealth Bomber, drone aircraft and even, in the '50s, the X-1 rocket-plane).

Extra-terrestrial life form - i think does exist.
Intelligent extra-terrestrial life form - no idea.

And one question from my side - how many believe in any of the major religions and still belive in ET life?

It's a question that really shows the shortcomings in the human way of thinking about the universe.

We ARE the very kind of life that we are debating the possible existence of.  We're so far up our own arses thinking "Can life exist in the universe?" when we are the answer to that question.  Yes, it can happen!  That life can be very resilient and survive in places that we'd ordinarily write off.  With the size of the universe, and the variety of conditions out there (including ones we probably haven't even thought up yet) there is absolutely no one alive in the world that has cause or evidence to say that life does not exist in other parts of the universe.

Practically speaking, it's a topic that's literally less grounded in fact than a fantasy baseball draught.  We know nothing about what life could exist out there, beyond that which has evolved on our own doorstep.  It's fun to speculate, of course, but no conclusions can be made beyond the obvious - yes, life exists in the universe.  Let's just hope they don't read our Twitter.

Now, extra-terrestrials visiting Earth is an almost completely different topic.  And it's all bullshit.  Read any UFO story long enough, and it usually self destructs into something that was obviously written after a particularly bad episode of sleep paralysis.  Alien stories are all hooey - good for a laugh, though!

The arguement I always think is bullshit is that because we have not gotten any signs from space when it comes to signals or sound wavelengths that there is no life outside our planet.

My theory of extraterrestial life forms visiting out planet is that I think we have been visited and will continue to do so.  I just hope they are not as bad as us when it comes to being a life race. But just like Stephen Hawkins said, hopefully we dont get extinct by them just like we have wipped out many life forms here on earth.

Wouldnt it be cool, to me at least, to see how their "planet(s)" look like and how they look and act.

"The arguement I always think is bullshit is that because we have not gotten any signs from space when it comes to signals or sound wavelengths that there is no life outside our planet."

Exactly!  This is what I hate the most about the Fermi Paradox - it's bullshit, basically.  Up until very recently in human history, we were not broadcasting our presence here to the cosmos; we didn't have the technology, but in actual fact we were just as 'intelligent' - possibly more so, when you consider how technology has allowed modern society to fall asleep at the wheel.  Imagine all of the intelligent life that could be out there, that simply isn't using radio waves to communicate with themselves?  There is no paradox.  It's only a paradox if you buy into an insane amount of grossly human-centric assumptions that limit the discussion enormously.

People also tend to overestimate the signal strength of what we're sending out into space.  If you look at the Milky Way as a whole, and then highlight the region that most of our average radio chatter is actually reaching - it's very, very small in the grand scheme of things.  If aliens were using similar technology, they'd come up against similar drawbacks, so it's not all that surprising that we aren't picking up KYFU from Betelgeuse.

I can't even stoop low enough to comment on Hawking's comments on how aliens might be behaving in the galaxy.  Coming from a guy with an intellect like his, it's just depressing - sounds like he's in the process of writing a B-movie.

Yes, some of the Qzoners are proof that life outside earth exists lol

Seriously though, I believe that there is other life outside this planet, and I think that we will meet, eventually.
