Hi!

I want to share with you this info wich i found in Youtube... is from a guy who aparently was on camera during the gig:
---------
"The concert was shot by Zoom Television and recorded on 2" reel tape.
Betamax tape was around but was not used in professionally. Betacam
wasn't introduced until 1982. The cameras were Philips LDK 3's The
concert was only recorded as an afterthought. Cameras were to provide
pictures for the screen? above stage which was new then. Brian mentions
'We will get as close as we can' The projector was called an Eiderphor
I was a cameraman stage right and I'm glad you are enjoying the concert."
-----------
"I was on camera at this concert. It was one of the first concerts to
have a large screen above the stage and we were supplying the feed. (
Zoom Television ) The middle section was played off tape to the screen
while the band rushed off stage and changed. If you listen carefully as
the tape starts you can hear it 'wow' This is actually how it happened
on the night. The replay was off? U matic tape. The original recording
was made on? 2" tape."
---------
I think It´s intresting to know that the original recording was made on 2" tape (like -aparently- rainbow nov 1974)
As he´s talking about the first night i will ask him about the second night ...

Here´s a photo of a philips LDK 3´s camera:

Cheers!

Been trying to find info on Zoom Television Ltd for years, but nothing available that I can see.

Can you find out if each camera was recording onto 2" tape, or if it was just the feed that was recorded?

I think it's more interesting to know that it was filmed for a large screen for the audience.  I never knew this and will explain the constant close ups and lack of mid shots and audience shots which i have always criticized it for.

We've actually known that for years !

The same thing goes for Houston.  But as we saw in the new documentary, there are a ton of angles with the Bob Harris footage in the mix too.

This is cool stuff. Thank you for that. Zeppelin did the same thing at Earls Court in 1975.

Earl's Court was an AMAZING concert in terms of performance by all members of the band and Freddie's interaction with the audience, but the only complaint I have is that I wish that it had been shot from a wider variety of angles...there are soooo many songs where the camera man focuses on just one band member for almost a minute (or sometimes even several minutes) at a time! But I guess as far as 70's concerts go, Earl's Court was pretty good quality...soI guess I really can't complain too much, lol.

That's much better than the DoRo twins or the Wembley editing where the camera never stays on anything for longer than half a second.

The fan pic of the Zoom TV camers mentioned earlier was mine. Bob (Sir G) had it on his site but I requested he remove it and others because people were stealing them for there own purposes.

I have also sent an email to the cameraman because I think I have a pic of him!!!

He mentions just one screen but I am certain that I remember two, one on each side of the stage.

Anyone who saw shows at Earls Court in the 70s would be able to answer that question.

If you're really curious, you could head to a Led Zeppelin forum.  They played 5 nights there, and surely plenty of people have good recollections or knowledge of the shows.  It's unlikely they would have done a different setup for Queen a couple years later.
