Many people asked why such a great song hasn't been released on The Miracle album?

The main thing everyone should know is that this song was recorded ONLY for convention. So this is a joky song which initially shouldn't be released.

And there's NO stand-alone version without convention message. The studio version we know is just the edit of whole thing.

Still, there might be a better quality version available. Love the duet between Rog and Fred.

Yes, the better quality vesrion exists. But I just want to say that both known versions are just two different edits of one recording, and there's no true stand-alone version. And no demo for the album was recorded.

Maybe the song is only for fun and the version wich we know is the only take in existence... but the version wich is in "Spaced out" (bootleg) has a very reasonable quality (great quality, i must say) and hasn´t any convention message... on fact isn´t a convention recording.

I don't think it's a great song at all.  In fact, I think it sounds like a rabble in a pub lol

I wish Rog had used real drums.

It is a convention recording, but for some reason bootleggers edited the very message out. You can clearly hear sounds like the clink of glasses on "stand-alone" version, which indicates that this is the track for convention.

Actually, three different versions are known.
1. Original. The complete studio tape with message
2. Convention version (audience recording) with slightly different mix (different outro and some parts of message edited out, presumably some parts of the song are out of mix too, but it can be just a recorder's mistake).
3. Bootleg version. This is just an edit of complete recording.

Don't forget that all the conventionrecordings are mostly alternative versions or outtakes from the various (rare) Queen songs. QP isn't so stupid to take the final versions of songs to the conventions and let them being taped.

Don't forget that this convention was in 1988.

Has the original version ever been shared? The edited version is rather common.

No, it hasn't, but it's available on fan club 25 Years of Convention Messages DVD, so everyone can buy it.

Hi! Well, it has been shared at some point, as I own it, like, forever. I can't even remember when I got it, but it I think it is safe to say that it was more than 10 years ago.

By the way, I think it is funny, interesting for its roughness, but, as a whole, too much an initial idea to be taken anywhere near what could be called a "Queen song". It is what is, kinda interesting, but if you want to compare it to a proper song, it falls in the crappy category.

Cheers,

Ogre-

This kind of song or Fan Club message could have been a MIH album B-side perfectly, with some extra keys, guitars, bass and drums added and obviously extra vocals from Brian and Roger may have become this track as a complete Queen song. Is just my opinion, the basic track sound great!.

Just a quick question, Is this only a Freddie and Roger recording?, i mean, Were Brian and John on the session?

Of course they were. And Brian played guitar solo.

And as I said, this song initially should never be released, because this is just a little 'gift' to the fans who came to 1988 convention. There's only one verse repeated three times, even if track would be remixed and re-worked (all the message deleted & other slight re-work), it wouldn't ever be a 'proper' song. To be honest, this is rather a joke than the song. Just a bluesy jam, no less, no more.

I don't think, that's a strong argument. "Have A Nice Day" was a convention song for fans too and it was released too, so why not "Dog With A Bone"?

Have a Nice Day was released only on on Freddie's box set.

If Queen Anthology box set will ever be released, of course Dog with a Bone will be included.
