ROCK gods Queen are reforming again and I can reveal they’re headlining Sonisphere festival this summer. Freddie Mercury’s place will be taken by Adam Lambert, the American Idol winner. He wowed fans by singing with original members Brian May and Roger Taylor at MTV’s EMAs in Belfast last November. Adam told me he can’t wait to sing with guitarist Brian, 64, and drummer Roger, 62. The flamboyant 30-year-old revealed: “The intention is to pay tribute to Freddie and the band by singing some f*****g great songs. It’s to keep the music alive for the fans and give it an energy that Freddie would have been proud of.” Sonisphere’s line-up, which also includes metal veterans Faith No More, tours Europe before hitting Knebworth on July 6-8, scene of Queen’s final gig with Freddie in 1986. Adam enthused: “After the EMAs, I heard faint little slithers of a backlash from people saying: ‘You can’t replace Freddie Mercury.’ But I already knew that. “There’s no intention in my mind of replacing Freddie. That’s impossible. “The way I’m choosing to view it is that it’s a great honour and one I’m in no way going to shirk.” Adam first met his new band- mates when they played We Are The Champions at American Idol’s final in 2009. Adam recalled: “Straight away I thought: ‘These guys are so f*****g rad.’ They’re a class act, so sweet and paternal and on a musical level really open to great new experiences.” The trio haven’t discussed making an album but Adam confessed: “It’d be cool to record with Brian and Roger. “Being asked to front Queen is the best thing that can possibly happen.” Freddie died in 1991 but Queen reformed for an album and tour with Free singer Paul Rodgers, 62, in 2005. As well as his Queen duties, Adam releases stunning discotastic second album Trespassing on March 19. He grinned: “I learned so much from doing my first album. “Trespassing is much more of an album, not just a collection of would-be singles like my first record."

Oh no. Queen is going to be laughed at now. Even doing one concert with a reality show contestant is so wrong. You think Led Zep., Pink Floyd or AC/DC would go down to the level of getting a reality show contestant to sing with them? Here's hoping Jim Beach talks some sense into Brian & Roger.

Funny. I remember defending Brian & Roger's decision over and over to play with Paul Rodgers. Now people would rather have Paul Rodgers back. Whether we like this or not there will a huge crowd.

Unless they tour with Mr Methane, I don't see what they would do to make us appreciate Lampbert.

I'm always open for new things from Brian/Roger, but I don't think this Queen + Lambert thing is going to work. Lambert didn't do a great job on WATC from American Idol, and the EMAs weren't exactly his finest hour. Maybe the third time is the charm? No worries, I still have Montreal, Hammersmith, Milton Keynes, Live Aid, Wembley, and Budapest to keep me company! I wish Brian/Roger/Lambert the best, though! I always knew I was a star And now, the rest of the world seems to agree with me-Freddie Mercury
